- Cervical Spondylosis Mimicking Meningitis in a Patient With High BMI: A Case Report. [Case Reports]Cureus. 2026 Apr; 18(4):e106273.C
- This report describes the case of a 58-year-old female patient with a history of hypertension, dyslipidemia, and childhood asthma, who presented with neck stiffness, headache, and mild fever, raising concern for meningitis. Despite her high BMI and reluctance to undergo a lumbar puncture, she was initially treated with intravenous aciclovir and ceftriaxone while microbiological tests, including p…

- A 67-year-old man with metastatic carcinoma ex pleomorphic adenoma of the parotid gland: case report and review of the literature. [Case Reports]J Surg Case Rep. 2026 Apr; 2026(4):rjag283.JS
- Carcinoma ex pleomorphic adenoma (Ca ex PA) is an uncommon but highly aggressive malignancy arising from long-standing pleomorphic adenoma. Malignant transformation typically presents with rapid enlargement, pain, and facial nerve involvement. Metastatic spread is exceptionally rare. We describe a 67-year-old man with a decades-long right parotid mass that underwent malignant change after prior s…

- Flexible Intramedullary Nails for Stabilization of Transverse Femoral Fractures in Cats: Ex Vivo Biomechanical Characterization. [Journal Article]Animals (Basel). 2026 Apr 10; 16(8).A
- Flexible intramedullary nails (FINs) are commonly used in children and adolescents to treat long bone fractures, but few studies exist in animals. This study aimed to evaluate the biomechanical performance of FINS for the stabilization of transverse femoral fractures in cats. Fifteen bones were kept intact, while in another 15 bones, a mid-diaphyseal transverse fracture was induced and stabilized…

- Assessing PHILOS plate as an alternative fixation method for pediatric femoral neck fractures: a biomechanical comparison with cannulated screws. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: The adult PHILOS plate with 3.5-mm locking screws demonstrated inferior biomechanical stability compared with three 6.5-mm cannulated screws in this synthetic composite femur model.

- The impact of previous brucellosis treatment on the clinical course of neurobrucellosis: a multicentre retrospective study. [Journal Article]BMC Infect Dis. 2026 Apr 30. [Online ahead of print]BI
- CONCLUSIONS: To our knowledge, this is the first study to evaluate the impact of prior brucellosis treatment on the clinical presentation of neurobrucellosis. Prior brucellosis treatment history may be associated with fewer systemic inflammatory findings, such as fever and neck stiffness, and more frequent visual disturbance at presentation. These findings suggest a potentially modified clinical presentation in previously treated patients. However, given the retrospective design, inter-centre heterogeneity, and the multiple comparisons performed, these findings should be interpreted cautiously. Prospective studies are needed to confirm these observations.

- A case report of tetanus complicated by multiple cerebral infarcts and iliopsoas hematoma. [Case Reports]J Infect Chemother. 2026 Apr 28; 32(6):102976. [Online ahead of print]JI
- Severe generalized tetanus causes autonomic dysfunction with hemodynamic instability. While thromboembolic and hemorrhagic complications are recognized, cerebral infarcts secondary to tetanus-related dysautonomia have not been documented. A previously healthy 79-year-old unvaccinated woman presented with trismus and neck stiffness and was diagnosed with severe generalized tetanus. She received hu…

- Vocal Fold Vibratory Kinematics and Acoustic Correlates in Pressed and Breathy Phonation. [Journal Article]J Speech Lang Hear Res. 2026 Apr 30; :1-20. [Online ahead of print]JS
- CONCLUSIONS: Vibratory patterns in pressed phonation were suggestive of increased vocal fold contact stress, as lower ClQ and higher MADRn values suggest more abrupt, faster glottal closure. CPP and H1-H2 can reflect underlying glottal physiology, but their predictive value depends on phonation type in most cases. However, findings suggest that ClQ could be a robust physiological parameter with stable acoustic correlates regardless of phonation type.

- Comparative efficacy of repetitive peripheral magnetic stimulation and transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation in upper trapezius myofascial pain syndrome. [Randomized Controlled Trial]Turk J Med Sci. 2026; 56(2):439-453.TJ
- CONCLUSIONS: The findings may suggest that rPMS may be a promising noninvasive modality for the management of MPS. It may be used to reduce pain and improve functional outcomes in patients with MPS. Elastography findings may indicate that neurophysiological mechanisms contribute substantially to pain and dysfunction; however, mechanical stiffness cannot be excluded as a contributing factor. Longer follow-up studies are needed to determine the effectiveness of rPMS treatment protocols.

- Do peritoneal dialysis patients with increased vascular stiffness measured by pulse wave velocity have reduced bone mineral density measured with dual energy X-ray absorptiometry. [Journal Article]Kidney Blood Press Res. 2026 Apr 29; :1-18. [Online ahead of print]KB
- Introduction Vascular stiffness and osteoporosis are independently associated with increased cardiovascular morbidity. We investigated aortic pulse wave velocity (aoPWV), a measure of vascular stiffness, and bone mineral density (BMD) in peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients. Methods AaPWV was measured in patients who had dual energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) scans. Results The mean aoPWV was 10.0 ±…

- Secondary Intracranial Hypertension Mimicking Meningitis in an Immunosuppressed Patient With Systemic Lupus Erythematosus. [Case Reports]Cureus. 2026 Mar; 18(3):e105996.C
- Intracranial hypertension can mimic acute meningitis, especially in immunosuppressed patients presenting with fever and meningism, often prompting urgent empirical treatment. Distinguishing infectious from non-infectious causes is crucial to avoid unnecessary antimicrobials and delayed diagnosis. We report a 20-year-old woman with systemic lupus erythematosus on rituximab and a recent corticoster…

- Personalized 3D-Printed Hybrid PDMS and PEEK Implants for Revisional Orbitomaxillary Reconstruction: A Translational Case-Based Technical Note. [Journal Article]J Funct Biomater. 2026 Apr 18; 17(4).JF
- The reconstruction of complex orbitomaxillary defects requires biomaterials that can simultaneously provide structural stability, biocompatibility, and accurate restoration of facial volume and contour. While rigid polymers such as polyetheretherketone (PEEK) offer reliable mechanical support, they do not adequately replicate the viscoelastic behavior of soft tissues. This report presents a trans…

- Stiffness-related stress granules promote the metastasis of early-stage oral squamous cell carcinoma via anoikis resistance. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: The stiffness-related SGs may protect the disseminated cancer cells from anoikis resistance by harboring the set of specific mRNAs. Matrix stiffness promotes the formation of SGs in OSCC, getting prepared for metastasis in the early stage.
