- Enhancing amharic news classification through ontology-based feature fusion and logistic regression. [Journal Article]Sci Rep. 2026 May 20. [Online ahead of print]SR
- Amharic, a major Semitic language of Ethiopia, remains underrepresented in natural language processing research due to limited linguistic resources. This study addresses the challenge of accurate text classification for low-resource languages by proposing a hybrid framework that integrates a semantically structured Amharic News Ontology (ANO) with traditional TF-IDF features. The ANO was systemat…

- Research trends and knowledge mapping of transcranial direct current stimulation in depression: a bibliometric study based on web of science, Scopus, and PubMed (2000-2025). [Systematic Review]Front Psychiatry. 2026; 17:1805441.FP
- CONCLUSIONS: tDCS research in depression is entering a multidimensional and interdisciplinary phase, with increasing emphasis on network-level mechanisms and precision intervention. Functional connectivity is emerging as a potential biomarker for patient stratification and outcome prediction. Further progress depends on multicenter standardization, reproducible analytic pipelines, and high-quality comparative effectiveness research.

- Spine Injuries in the NBA: Return to Play Expectations After a Seasonal Injury. [Review]Orthop J Sports Med. 2026 May; 14(5):23259671261440537.OJ
- CONCLUSIONS: Our study showed that spine injuries in NBA players are predominantly managed nonoperatively with rapid RTP. Lumbar injuries far exceed cervical injuries, likely reflecting sport-specific biomechanical demands. The substantial variability in recovery times emphasizes the importance of individualized treatment approaches for elite athletes. Surgical cases are predominantly related to disc pathology. These findings provide valuable baseline data for clinicians managing spine injuries in professional basketball players.

- The Open Versus Closed Access Publication Advantage in Orthopaedic Surgery. [Journal Article]J Am Acad Orthop Surg. 2026 May 13. [Online ahead of print]JA
- CONCLUSIONS: Contrary to our initial hypothesis, open access articles had higher attention metrics and citation numbers when compared with closed access publications. These findings suggest that open access publishing not only enhances visibility and engagement but also may increase academic impact across multiple orthopaedic subspecialties.

- State media control influences large language models. [Journal Article]
- Millions of people around the world query large language models (LLMs) for information. Although several studies have compellingly documented the persuasive potential of these models1-10, there is limited evidence of who or what influences the models themselves, leading to a flurry of concerns about which companies and governments build and regulate the models. Here we show through six studies th…

- Proteomic Analysis of COVID-19 Infection. [Journal Article]
- There are things that I remember that seemed innocuous at the time but ended up being major events. As a young boy growing up in Canada, I remember listening to a radio broadcast about a young man who was planning to run across the country to raise money for cancer research. I recollect obscure details such as him filling a bottle with water taken from the Atlantic Ocean. The broadcast received l…

- Revision of the Simulium (Simulium) multistriatum species-group (Diptera: Simuliidae) in Sumatra, Indonesia: Descriptions of three new species and a redescription of the male and pupa of S. (S.) fenestratum Edwards. [Journal Article]Trop Biomed. 2026 Mar 01; 43(1):44-59.TB
- Adults and pupae of black flies assigned to the Simulium (Simulium) multistriatum species-group collected from Sumatra, Indonesia in 1992 and 1994 were reexamined. As a result, three undescribed species were found besides S. (S.) fenestratum Edwards, the only species in this species-group so far described from Sumatra. These undescribed species are described as new: S. (S.) mutaralamense sp. nov.…

- An inductive learning intervention to improve news veracity discernment. [Journal Article]J Exp Psychol Appl. 2026 May 11. [Online ahead of print]JE
- Across three preregistered experiments (total N = 1,135), we tested whether an inductive learning (IL) intervention improved participants' news veracity discernment (i.e., ability to distinguish between true and false news). IL involves learning categories by observing or classifying exemplars. Therefore, in this research, IL involved observing true and false news headlines and classifying them a…

- THE ROLE OF 3D MODELING IN THE SURGICAL MANAGEMENT OF HIATAL HERNIAS: A LITERATURE REVIEW. [Systematic Review]Georgian Med News. 2026 Mar; (372):183-194.GM
- CONCLUSIONS: The integration of 3D modeling technologies into routine clinical practice enables comprehensive visualization of anatomical structures, precise measurement of the pathological lesion, and determination of its spatial relationship with adjacent organs and vascular structures. This facilitates accurate planning of the extent and strategy of surgical intervention, minimizes the risk of intraoperative complications, and improves the overall effectiveness of surgical treatment.
- TREATMENT OF A PATIENT WITH SEVERE HIGH-VOLTAGE ELECTRICAL INJURY: A CLINICAL CASE. [Case Reports]Georgian Med News. 2026 Mar; (372):112-117.GM
- A 32-year-old patient sustained a high-voltage electrical injury while touching live parts of railway equipment. Examination revealed electrical burns of mixed depth covering a total area of 42%, 25% of which were deep grade IIIB burns. The affected area included the face, neck, torso, and right extremities. The Frank burn index was 92 units, consistent with an extremely severe burn injury. Labor…
- The Weight of Breaking Bad News. [Journal Article]J Cancer Educ. 2026 May 09. [Online ahead of print]JC
- Delivering bad news is a core competency in oncology and a central focus of medical education, often taught through structured frameworks such as the SPIKES protocol. While these approaches emphasize clarity, empathy, and patient-centered communication, they insufficiently address the cumulative emotional burden experienced by clinicians who repeatedly both deliver and receive life-altering infor…

- Topical Antibiotic Monotherapy Only Provides Mild Benefit for Patients with Acne Vulgaris: A Systematic Review and Network Meta-analysis. [Systematic Review]
- CONCLUSIONS: Current evidence indicates that topical antibiotic monotherapies yield inconsistent efficacy and uncertain safety across different lesion types. Given the lack of robust evidence for consistent superiority over placebo and the global concern for antibiotic resistance, routine antibiotics monotherapy should be limited in the management of acne vulgaris.

- Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is a significant cause of respiratory infections in young children. Since 2021, RSV has been a notifiable disease in Australia. However, current surveillance systems focus on hospitalised RSV, with limited surveillance at a community level through primary care clinics. This approach only captures RSV requiring hospitalisation. Less severe illnesses, while not cap…
