  • Common Male Genitourinary Issues: Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia and Overactive Bladder. [Review]
FP Essent. 2026 Aug; 567:14-22.Irwin GFE
  • Lower urinary tract symptoms that significantly impair quality of life in men may result from benign prostatic hyperplasia, overactive bladder, or a combination of both conditions. The diagnosis of benign prostatic hyperplasia, a voiding dysfunction due to outlet obstruction, can be made with a thorough history and physical examination. A validated questionnaire should be used to make an accurate…
  • Sarcopenia and Female Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms: A Systematic Review. [Review]
Neurourol Urodyn. 2026 Aug 07. [Online ahead of print]Kuroda K, Ito KNU
  • CONCLUSIONS: Current evidence suggests that sarcopenia is associated with a broad spectrum of female LUTS through multiple interconnected mechanisms, including pelvic floor muscle dysfunction, trunk muscle deficiency, sarcopenic obesity, and frailty. Assessment of muscle health may improve risk stratification and facilitate multidisciplinary management of women with LUTS. Prospective longitudinal studies are warranted to clarify causality and evaluate whether interventions targeting sarcopenia can improve urinary outcomes.
  • Serum 17β-Estradiol Concentrations in Women With Interstitial Cystitis/Bladder Pain Syndrome: A Retrospective Observational Study. [Journal Article]
Cureus. 2026 Aug; 18(8):e114021.Priporeanu TA, Petre I, … Grigore NC
  • CONCLUSIONS: Low serum 17β-estradiol concentrations were frequently observed in this cohort of women with IC/BPS. Although these findings are consistent with the hypothesis that endocrine factors may contribute to disease heterogeneity, the retrospective observational design and the absence of a healthy control group preclude conclusions about causality or clinical application. Prospective longitudinal studies incorporating standardized hormone assessment, appropriate control groups, and adjustment for potential confounding variables are needed to clarify the role of circulating estradiol in IC/BPS.
  • Giant sacrococcygeal chordoma presenting with isolated urinary symptoms: A case report. [Case Reports]
Surg Neurol Int. 2026; 17:384.Sacal JC, Torun AASSN
  • CONCLUSIONS: Sacral chordomas may present atypically with isolated urinary or gastrointestinal symptoms in the absence of neurologic complaints. In patients with persistent pelvic or lower urinary tract symptoms and a negative urologic workup, early cross-sectional imaging should be considered. Awareness of these rare presentations may facilitate earlier diagnosis and improve outcomes.
  • Arginine vasopressin deficiency following SARS-CoV-2 infection: a rare pituitary complication. [Journal Article]
Endocrinol Diabetes Metab Case Rep. 2026 Jul 01; 2026(3).Mannion P, Jude EED
  • CONCLUSIONS: We describe a rare case of arginine vasopressin deficiency (AVP-D) in a female in her 40s that developed two weeks following symptomatic COVID-19 infection. Symptoms included polydipsia, nocturia and polyuria of 9.1 L per day. A water deprivation test demonstrated an ongoing high urine output despite increasing plasma osmolality, confirming the diagnosis. Desmopressin was commenced with good effect and titrated to clinical response. This demonstrates the importance of awareness of potential pituitary complications following COVID-19 infection, including AVP-D.
