Acremonium species are rare opportunistic fungal pathogens implicated in eumycetoma, with few reports in the dermatologic literature. This report describes a 64-year-old male farmer from rural western Guatemala with a 14-year history o…

- Osteosarcoma (OSA) is a malignant neoplasm of mesenchymal origin characterized by osteoid or immature bone production and is rarely reported in reptiles. A 3-month-old Argentine black and white tegu presented with a subcutaneous mass on the left flank, approximately 2 months after a dog bite. Physical and radiographic examination revealed no initial internal abnormalities, but follow-up examinati…

- MEOX1 Inhibits Growth and Metastasis of Salivary Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma. [Journal Article]Curr Issues Mol Biol. 2026 May 06; 48(5).CI
- Salivary adenoid cystic carcinoma (SACC) is a malignant salivary gland neoplasm characterized by aggressive local invasion and a marked propensity for metastasis. However, the role of MEOX1 in SACC progression remains poorly defined. In this study, we examined the effects of MEOX1 overexpression on the malignant behavior of SACC cells in vitro and in vivo. Human SACC-83 and SACC-LM cells were tra…

- Anchor-Related Granulomatous Reaction After Single-Incision Mid-urethral Sling Placement: A Case Report. [Case Reports]Cureus. 2026 Apr; 18(4):e107413.C
- Urinary incontinence is a common condition in adult women, significantly affecting quality of life, daily activities, and psychosocial well-being. Stress urinary incontinence (SUI) is the most frequent subtype, and it often coexists with pelvic organ prolapse (POP), as both conditions result from pelvic floor dysfunction and share risk factors such as childbirth and menopause. The Altis® mid-uret…

- Outbreaks of Granulomatous Disease Associated With Vibrio harveyi Infection in Grouper (Epinephelus fuscoguttatus × E. lanceolatus) Aquaculture in Taiwan. [Journal Article]J Fish Dis. 2026 May 21; :e70213. [Online ahead of print]JF
- Between 2015 and 2024, outbreaks of muscular and visceral granulomatous disease, resulting in moderate-to-severe mortality in farmed groupers, occurred in southern Taiwan. Initially, affected groupers were screened for granuloma-associated pathogens, including Mycobacterium spp., Nocardia spp., Photobacterium damselae and Edwardsiella spp., using PCR methods at local animal disease prevention and…

- Genital Dirofilaria: A Comprehensive Review of Clinical Presentations, Diagnosis and Management. [Review]
- CONCLUSIONS: Genital dirofilariasis should be included in the differential diagnosis of unexplained genital nodules or masses, especially in endemic areas or in patients with a history of travel to such regions. The diagnostic and therapeutic approach proposed here helps in identifying and managing these peculiar parasitic infections. A multidisciplinary approach is essential to avoid misdiagnosis and inappropriate invasive interventions.

- Association of leptin gene polymorphisms (rs791620 and rs7799039) with rheumatoid arthritis susceptibility and clinical manifestations: a case-control study. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: In the current cohort, no significant association was detected between LEP rs791620 or rs7799039 polymorphisms and RA susceptibility. However, these variants may influence specific phenotypic characteristics, such as subcutaneous nodules and joint erosions. Consequently, additional investigations involving larger cohorts are recommended. Highlights What is known about this research topic? • Leptin is a pro-inflammatory adipokine that involved in the pathogenesis of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) through its immunomodulatory effects on both T-cells and macrophages. • Genetic polymorphisms in the leptin (LEP) gene have been linked to various autoimmune diseases, however, their role in RA susceptibility is still largely unexplored. What this study adds and its future implications: New findings: • LEP rs791620 and rs7799039 polymorphisms were not associated with RA susceptibility. • LEP rs791620 CA genotype was correlated with male sex and subcutaneous nodules, while rs7799039 AA genotype was linked to higher patient global assessment, prolonged morning stiffness, and increased joint erosions.
