- Case Report: Pulmonary alveolar proteinosis and fibrosis associated with indium-tin-oxide exposure. [Case Reports]Front Med (Lausanne). 2026; 13:1856204.FM
- CONCLUSIONS: When a patient has a definite history of indium exposure, the diagnosis of PAP should be considered. Workers need to wear protective measures daily, as lung diseases caused by ITO exposure are associated with a poor prognosis.

- Myeloid-specific Becn1 deficiency elicits spontaneous pulmonary injury and exacerbates acute lung injury. [Journal Article]Respir Res. 2026 Jun 02. [Online ahead of print]RR
- CONCLUSIONS: Myeloid Becn1 governs pulmonary-intestinal immune homeostasis, and its deficiency drives spontaneous lung injury, hyperinflammation, impaired gut-lung crosstalk, and exacerbated acute lung injury, establishing myeloid Becn1 as a critical determinant of acute lung injury severity.

- Global burden of enteric infectious diseases, diarrhoeal diseases, and corresponding aetiologies, 1990-2023: a systematic analysis for the Global Burden of Disease Study 2023. [Journal Article]Lancet Infect Dis. 2026 Jun 02. [Online ahead of print]LI
- CONCLUSIONS: Our findings show that mortality and ASMRs of enteric infectious diseases declined substantially between 1990 and 2023. This decline is consistent with the expansion of public health measures and broader socioeconomic development. However, the burden in 2023 remains considerably high, with the highest mortality concentrated in sub-Saharan Africa and south Asia. Considering that more than a quarter of all countries had yet to meet the GAPPD mortality target in 2023, sustained efforts are needed to address the persistent burden in affected countries and to adapt to the changing global health landscape.

- Impacts of pollutant emissions from brick kilns on environment and human health. [Journal Article]Int J Environ Health Res. 2026 Jun 01; :1-11. [Online ahead of print]IJ
- Occupational risk factors associated with traditional kiln technology are major drivers of respiratory symptoms and illnesses. The current research was designed to evaluate prevalence of selected disease and respiratory symptoms among workers at two types of brick kilns. A proportionate stratified random-sampling-based survey was conducted during 2024-2025; a total of 250 adult men were assessed …

- Association Between Chronic PM2.5 Exposure and CT-Detected Lung Abnormalities in the SPIROMICS Cohort. [Journal Article]Ann Am Thorac Soc. 2026 Jun 02. [Online ahead of print]AA
- CONCLUSIONS: PM2.5 exposure was associated with CT-detected emphysema and small airway disease as well as lower FEV1 among those with smoking history and no airflow obstruction. Additionally, PM2.5 exposure was associated with greater symptom scores in women younger than 65 years.

- Lung cancer risk prediction models and asbestos exposure: a validation study on the Western Australia Asbestos Review Program. [Journal Article]Occup Environ Med. 2026 Jun 01. [Online ahead of print]OE
- CONCLUSIONS: In an asbestos exposed population, current LCS eligibility criteria and risk models mostly underestimate the risk of lung cancer, reflecting the need for improved risk prediction models that adequately account for asbestos exposure.

- Estrogen receptor β regulates sex-dependent airway mechanics and inflammation in a murine model of allergen exposure. [Journal Article]Physiol Rep. 2026 Jun; 14(11):e70948.PR
- Sex differences in asthma severity have been reported; however, the specific contribution of estrogen receptor β (ERβ) remains incompletely defined. We tested the hypothesis that ERβ modulates sex-specific physiological responses to chronic allergen exposure using C57BL/6J wild-type (WT) and ERβ-deficient (Esr2-/-) male and female mice subjected to 5 weeks of house dust mite (HDM) challenge. Lung…

- Aristolochic acid and the risk of female lung cancer: Population-based case-control study in Taiwan. [Journal Article]Cancer Epidemiol. 2026 May 30; 103:103131. [Online ahead of print]CE
- CONCLUSIONS: The study found that consumption of herbs containing aristolochic acid was associated with a modestly increased risk of lung cancer in women. However, the observed association was small, and no clear dose-response relationship was identified. Therefore, the findings should be interpreted cautiously given the potential for residual confounding and limitations in exposure assessment.

- Predictor and subgroup analysis of somatic symptoms and emotional exhaustion among university students in Germany during the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic: a longitudinal analysis. [Journal Article]Front Public Health. 2026; 14:1827225.FP
- The mental and physical health of university students is not just of interest to the students themselves, but to our whole society. While most research has focused on medical students, other disciplines remain underexplored. Therefore, this study aims (1) to assess the prevalence and development of emotional exhaustion and somatic symptoms from 2020 to 2021 in both cross-sectional and longitudina…

- Silicosis is the most common occupational lung disease and association with Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection is common. Although extrapulmonary tuberculosis cases are rare, skeletal tuberculosis is responsible for 10-35% of these cases. Pott's disease is the most common form of skeletal tuberculosis, but it is not commonly encountered today. A 49-year-old male patient presented to our clinic …

- CONCLUSIONS: Both pulmonary and disseminated histoplasmosis should be included in the differential diagnosis for febrile respiratory illness in individuals with high-risk occupations regardless of immune status, including in regions not classically considered endemic. Early recognition and antifungal therapy are essential to prevent complications and ensure recovery.

- Multi-omics reveals a novel Cxcr4+ subpopulation of alveolar macrophages and therapeutic effect of AMD3100 in mice with advanced silicosis. [Journal Article]Clin Transl Med. 2026 Jun; 16(6):e70705.CT
- CONCLUSIONS: Our findings suggest that silicosis-associated fibrosis progresses through a positive feedback loop involving interactions between Cxcr4+ AM macrophages and Cxcl12+ fibroblasts. These findings highlight the therapeutic promise of targeting the Cxcl12/Cxcr4 axis with AMD3100 as an innovative approach for silicosis treatment.
