- Degree of islet function preservation and continuous glucose monitoring in individuals undergoing total pancreatectomy with islet autotransplantation. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Nearly half of islet secretory function is retained after TPIAT. These results can facilitate shared decisions on the potential benefits of islet autotransplantation after total pancreatectomy, even in individuals with (pre)diabetes and previous pancreatic surgery.

- CONCLUSIONS: Conclusions: The highest communicative correlations in children of the first group were found for the vitamin D3 level with FE-1 (r=0.64) and fibrinogen in a negative direction (r=-0.30). The value of 1-antitrypsin was correlated in the first group with the minerals Ca (-0.30 at p=0.006), FE-1 (r=-0.26 at p=0.02), while in the second group there was a predominance of communications with inflammatory markers ALT (r=-0.30 at p=0.03), AST (r=-0.29 at p=0.04).

- Phenyllactic Acid Restores Intestinal Epithelial Barrier to Alleviate Hypertriglyceridemic Acute Pancreatitis via a PPARγ-Dependent Mechanism. [Journal Article]Antioxidants (Basel). 2026 May 28; 15(6).A
- Hypertriglyceridemic acute pancreatitis (HTG-AP) progresses rapidly with poor prognosis. Intestinal barrier dysfunction and excessive oxidative stress contribute to its pathogenesis, but specific mediators linking gut injury, oxidative stress and pancreatic damage remain unclear. Here, we identify endogenous phenyllactic acid (PLA) as a critical metabolite regulating intestinal barrier integrity …

- Natural History of Recurrent Acute Pancreatitis: Implications for Interventional Trial Design. [Journal Article]Aliment Pharmacol Ther. 2026 Jun 25. [Online ahead of print]AP
- CONCLUSIONS: RAP follows an accelerating course characterised by increasing recurrence risk. Risk-enriched trial designs targeting patients with more prior episodes may improve the feasibility and statistical efficiency of future interventional studies.

- Objective: To investigate the therapeutic efficacy of surgical rescue (SR) in patients with severe acute pancreatitis (SAP) complicated by infected pancreatic necrosis (IPN) and sepsis, and to identify the risk factors associated with SR failure. Methods: Clinical data were retrospectively collected from 130 patients with SAP complicated by IPN who developed sepsis and were admitted to the First A…

- The Adult Chronic Pancreatitis (CP) Working Group, formed at inception of the Consortium for the Study of Chronic Pancreatitis, Diabetes, and Pancreatic Cancer (CPDPC), has developed a robust framework and infrastructure to conduct clinical, translational, and mechanistic studies of CP. At its core is PROspective Evaluation of Chronic Pancreatitis for EpidEmiologic and Translational StuDies (PROC…

- Persistence of Mortality-Dominant Pancreatitis Burden Despite Declining Rates, 1990-2023: An Analysis of the Global Burden of Disease 2023 Study. [Journal Article]Med Sci (Basel). 2026 Jun 12; 14(2).MS
- CONCLUSIONS: Despite declines in global incidence, mortality, and DALY rates, the aggregate GBD pancreatitis burden remained overwhelmingly mortality-dominant from 1990 to 2023. Because GBD pancreatitis combines acute and chronic pancreatitis, this finding should be interpreted as describing the modelled aggregate pancreatitis cause category rather than proving subtype-specific mortality dominance. The intensity of fatal dominance varied by sex, SDI, region, age, and country, but a structural shift toward disability-dominant aggregate burden was not observed.

- Treatment of Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO) in Gastrointestinal, Hepatic, Endocrine, Neurological, and Postoperative Diseases: A Comprehensive Narrative Review. [Review]Med Sci (Basel). 2026 Jun 10; 14(2).MS
- Small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO) refers to an abnormal increase in the number of bacteria in the small intestine and is observed in various diseases. SIBO can also develop after long-term use of proton pump inhibitors (drug-induced SIBO), bariatric surgery, gastrectomy, and other surgeries (postoperative SIBO). The aim of this narrative review is to summarize all of the published info…

- Covered Self-Expandable Metallic Stents versus Multiple Plastic Stents for Benign Biliary Strictures: A Systematic Review, Meta-Analysis, and Trial Sequential Analysis. [Review]Avicenna J Med. 2026 Jan; 16(1):16-26.AJ
- CONCLUSIONS: Our analysis suggests that CSEMSs are comparable to MPSs in terms of efficacy and safety. However, it shows that CSEMSs are more cost-effective. Sample size calculations from our analyses can guide the design of future studies to validate the safety profiles and determine the feasibility of the two modalities.

- Acute pancreatitis temporally associated with COVID-19 pneumonia in a patient with post-tuberculosis chronic pulmonary aspergillosis: a case report. [Case Reports]Front Med (Lausanne). 2026; 13:1828229.FM
- This report describes a 59-year-old woman with a history of malignancy and post-tuberculosis lung disease complicated by chronic cavitary pulmonary aspergillosis. She was admitted with worsening hemoptysis and underwent bronchial artery embolization. However, she subsequently developed massive post-procedural hemoptysis, requiring mechanical ventilation. - Regulatory T Cells Along the Pancreatitis-Pancreatic Cancer Continuum: Context-Dependent Immune Control and Therapeutic Opportunities. [Review]Int J Gen Med. 2026; 19:611299.IJ
- Regulatory T cells (Tregs) are essential for maintaining immune tolerance and limiting collateral tissue injury during inflammation. In pancreatic diseases, however, Treg function is highly context-dependent: protective in acute inflammatory settings by restraining excessive immune activation, yet potentially pathogenic by fostering immunosuppression and immune escape in pancreatic ductal adenoca…

- Risk factors for post-ERCP pancreatitis and assessment of stent exchange intervals in children with chronic pancreatitis: a single-center retrospective study. [Journal Article]BMC Pediatr. 2026 Jun 24. [Online ahead of print]BPed
- CONCLUSIONS: PBM and small stent diameter (≤ 5 Fr) are associated with increased PEP risk, although causality cannot be established. Extending stent exchange intervals beyond 6 months does not increase the risk of symptoms or acute pancreatitis. Individualizing stent replacement schedules to lower procedural burden appears feasible, which requires further validation in prospective studies.

- CONCLUSIONS: Anti-migration FCSEMS appears technically feasible for selected pediatric and adult patients with dominant MPD strictures in CP, with no migration and low adverse event rates. Exploratory economic analysis demonstrated cost savings in both cohorts, with particularly favorable implications for pediatric patients, in whom endoscopic therapy remains the primary modality.
