- Sleep Disturbances Differentially Associated With First and Second Language Receptive Vocabulary in Autistic Children. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: These findings highlight the association between sleep behaviors and L2 vocabulary in autistic children. Future longitudinal and intervention-based research should further investigate the directionality of these relationships.

- Sexsomnia in a Young Man: A Non-REM Parasomnia With Diagnostic and Therapeutic Challenges. [Case Reports]Am J Case Rep. 2026 Jun 01; 27:e949679.AJ
- BACKGROUND Sexsomnia, a subtype of non-REM (NREM) parasomnia, consists of atypical sexual behaviors during sleep and presents with diagnostic and therapeutic challenges due to its under-recognition and overlap with other sleep and psychiatric disorders. Thus, its early diagnosis is quite challenging and important. CASE REPORT A 29-year-old man presented with a 2-year history of abnormal nocturnal…

- Sleep-related violence in parasomnias: Forensic and clinical insights for criminal responsibility assessments. [Journal Article]J Forensic Leg Med. 2026 May 26; 121:103183. [Online ahead of print]JF
- CONCLUSIONS: While sleep-related violence is a rare forensic entity, it presents significant diagnostic and legal challenges. This study underscores that in Continental Law jurisdictions like Türkiye, such cases are adjudicated as 'temporary causes' through a rigorous multidisciplinary lens. The implementation of a structured evidentiary framework for medico-legal triangulation-integrating clinical history, event phenomenology, and objective sleep data-is essential to foster transparency and objectivity in criminal responsibility assessments, effectively differentiating genuine sleep automatism from volitional conduct, malingering, or intoxication-related behaviors.

- Integration of Brain Proteomes and Genome-Wide Association Data Identifies GLO1 as a Candidate Causal Gene and Therapeutic Target for Restless Legs Syndrome. [Journal Article]Int J Mol Sci. 2026 May 15; 27(10).IJ
- Restless legs syndrome (RLS) is a common sensorimotor disorder with limited treatment options and incompletely understood pathophysiology. Genome-wide association studies have identified numerous risk loci, but translating these findings into causal genes and therapeutic targets remains challenging. We performed a proteome-wide association study (PWAS) integrating RLS genome-wide association stud…

- Night Terrors and Delirium in a Child With Presumed Rapid-Onset Obesity With Hypothalamic Dysfunction, Hypoventilation, and Autonomic Dysregulation. [Case Reports]Cureus. 2026 Apr; 18(4):e107609.C
- Comorbid neuropsychiatric conditions, including major depressive disorder, anxiety, bipolar disorder, and psychosis, are reported among children with rapid-onset obesity with hypothalamic dysfunction, hypoventilation, and autonomic dysregulation (ROHHAD). The association of ROHHAD with parasomnias is poorly understood. We describe the presentation and management of night terrors superimposed on d…

- Unraveling sleep dysfunction in progressive supranuclear palsy: a pilot study on the role of periodic limb movements in sleep and insomnia. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Sleep disturbances are more severe in PSP than in PD, including patients with PSP exhibiting higher rates of insomnia and greater disruption of sleep architecture. PLMS in PSP are at least as common as in PD and are linked to heightened sleep complaints. These exploratory findings underscore the necessity for further research to elucidate the distinct pathophysiological mechanisms of sleep dysfunction in tauopathies and synucleinopathies, and to guide the developement of targeted therapeutic interventions.

- Altered circadian patterns of diurnal blood pressure in clinical phenotypes of bruxism: A pilot study on autonomic imbalance in healthy young adults. [Journal Article]Dent Med Probl. 2026; 63(2):533-539.DM
- CONCLUSIONS: Behavioral bruxism phenotypes, particularly SB, may reflect underlying autonomic imbalance and altered circadian BP modulation, even in clinically normotensive individuals. These findings support the hypothesis that bruxism may serve as a behavioral marker of subclinical cardiovascular risk. Further studies incorporating objective autonomic markers and longitudinal data are warranted.

- REM Sleep Behavior Disorder as a Key Predictor of Cognitive Decline: Insights from a Narrative Review. [Review]Sleep Sci. 2026 Mar; 19(1):1-9.SS
- CONCLUSIONS: A powerful early biomarker for cognitive decline associated with synucleinopathies, the early identification of RDB through comprehensive neuropsychological profiling, advanced imaging techniques, and molecular diagnostic methods is essential for risk stratification and monitoring. Although disease-modifying therapies remain elusive, a deeper understanding of shared pathogenic pathways offers promising avenues for targeted neuroprotective strategies.

- Update on Restless Legs Syndrome Management during Pregnancy. [Review]Sleep Med Clin. 2026 Jun; 21(2):233-240.SM
- Restless legs syndrome (RLS) affects about 1 in 4 pregnant women, typically emerging in the second or third trimester and resolving after delivery. Iron deficiency, family history, and multiparity are consistent risk factors, with transient RLS conferring increased long-term risk of chronic disease. Management prioritizes nonpharmacologic measures and iron repletion, reserving medication for seve…

- Sense of coherence as a protective factor in sleep and awake bruxism effects on adolescents quality of life. [Journal Article]Braz Oral Res. 2026; 40:e022.BO
- This study aimed to assess whether the sense of coherence (SOC) moderates the association between self-reported sleep bruxism (SB) and self-reported awake bruxism (AB) on oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL). A cross-sectional analysis was conducted with a random sample of 406 adolescents aged 11 to 17 years from Southern Brazil. OHRQoL was measured using the Child Perception Questionnair…

- True vignettes: interesting, illustrative examples of behavioral abnormalities in people with Parkinson's disease. [Case Reports]Arq Neuropsiquiatr. 2026 May; 84(5):1-6.AN
- CONCLUSIONS: Patients with PD often have had unusual experiences that they may not share without inquiries by their healthcare providers, fearful of how they will be perceived. Sensitive inquiries are required to reveal these problems. We believe that reading about real experiences will help sensitize the reader.

- CONCLUSIONS: Our study demonstrated that high-frequency oscillations can be detected in patients with NREM arousal parasomnias. This original and significant finding is needed to be supported by further studies, to better explore the role of HFOs in the pathophysiology of NREM-related parasomnias.

- We report a patient experiencing episodes of night terrors who, after 24-h ECG monitoring and polysomnography, was diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnoea-induced atrioventricular block. His symptoms resolved following continuous positive airway pressure therapy. This case may indicate that night terrors can be an atypical manifestation of hypopnoea or arrhythmia.
