- Psychopathological correlates of early childhood sleep terror: associations with nutritional biomarkers, behavioral dysregulation, and sleep disturbance. [Journal Article]BMC Psychiatry. 2026 Jun 18. [Online ahead of print]BP
- CONCLUSIONS: ST in early childhood was associated with a multidimensional profile of anxiety, behavioral dysregulation, parent-rated sleep disturbance, and lower vitamin D, vitamin B12, and folate levels. Clinical symptom differences remained robust after FDR correction. During naturalistic follow-up, vitamin B12 increased and symptom scores decreased, but change-score analyses did not support a direct biomarker-symptom association. These findings should be interpreted as hypothesis-generating. Larger prospective, controlled studies are needed to clarify the role of micronutrient status in early childhood ST.

- Frequency of Suicidal Ideation and Associations With Autonomic, Motor, and Cognitive Dysfunction in People With REM Sleep Behavior Disorders. [Journal Article]Neurology. 2026 Jul 14; 107(1):e218216.Neur
- CONCLUSIONS: Recent suicidal ideation occurred in approximately 1 of 12 patients with iRBD, a prodromal syndrome of PD with an increased risk of death by suicide. Individuals with iRBD who scored higher on PHQ-9 had on average greater autonomic dysfunction on SCOPA-AUT, more motor findings, and greater cognitive deficits. This study establishes that suicidal ideation is common in iRBD and suggests an iRBD phenotype that identifies individuals at high risk of depression and suicide. Future studies should expand on these findings and target interventions to decrease mortality and self-harm.

- Slow-Wave Sleep Fragmentation in Disorders of Arousal and Sleep-Related Hypermotor Epilepsy: A Multicenter Polysomnographic Study. [Multicenter Study]Neurology. 2026 Jul 14; 107(1):e218158.Neur
- CONCLUSIONS: SWS fragmentation, especially mixed and slow arousals, represents a supportive neurophysiologic marker that may assist the differential diagnostic process between DOAs and SHE. Quantitative SWS microstructure parameters may improve diagnosis and provide insight into pathophysiologic mechanisms.

- Unraveling Protracted Neuropsychiatric Symptoms in a Patient With Altered Post-Bariatric Pharmacokinetics: A Diagnostic Puzzle. [Journal Article]Case Rep Psychiatry. 2026; 2026:8340699.CR
- CONCLUSIONS: This case highlights the diagnostic complexity following SS in patients with altered gastrointestinal anatomy and genetic variances. It emphasizes how an acute organic insult-whether serotonin toxicity, prolonged SSRI discontinuation, or a combination of both-can serve as a physiological trigger for complex FND and PNES, requiring multidisciplinary management. The limitations inherent in single-case observations are discussed.

- Sleep Disturbances Among Yazidi Survivors of the ISIS Genocide: Epidemiology, Neuropsychology, and Culturally Sensitive Interventions. [Review]Brain Behav. 2026 Jun; 16(6):e71523.BB
- The Yazidi community endured an unprecedented genocide by the Islamic State (ISIS) in August 2014, resulting in mass killings, kinocide, abductions, ongoing disappearances, and sexual enslavement. The intense trauma led to high prevalence rates of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression, anxiety, and profound sleep disturbances. This comprehensive article integrates epidemiological data,…

- The Prodromal Synucleinopathy Rating Scale: An Assessment in Patients With REM Sleep Behavior Disorder. [Multicenter Study]Neurology. 2026 Jul 14; 107(1):e218176.Neur
- CONCLUSIONS: In this large multicenter RBD cohort, moderate to strong correlations were observed between PSRS domains and multiple independent measures of clinical burden. Reliability data were good to excellent. These findings demonstrate preliminary validity for the PSRS for measuring synucleinopathy clinical burden in those with RBD.

- Screening tools for sleep disorders in patients with psychiatric disorders. [Review]Encephale. 2026 Jun; 52(3S):S16-S24.E
- Sleep and mental health are closely interconnected. Alterations in sleep patterns are frequent among patients with psychiatric disorders and can exacerbate symptom severity or interfere with treatment outcomes. Despite this, systematic sleep assessment is not consistently integrated into psychiatric practice. This review presents a comprehensive overview of the main questionnaires available to as…

- Sleep disturbances in Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder: State of the art and management. [Review]Encephale. 2026 Jun; 52(3S):S51-S56.E
- Sleep disorders are a frequent comorbidity in patients with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), from childhood through adulthood. These disturbances include sleep-related complaints such as insomnia symptoms and daytime sleepiness, as well as well-defined sleep pathologies such as sleep-disordered breathing, restless legs syndrome, and circadian rhythm disorders. These disturbances h…

- The Effect of Dopaminergic Medication on Impulse Control and Compulsive Behaviour: A Translational Perspective. [Review]Basic Clin Pharmacol Toxicol. 2026 Jul; 139(1):e70264.BC
- Dopaminergic medication used in disorders like Parkinson's disease (PD) and restless legs syndrome can cause impulsive-compulsive behaviour (ICB), often with strong negative effects on patients' quality of life. This narrative review presents translational evidence on iatrogenic ICB, taking findings from epidemiological, clinical, neuroimaging and preclinical studies into consideration. Epidemiol…

- CONCLUSIONS: Combined aromatherapy-reflexology ranked highest in the network meta-analysis, but this result rests on one small trial (n=35) and an indirect comparison, so it should be read as hypothesis-generating rather than confirmatory. All included trials were conducted in Iran, which limits how far the findings can be extrapolated to other settings. Future rigorously designed, adequately powered trials with blinded outcome assessment are especially needed to establish definitive treatment recommendations.
- Prisoners of the Body: The Link Between Interoception and Sleep Paralysis. [Journal Article]J Sleep Res. 2026 Jun 12; :e70393. [Online ahead of print]JS
- Sleep paralysis (SP) is a REM sleep parasomnia characterized by transient motor paralysis during sleep onset or awakening. It is a terrifying experience often accompanied by vivid hallucinations. Although it is classically linked to narcolepsy, isolated SP in healthy individuals offers a valuable model to investigate the interaction between REM sleep physiology and conscious awareness. In a sampl…

- [Prevalence and phenomenology of sleep paralysis in medical students]. [Journal Article]Zh Nevrol Psikhiatr Im S S Korsakova. 2026; 126(5. Vyp. 2):63-67.ZN
- CONCLUSIONS: SP is a common sleep disorder among medical students, with similar rates in both males and females. Recurrent clinically significant episodes facilitate the identification of recurrent isolated SP, which is more frequent in females. Patients with SP should receive information regarding the nature of the disorder and be encouraged to seek medical and psychological support. It is essential for pediatricians to recognize these sleep disorders, and clinicians should avoid misdiagnosing mental disorders in patients presenting with parasomnia.
