  • Sleep-related violence in parasomnias: Forensic and clinical insights for criminal responsibility assessments. [Journal Article]
J Forensic Leg Med. 2026 May 26; 121:103183. [Online ahead of print]Asan Ö, Boylu ME, … Gök AMJF
  • CONCLUSIONS: While sleep-related violence is a rare forensic entity, it presents significant diagnostic and legal challenges. This study underscores that in Continental Law jurisdictions like Türkiye, such cases are adjudicated as 'temporary causes' through a rigorous multidisciplinary lens. The implementation of a structured evidentiary framework for medico-legal triangulation-integrating clinical history, event phenomenology, and objective sleep data-is essential to foster transparency and objectivity in criminal responsibility assessments, effectively differentiating genuine sleep automatism from volitional conduct, malingering, or intoxication-related behaviors.
  • REM Sleep Behavior Disorder as a Key Predictor of Cognitive Decline: Insights from a Narrative Review. [Review]
Sleep Sci. 2026 Mar; 19(1):1-9.Khorshidian FSS
  • CONCLUSIONS: A powerful early biomarker for cognitive decline associated with synucleinopathies, the early identification of RDB through comprehensive neuropsychological profiling, advanced imaging techniques, and molecular diagnostic methods is essential for risk stratification and monitoring. Although disease-modifying therapies remain elusive, a deeper understanding of shared pathogenic pathways offers promising avenues for targeted neuroprotective strategies.

Management prioritizes nonpharmacologic measures and iron repletion, reserving medication for seve…

  • Night Terrors as Prodromal Symptom of Obstructive Sleep Apnoea-Induced Arrhythmia: A Case Report. [Journal Article]
Respirol Case Rep. 2026 May; 14:e70619.Ghaderi R, Aloosh O, Karimi MRC
  • We report a patient experiencing episodes of night terrors who, after 24-h ECG monitoring and polysomnography, was diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnoea-induced atrioventricular block. His symptoms resolved following continuous positive airway pressure therapy. This case may indicate that night terrors can be an atypical manifestation of hypopnoea or arrhythmia. Therefore, it may be reasonable …
