- A forgotten cause of chest pain in the United States: a case report on acute rheumatic fever. [Journal Article]J Med Case Rep. 2026 Jun 23. [Online ahead of print]JM
- CONCLUSIONS: Our case report demonstrates the importance of considering ARF, despite its rarity in the United States. As subacute myocarditis can go undiagnosed by echocardiography, we demonstrate that cardiac MRI is an important tool in establishing a diagnosis of myocarditis that is otherwise inconclusive. The serologic markers ASO and ADB should be used in combination to confirm a preceding GAS infection, given their variability from individual to individual.

- Myopericarditis Presenting With McConnell's Sign: A Case Report and Literature Review. [Case Reports]Cureus. 2026 May; 18(5):e109436.C
- McConnell's sign is a classic echocardiographic finding most often encountered in the context of acute pulmonary embolism and is defined by severe hypokinesis or akinesis of the right ventricular free wall and hypercontractility of the apex. Despite having a high specificity for pulmonary embolism, other causes of McConnell's sign have been reported. This case is a rare presentation of McConnell'…

- Design, Biological Characterization, and Discovery of the Brain-Penetrant NLRP3 Inhibitor Based on a [1,2,4]Triazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidine Scaffold for the Treatment of Central Nervous System Diseases. [Journal Article]J Med Chem. 2026 Jun 22. [Online ahead of print]JM
- NLRP3 inflammasome is a critical cytosolic multiprotein complex central to the innate immune response. Upon activation, NLRP3 oligomerizes and recruits the adapter protein ASC; this scaffold recruits and activates pro-caspase-1. Active caspase-1 catalyzes the proteolytic maturation and secretion of the potent pro-inflammatory cytokines IL-1β and IL-18, and induces a programmed cell death called p…

- Autoimmune pericarditis is commonly idiopathic but may represent the initial manifestation of systemic autoimmune disease. Hepatic autoimmune disorders rarely present with primary cardiac involvement, and recognition of extrahepatic presentations is essential for early diagnosis and prevention of organ damage. Autoimmune hepatitis-primary biliary cholangitis (AIH-PBC) overlap syndrome is an uncom…

- Pathway for the Diagnosis and Management of Pericardial Disease: Contemporary Perspective. [Journal Article]Crit Pathw Cardiol. 2026 Jun 23. [Online ahead of print]CP
- Pericardial disease represents a diverse clinical spectrum, including acute pericarditis, pericardial effusion, cardiac tamponade, effusive-constrictive pericarditis, and constrictive pericarditis, which vary significantly in presentation, urgency, and management. Recent consensus guidelines from the European Society of Cardiology and the American College of Cardiology have enhanced clinical phen…

- Predictors and Clinical Impact of Tricuspid Regurgitation After Pericardiectomy for Constrictive Pericarditis. [Journal Article]Cardiology. 2026 Jun 22; :1-23. [Online ahead of print]C
- CONCLUSIONS: An enlarged left atrium is a risk factor for postoperative significant TR resulting in poor survival after pericardiectomy in CP patients. These results may help to identify patients who may benefit from combined tricuspid valve surgery.

- Case Report: Adult-onset Still's disease presenting with massive hemorrhagic pericardial effusion without the characteristic rash. [Case Reports]Front Med (Lausanne). 2026; 13:1848108.FM
- Adult-onset Still's disease (AOSD) is a rare systemic autoinflammatory disorder without universally accepted disease-specific biomarkers, although serum ferritin and glycosylated ferritin may provide supportive diagnostic value. Therefore, diagnosis relies on a combination of clinical manifestations, laboratory abnormalities, and exclusion of alternative diagnoses, commonly using criteria such as…

- Cardiac Tamponade Secondary to Severe Uremic Pericarditis in the Modern Dialysis Era: A Case Report. [Case Reports]Cureus. 2026 Jun; 18(6):e111126.C
- Uremic pericarditis is currently an uncommon complication of end-stage renal disease (ESRD) in developed countries due to improved access to renal replacement therapy and earlier initiation of hemodialysis. Nevertheless, delayed or interrupted dialysis may still result in life-threatening manifestations, including massive pericardial effusion and cardiac tamponade. We present the case of a 44-yea…

- Musculoskeletal ultrasound discriminating camptodactyly-arthropathy-coxa vara-pericarditis syndrome and juvenile idiopathic arthritis. [Journal Article]Front Pediatr. 2026; 14:1829170.FP
- CONCLUSIONS: CACP is characterised by symmetrical large-joint effusions with hyperechoic foci and absence of intrasynovial DM signal, in contrast to inflammatory findings in JIA. These features may support early differentiation of CACP from JIA and therefore prompt earlier specific diagnostics, including genetic testing.

- Constrictive-effusive pericarditis as presenting feature of IgG4-related disease (IgG4-RD): a case report. [Journal Article]J Med Case Rep. 2026 Jun 21. [Online ahead of print]JM
- CONCLUSIONS: This case highlights difficulty in diagnosing and treating IgG4-RD. His initial IgG4 serum level was normal to only mildly elevated. Definitive diagnosis was via tissue biopsy which required open heart surgery to access. Prior to the diagnosis, he was treated with methylprednisolone which led to severely elevated glucose levels. Oral steroids could not stop the progression of constrictive pericarditis. Pericardiectomy and subsequent treatment with rituximab led to continued remission.

- CONCLUSIONS: In the absence of myocardial fibrosis or myocarditis on cardiac magnetic resonance, the reversible severe systolic dysfunction was most likely due to mechanical constraint.Advanced constrictive tuberculous pericarditis can manifest with profound but reversible ventricular systolic dysfunction, and timely pericardiectomy can be lifesaving.
