- A forgotten cause of chest pain in the United States: a case report on acute rheumatic fever. [Journal Article]J Med Case Rep. 2026 Jun 23. [Online ahead of print]JM
- CONCLUSIONS: Our case report demonstrates the importance of considering ARF, despite its rarity in the United States. As subacute myocarditis can go undiagnosed by echocardiography, we demonstrate that cardiac MRI is an important tool in establishing a diagnosis of myocarditis that is otherwise inconclusive. The serologic markers ASO and ADB should be used in combination to confirm a preceding GAS infection, given their variability from individual to individual.

- Cold agglutinin syndrome secondary to Epstein-Barr virus reactivation during corticosteroid therapy for minimal change nephrotic syndrome in a patient with human immunodeficiency virus infection. [Case Reports]
- Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), a member of the herpesvirus family, establishes lifelong latency following primary infection and may be reactivated under conditions of immunosuppression. EBV reactivation is classically associated with infectious mononucleosis and Burkitt lymphoma and rarely associated with cold agglutinin syndrome. Here, we describe a case of minimal change nephrotic syndrome complicat…

- Health insurance and antibiotic prescription in pharyngitis: a cross-sectional study in Saudi Arabian primary healthcare centers. [Journal Article]Front Med (Lausanne). 2026; 13:1814507.FM
- Inappropriate antibiotic prescribing for acute pharyngitis remains a key driver of antibiotic resistance and a persistent public health challenge. This study examined antibiotic prescribing patterns and their association with demographic characteristics and health insurance factors among acute pharyngitis visits in Saudi Arabian governmental primary healthcare centers. A cross-sectional analysis …

- A hidden diagnosis in the tonsil: recognising and differentiating intratonsillar abscess. [Journal Article]Acta Otorhinolaryngol Ital. 2026 Jun; 46(3):194-202.AO
- CONCLUSIONS: ITA typically presents with smaller abscesses and limited systemic involvement, often responding to conservative treatment. Recognising ITA as a distinct clinical entity may improve diagnosis and management strategies.

- Clinical Characteristics and Risk Factors of Voice Disorders Among Singers: A Clinic-Based Cross-Sectional Study in the Country Georgia. [Journal Article]J Voice. 2026 Jun 18. [Online ahead of print]JV
- CONCLUSIONS: Voice disorders are common among singers and are primarily associated with intensive vocal use and inflammatory or structural laryngeal conditions. Preventive strategies, including vocal hygiene education, appropriate vocal rest, and regular clinical evaluation, are essential for maintaining vocal health among professional voice users.

- Integrating network pharmacology and MALDI-MSI spatial metabolomics revealing ellagic acid as the key anti-pharyngitis agent in Fructus Chebulae and its key metabolic pathways in pharyngeal tissues. [Journal Article]Food Funct. 2026 Jun 18. [Online ahead of print]FF
- Current pharyngitis treatment relies heavily on antibiotics and glucocorticoids, leading to increasing bacterial resistance and significant adverse drug reactions, while the traditional efficacy of Fructus Chebulae is to reduce swelling and relieve sore throat, yet its key components and mechanism against pharyngitis need systematic research. Therefore, this study aimed to integrate MALDI-MSI spa…

- Real world pharmacovigilance study of FDA adverse event reporting system events for Spiriva Respimat. [Journal Article]Front Med (Lausanne). 2026; 13:1802121.FM
- CONCLUSIONS: This study identifies previously underrecognized safety risks of Spiriva Respimat with direct implications for clinical practice. We recommend baseline ophthalmologic screening, annual monitoring for ocular complications, and careful patient selection in elderly populations with comorbidities. These findings support personalized risk-benefit assessment in COPD and asthma management. Our risk stratification framework enables clinicians to identify high-risk patients and implement targeted surveillance protocols, potentially preventing serious adverse outcomes.

- Epidemiology and clinical course of PFAPA syndrome in the pediatric population-single center study. [Journal Article]BMC Pediatr. 2026 Jun 15. [Online ahead of print]BPed
- CONCLUSIONS: This study confirms the established epidemiologic and clinical profile of PFAPA syndrome in the pediatric population, highlighting its characteristic manifestations and the high effectiveness of glucocorticoid therapy and tonsillectomy. The findings may contribute to consolidating current knowledge about PFAPA and to reducing the inappropriate use of antibiotics.

- DYNAMICS OF THE FUNCTIONAL STATE OF THE RESPIRATORY SYSTEM IN CHILDREN DURING COMPLEX REHABILITATION. [Journal Article]Georgian Med News. 2026 Apr; (373):36-42.GM
- CONCLUSIONS: About the pronounced beneficial effect of the developed rehabilitation complex using therapeutic gymnastics in water on the development of the functional capabilities of the respiratory system of patients with bronchial asthma and chronic diseases of the upper respiratory tract.
- Long-term comorbidity associated with childhood periodic fever, aphthous stomatitis, pharyngitis, and adenitis (PFAPA) syndrome: a case-control study. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Children with PFAPA did not exhibit greater long-term morbidity than controls, except for a higher prevalence of atopy. Respiratory infections, recurrent otitis media, and fungal infections were more frequent among cases than controls. These findings may reflect greater healthcare use rather than true susceptibility to infections. Environmental risk factors were similar between the groups.

- Prevalence of key bacterial pathogens among children with pharyngotonsillitis in The Gambia - a case-control study. [Journal Article]J Infect. 2026 Jun 10; 93(2):106787. [Online ahead of print]JI
- CONCLUSIONS: S. pyogenes was the only pathogen more prevalent among cases. F. necrophorum was more common in pharyngeal samples from children in The Gambia than previously described in high-income countries, yet neither F. necrophorum or SDSE differed between cases and controls.

- A traditional botanical formula attenuates acute pharyngitis in mice through anti-inflammatory and anti-staphylococcal activities. [Journal Article]Front Microbiol. 2026; 17:1841770.FM
- Acute pharyngitis is a common upper respiratory tract infectious disease worldwide. The increasing prevalence of multidrug‑resistant pathogens, particularly methicillin‑resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), greatly hinders clinical treatment and predisposes patients to recurrent and persistent inflammation. Consequently, there is an urgent need for safe and effective alternative therapeutic age…

- Post-Streptococcal Neutrophilic Pustular Dermatosis: Expanding the Histopathological Paradigm of Reactive Neutrophilic Dermatoses. [Case Reports]J Cutan Pathol. 2026 Jun 04. [Online ahead of print]JC
- Post-streptococcal pustulosis was first described in 1974 by Tan et al., and was only clearly distinguished from acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis in 1995. It is a rare neutrophilic dermatosis which usually arises following group A streptococcal infections, and is self-limited in time, typically resolving with 1 month. Clinical presentation includes a roughly symmetrical sterile pustular…
