- A young woman with dramatic pulmonary hypertension and respiratory failure: a case report. [Case Reports]Front Med (Lausanne). 2026; 13:1788480.FM
- Acid α-glucosidase (GAA) is the sole lysosomal enzyme responsible for degrading glycogen into glucose monomers. Deficiency of GAA leads to progressive lysosomal glycogen accumulation and cellular dysfunction, resulting in Pompe disease (PD), an autosomal recessive disorder. This case report described a 41-year-old woman who presented with progressive dyspnea and decreased exercise tolerance. The …

- Pulmonary Arteriovenous Malformation Presenting With Acute Dyspnea: A Case Report. [Journal Article]J Acute Med. 2026 Jun 01; 16(2):79-81.JA
- A 65-year-old male presented to the emergency department with acute dyspnea and critically low oxygen saturation (77%), which led to the discovery of an unusual pulmonary arteriovenous malformation (PAVM). Computed tomographic pulmonary angiography revealed a 2.5-cm vascular lesion connecting the right inferior pulmonary artery to the left cardiac atrium, resulting in significant right-to-left sh…

- Air embolism resulting from contrast agent injection during coronary computed tomography: a case report. [Journal Article]J Cardiothorac Surg. 2026 Jun 03. [Online ahead of print]JC
- CONCLUSIONS: While rare, air embolism can cause mild symptoms with small volumes, but larger volumes may be life-threatening. Air embolism should be suspected in patients with sudden neurological, respiratory or cardiovascular symptoms, especially in the presence of iatrogenic risk factors. Prompt cessation of the embolism source, appropriate patient positioning, high-flow oxygen therapy, and hyperbaric oxygen treatment when indicated should be initiated immediately to minimize air entry into the right ventricular outflow tract. These timely interventions can prevent disease progression, improve patient outcomes and reduce mortality.

- Thoracoscopic diagnosis of tuberculous pleuritis mimicking pleural malignancy with chest wall involvement: a challenging case report. [Journal Article]J Cardiothorac Surg. 2026 Jun 03. [Online ahead of print]JC
- CONCLUSIONS: Tuberculous pleuritis can mimic pleural malignancy, particularly in the presence of chest wall involvement. Thoracoscopic pleural biopsy remains a highly valuable diagnostic tool in cases where non-invasive investigations are inconclusive or unavailable.

- Pulmonary valve and supravalvular membrane fusion: a case report. [Journal Article]J Cardiothorac Surg. 2026 Jun 03. [Online ahead of print]JC
- CONCLUSIONS: This case presents a unique anatomical variant of isolated congenital supravalvular pulmonary stenosis, characterized by fusion between the abnormal supravalvular membrane and one valve leaflet. The surgical approach adopted achieved acceptable results and substantially improved the patient's clinical condition.

- Comparative effectiveness of triple versus dual inhaled therapy (ICS/LABA or LABA/LAMA) for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease: a systematic review and network meta-analysis. [Systematic Review]BMC Pulm Med. 2026 Jun 04. [Online ahead of print]BP
- CONCLUSIONS: Triple therapy was associated with improvements in some outcomes, particularly lung function, but did not show consistent statistically significant superiority over dual therapy across all endpoints in this network meta-analysis. Given the small number of included trials and limited power for some comparisons, these findings should be interpreted cautiously and should not be taken as evidence of equivalence. Dual regimens remained effective options, while triple therapy may still be beneficial in selected high-risk patients. Personalized treatment based on exacerbation history, eosinophil count, and pneumonia risk remains essential.

- A retrospective analysis was conducted of the clinical data of 22 patients with refractory bronchopleural fistula admitted to the Department of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, Emergency General Hospital, from January 2024 to January 2025.All patients underwent bronchoscopic airway stent placement combined with petroleum jelly gauze packing. Of these, 18 cases (81.8%) had central-type fist…

- Metronome-Paced Tachypnea Test Cutoff Value for Detecting Dynamic Hyperinflation in COPD: A Diagnostic Accuracy Study. [Journal Article]Respir Med. 2026 Jun 02; :108924. [Online ahead of print]RM
- CONCLUSIONS: The MPT test showed good diagnostic accuracy as a simple screening tool for detecting exercise-induced DH in COPD. An absolute IC decrease ≥ 0.27 L after MPT may represent a potentially useful cross-sectional screening threshold, although further validation is needed before it can be interpreted as a definitive longitudinal threshold.

- Long-term outcomes of COVID-19 in primary care: 5-Year follow-up of hospitalized and non-hospitalized patients in a population-based cohort study. [Journal Article]Semergen. 2026 Jun 03; 52(5):102781. [Online ahead of print]S
- CONCLUSIONS: Five years after acute SARS-CoV-2 infection, a substantial proportion of patients continue to experience persistent symptoms, particularly affecting respiratory function and cognitive health. Although severe outcomes were rare, the increased incidence of thromboembolic events and herpes zoster highlights potential long-term immune alterations following COVID-19. This study addresses gaps in existing literature, which has predominantly focused on hospitalized patients with short-term follow-up. The findings underscore the importance of long-term monitoring, rehabilitation strategies, and interdisciplinary care models in primary care to optimize early intervention and healthcare resource allocation for individuals with post-COVID conditions.

- Tertiary Syphilitic Aortitis Manifesting as Ascending Aortic Aneurysm and Dissection. [Case Reports]JACC Case Rep. 2026 Jun 02; :108453. [Online ahead of print]JC
- CONCLUSIONS: This case illustrates the resurgence of syphilis, a life-threatening cardiovascular complication. Progression to dissection represents an atypical clinical trajectory for syphilitic aortitis. The active inflammatory phase may paradoxically weaken the aortic wall and facilitating dissection. Syphilis prevalence is increasing worldwide, necessitating clinical vigilance. The identification of an aortic aneurysm in young patients, particularly in the presence of a tricuspid aortic valve, should prompt immediate screening for syphilis and other infectious etiologies.

- CONCLUSIONS: Elevated prosthetic gradients and restricted leaflet motion confirm obstruction but do not reliably distinguish thrombus from pannus. Mixed pathology may be missed if multimodality imaging is not performed. In mechanical mitral valve obstruction, 4D TEE can define the dominant mechanism of obstruction, guide selection of thrombolysis vs surgery, and document treatment success.

- Beyond the uterus: Metastatic leiomyoma. [Case Reports]J Clin Imaging Sci. 2026; 16:20.JC
- Uterine leiomyomas are common benign smooth muscle tumors typically confined to the uterus and hormonally responsive to estrogen and progesterone, typically regressing after menopause. Rarely, they demonstrate metastatic behavior despite benign histology, a condition known as benign metastasizing leiomyoma (BML). BML is exceedingly rare and can mimic malignancy, posing diagnostic challenges. We r…

- Acute pulmonary edema secondary to magnesium sulfate tocolysis in twin pregnancy: a case report. [Case Reports]Case Rep Perinat Med. 2026 Jan; 15(1):20250029.CR
- CONCLUSIONS: This case highlights the potential risks of fluid retention and the importance of monitoring maternal fluid status during tocolysis. It also emphasizes the need for vigilance in managing twin pregnancies with magnesium sulfate therapy to prevent serious complications such as pulmonary edema. Clinicians should be aware of this rare but potentially life-threatening complication and ensure that fluid balance is carefully monitored in such cases.
