- Clinical characteristics and vascular involvement of Takayasu arteritis versus Kawasaki disease in infants and young children. [Journal Article]Pediatr Rheumatol Online J. 2026 May 09. [Online ahead of print]PR
- CONCLUSIONS: In young children, particularly female infants, who present with prolonged fever and a poor response to IVIG, c-TAK should be considered as an important differential diagnosis alongside IVIG-resistant KD. The distribution of vascular involvement, detailed imaging characteristics and regular follow-up may be helpful for the differential diagnosis of these two diseases.

- Facet-selective anisotropic growth of 1D calcite nanowhiskers via Mg/Zn/SO4 additive-assisted carbonation. [Journal Article]Sci Rep. 2026 May 09. [Online ahead of print]SR
- Achieving highly anisotropic, whisker-like calcium carbonate (CaCO3) architectures while retaining the thermodynamically stable calcite phase remains a significant challenge. Here, we present a staged additive-assisted carbonation strategy employing Mg, Zn, and SO4 species to produce sub-micrometer calcite nanorods and whiskers. Powder X-ray diffraction identifies the product as calcite without d…

- Correlation study of infrapatellar fat pad EI in assessing clinical symptoms of knee osteoarthritis. [Journal Article]Sci Rep. 2026 May 09. [Online ahead of print]SR
- Infrapatellar fat pad (IPFP) is considered a marker for disease progression in knee osteoarthritis (KOA), but currently no ultrasound parameters effectively quantify abnormal changes in IPFP. To investigate the correlation between clinical symptoms of KOA and semi-quantitative ultrasound scores as well as the echo intensity (EI) of the IPFP, and investigate the correlation between the IPFP EI and…

- Objective: To analyze the diagnostic and therapeutic characteristics of patients with antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA)-associated vasculitis (AAV) with predominantly nasal symptoms. Methods: Clinical data of 10 patients (4 males and 6 females, aged 24-73 years) with AAV with predominantly nasal symptoms who were treated in the Second Hospital of Shanxi Medical University from January 20…

- A blood-brain barrier-like vascular gate limits immunotherapy efficacy in neuroendocrine cancers. [Journal Article]Cell. 2026 May 07. [Online ahead of print]Cell
- Small cell lung cancer (SCLC), a highly aggressive neuroendocrine malignancy, exhibits poor response to immunotherapy, and the underlying mechanisms remain unclear. Here, we identify a blood-brain barrier-like vascular gate (BVG) in SCLC, distinct from non-SCLC (NSCLC) and other cancers, composed of tightly connected endothelial cells, a thickened basement membrane, and dense pericyte coverage. F…

- Aggregation-disaggregation cycling: A physical strategy for low-viscosity fish protein particles. [Journal Article]Food Chem. 2026 May 03; 517:149487. [Online ahead of print]FC
- The development of low-viscosity, high-concentration protein systems is hindered by shear-thickening behavior arising from intermolecular entanglement. We report a cyclical preheating-ultrasonication strategy that reconstitutes cod protein (CPs) into low-adhesion particles. Pre-heating (100 °C, 10 min) partially unfolds CPs to expose hydrophobic nucleation sites, followed by ultrasonication (400 …

- Injectable alginate hydrogels improve the effects of subretinal hiPSC-derived RPE cell therapy on retinal degeneration in rats. [Journal Article]Mater Today Bio. 2026 Jun; 38:103154.MT
- Subretinal delivery of retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) cells is an important treatment for retinal degeneration patients, and the cell suspension method is the most common approach. Injectable hydrogel-mediated cell engraftment is expected to potentially improve cell transplantation outcomes. Here, alginate hydrogels were used to deliver human-induced pluripotent stem cell (hiPSC)-differentiated…

- Pediatric diamond-blackfan anemia after hematopoietic stem cell transplantation complicated by bronchiolitis obliterans and air-leak syndrome leading to lung transplantation: a case report with multimodal follow-up. [Case Reports]Front Immunol. 2026; 17:1782188.FI
- CONCLUSIONS: This report presents the youngest documented DBA case of successful LTx for BOS complicated by ALS after allo-HSCT globally. It demonstrates that dynamic multimodal monitoring is crucial for early BOS detection. LTx is a viable therapy for end-stage pulmonary cGVHD in children. This case underscores the need for proactive monitoring in high-risk patients and provides a paradigm for managing this complex complication.

- Isolated IgG4-related cholecystitis mimicking locally advanced gallbladder cancer: a case report. [Case Reports]Korean J Clin Oncol. 2026 Apr; 22(1):28-32.KJ
- Immunoglobulin G4 (IgG4)-related disease is a fibroinflammatory condition that can involve multiple organs. Isolated involvement of the gallbladder is exceptionally uncommon and often radiologically indistinguishable from gallbladder carcinoma, resulting in diagnostic uncertainty before surgery. A 77-year-old man presented with right upper abdominal discomfort lasting 1 month. Cross-sectional ima…

- Effect of Intravesical Administration of Steroid Enemas on an Experimental Autoimmune Interstitial Cystitis-Like Mouse Model. [Journal Article]Neurourol Urodyn. 2026 May 07. [Online ahead of print]NU
- CONCLUSIONS: EAIC mice reproduce pathological and functional features of IC/BPS. Intravesical steroid enema administration showed superior anti-inflammatory and functional benefits compared with DMSO, without apparent tissue damage or disease-associated hyperactivity. Although the effectiveness of steroid enemas might be partially influenced by the effect of thickening agents used as enema additives, this approach could represent a practical, patient-friendly therapy for IC/BPS, supporting further preclinical and clinical evaluation.

- Efficacy and safety of non-pharmacological interventions for gastroesophageal reflux and gastroesophageal reflux disease in children: a systematic review. [Review]Ital J Pediatr. 2026 May 07. [Online ahead of print]IJ
- CONCLUSIONS: Thickened formulas and alginates showed the most consistent symptom improvement in infants with GER or GERD, though overall evidence quality was low to moderate. Other interventions yielded mixed results. Non-pharmacological strategies appear generally safe, but further high-quality research is needed to support clinical decision-making.

- A Vein Attempt? Experimental Models for Arteriovenous Fistula Research. [Review]
- CONCLUSIONS: AVF maturation and failure arise from tightly coupled biomechanical and biological interactions, shaped by hemodynamic forces and uremia-related vascular dysfunction. No single experimental platform can encompass this complexity. Progress will depend on systematic comparison of available models and their deliberate integration into a coherent multimodal framework, in which insights from animal studies, computational simulations and in vitro flow systems are used in a complementary manner. Such an approach is essential to identify predictive biomarkers, clarify mechanisms of maladaptive remodeling and guide the rational design of targeted interventions to improve AVF patency and clinical outcomes.

Preoperative evaluation of small intestinal cancer is challenging. The patient was a 52-year-old man who was referred to our hospital with abdominal pain and vomiting, and was diagnosed with small intestinal intussusception. A…
