- Diagnostic performance and safety of image-guided pleural biopsy and medical thoracoscopy for undiagnosed exudative pleural effusion: a systematic review and network meta-analysis. [Systematic Review]Eur Respir Rev. 2026 Apr; 35(180).ER
- CONCLUSIONS: Closed pleural biopsy consistently has a low diagnostic yield and is not recommended as a first-line biopsy method for patients with undiagnosed exudative pleural effusions. Rigid medical thoracoscopy offers distinct clinical value for a complete visual inspection, large biopsies, and potential pleurodesis, particularly in suspected mesothelioma cases. The currently available evidence does not support the routine replacement of semirigid medical thoracoscopy with cryobiopsy. Computed tomography-guided biopsy may be preferred in cases involving thickening ≥10 mm or small target lesions. Conversely, ultrasound-guided biopsy may be appropriate for lesions measuring ≥3 mm with a clear acoustic window. UE-guided pleural biopsy shows promise as an emerging option, although the evidence is limited. In tuberculous pleurisy, medical thoracoscopy may offer higher diagnostic sensitivity in certain settings, particularly in high-prevalence areas. The current evidence is insufficient to establish a clear advantage for any biopsy method regarding the overall complication risk.

- Successful treatment by high dose glucocorticoid of miliary tuberculosis complicated with acute respiratory distress syndrome: a case report. [Journal Article]BMC Infect Dis. 2026 Jun 09. [Online ahead of print]BI
- A 25-year-old previously healthy man presented with a productive cough for 2 months and progressive dyspnea for 1 week. He did not respond to initial anti-infective treatment at a local hospital. Chest computed tomography (CT) demonstrated diffuse miliary nodules, ground-glass opacities throughout both lungs, and bilateral pleural effusion (more prominent on the right). Laboratory tests revealed …

- Frequency and associated factors of hepatic hemangioma in systemic lupus erythematosus patients undergoing abdominal imaging: a retrospective cohort study. [Journal Article]
- Hepatic hemangioma may be detected in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). This study aimed to determine the frequency, radiological characteristics, and potential associated factors of hepatic hemangioma in SLE patients undergoing abdominal imaging. We retrospectively evaluated 221 of 402 SLE patients followed at a tertiary university hospital who underwent abdominal imaging for cli…

- Epidemiological Analysis of Environmental Factors Affecting Porcine Pleuropneumonia in a Herd Endemic for Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae. [Journal Article]Pathogens. 2026 May 11; 15(5).P
- Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae (APP) is the bacterial agent associated with porcine pleuropneumonia, a severe respiratory disease with significant economic impact due to increased mortality and elevated therapeutic costs, whose progression may be exacerbated by environmental factors. This study evaluates the impact of climatic factors, particularly temperature and relative humidity, on mortality…

- Uncovering the Anti-Pleurisy Mechanism of Shizao Decoction via Network Pharmacology and Molecular Docking. [Journal Article]Curr Drug Discov Technol. 2026 May 16. [Online ahead of print]CD
- CONCLUSIONS: The active ingredients of Shizao Decoction exert therapeutic effects on pleurisy by modulating T cell receptor and C-type lectin receptor signaling pathways through key targets (IL-6, TNF, IL-1β, STAT3, IL-2, NFKB1). These ingredients directly regulate pleurisy-specific pathophysiological processes, including pleural capillary permeability, inflammatory cell infiltration, and effusion formation, participate in immune responses, and exert anti-inflammatory and antiviral effects. The findings not only clarify the therapeutic mechanism of Shizao Decoction for pleurisy but also provide a theoretical basis for its clinical application and the development of new therapeutic strategies for pleurisy.

- A 49-year-old male presented with acute dyspnea and hydropneumothorax. Imaging and biopsy confirmed pleural tuberculosis. Despite atypical features and no risk factors, anti-tuberculosis therapy led to rapid improvement. This case highlights the diagnostic challenge of distinguishing tuberculosis-related hydropneumothorax from necrotizing bacterial pneumonia and empyema in the presence of complex…

- Organizing Pleuritis Presenting as Recurrent Lymphocyte Predominant, Exudative Effusion. [Journal Article]Perm J. 2026 May 14; :1-5. [Online ahead of print]PJ
- Long-standing pleural effusions may rarely progress to pleural fibrosis, and when no identifiable etiology is present, this entity is termed cryptogenic fibrosing pleuritis (also referred to as organizing pleuritis, fibrous pleurisy, or fibrosing pleurisy). This condition is characterized by persistent exudative effusions and progressive pleural thickening, often leading to diagnostic uncertainty…

- A 72-year-old man developed Aspergillus infection within a postoperative thoracic cavity after lobectomy. Imaging showed cavity wall thickening with bronchopleural communication. Fenestration revealed characteristic purulent pleural debris and fungal masses. This case highlights Aspergillus pleurisy as a postoperative complication.
