- CURB-65 for community-acquired pneumonia severity using severity index. [Journal Article]Bioinformation. 2026; 22(2):789-793.B
- Critical pulmonary embolism (CAP) demands precise risk stratification tools for optimal resource allocation and treatment site decisions. Therefore, it is of interest to compare CURB-65 versus Pneumonia Severity Index (PSI) in 320 CAP patients for predicting 30-day mortality and ICU needs. PSI demonstrated superior sensitivity (92.5% vs 78.0%) and mortality AUC (0.84 vs 0.79). CURB-65 offered hig…

- Community-acquired Pneumonia in Bangladeshi Children Under Five: Pathogen Prevalence, Resistance Trends, and Diagnostic Biomarkers. [Journal Article]Pediatr Infect Dis J. 2026 May 11. [Online ahead of print]PI
- CONCLUSIONS: Our findings highlight the current epidemiology of childhood CAP in Dhaka, Bangladesh, identifying high antimicrobial resistance and predominance of non-pneumococcal conjugate vaccine-10 serotypes. These results underscore the need for continued pneumococcal surveillance to guide vaccine and treatment strategies and strengthened approaches for addressing antimicrobial resistance.

- CONCLUSIONS: CA-BSI in older adults is associated with high mortality. Outcomes are driven by comorbidity burden, functional status, infection severity, and causative pathogen, highlighting the need for early risk stratification and tailored management.

- Increased detection rate of macrolide-resistant Mycoplasma pneumoniae during the Mycoplasma pneumoniae epidemic in children: A multi-campus hospital retrospective study in Guangzhou, 2023-2024. [Journal Article]Int J Med Microbiol. 2026 May 05; 322:151716. [Online ahead of print]IJ
- CONCLUSIONS: We reported that during the epidemic period of MP in children, the MRMP positive rate remained persistently high across all age groups in a cohort comprising both outpatients and inpatients. Among hospitalized children with MPP, those with MRMP detection, co-infection with other respiratory pathogens, or underlying comorbidities were more likely to develop severe conditions. These findings suggest that monitoring MRMP in children at potential high risk, particularly those who requiring hospitalization, may be essential for the development of effective prevention and treatment strategies.

- CONCLUSIONS: For critically and noncritically ill hospitalized patients with COVID-19, ivermectin was unlikely to improve the primary composite outcome of organ support-free days and hospital survival.

- Predicting length of hospital stay in community-acquired pneumonia using clinical and treatment factors: a retrospective study with restricted cubic spline and piecewise regression analysis. [Journal Article]Front Public Health. 2026; 14:1768432.FP
- CONCLUSIONS: Multiple clinical and treatment-related factors were associated with LOS in CAP. Antibiotic duration showed a pronounced non-linear pattern, with treatment beyond 1 week linked to markedly longer hospitalization. These findings may help identify patients at risk of prolonged LOS and support more efficient clinical decision-making.

- Adjunctive betamethasone treatment of hypoxaemic adults hospitalised with Mycoplasma pneumoniae community-acquired pneumonia: an open-label, multicentre, randomised, controlled trial. [Journal Article]Lancet Reg Health Eur. 2026 May; 64:101610.LR
- Adjunctive corticosteroid therapy appears to be beneficial for adults with severe community-acquired pneumonia (CAP), but data on Mycoplasma pneumoniae CAP are limited. This study aimed to evaluate if adjunctive betamethasone reduced time to resolution of hypoxaemia in adults hospitalised with M. pneumoniae CAP.

- Rapid Detection of Hypervirulent Klebsiella pneumoniae by Multiplex PCR and Nucleic Acid Chromatography: Evaluation of Diagnostic Performance and Clinical Utility. [Journal Article]Cureus. 2026 Apr; 18(4):e106309.C
- CONCLUSIONS: HvKp-associated genes can be detected more rapidly by combining multiplex PCR with nucleic acid chromatography than by conventional gel electrophoresis-based methods. This approach also demonstrated high sensitivity and may be helpful for potential clinical risk assessment of hvKp infections.

- Effectiveness of amoxicillin and amoxicillin-clavulanate for the treatment of community-acquired pneumonia in adults and children: a systematic review and meta-analysis. [Systematic Review]BMJ Open. 2026 May 07; 16(5):e112219.BO
- CONCLUSIONS: Current evidence is unclear as to whether amoxicillin or amoxicillin-clavulanate differs from other antibiotics, or from each other, in the treatment of community-acquired pneumonia, owing to the small number of trials and substantial heterogeneity in comparators used across study settings.

- Although the 2016 American Thoracic Society/Infectious Diseases of America (ATS/IDSA) guidelines recommend a 7-day antibiotic course for hospital-acquired and ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP), recent trials have challenged this recommendation, particularly for VAP caused by P. aeruginosa. The objective of this study is to provide insights into the optimal duration of antibiotic therapy for V…

- Community-acquired carbapenem-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii pneumonia in an elderly woman with chronic kidney disease: A case report. [Case Reports]IDCases. 2026; 44:e02584.I
- Carbapenem-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii (CRAB) is a major cause of hospital-acquired infections but is rarely implicated in community-acquired pneumonia (CAP). We report the case of a 79-year-old woman with stage 3 chronic kidney disease who presented with severe CAP and respiratory failure. Bronchoscopy with bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) identified CRAB sensitive to tobramycin and levofloxac…

- Serotype distribution and coverage by pneumococcal vaccines in hospitalised adults with pneumococcal pneumonia in Germany. [Journal Article]ERJ Open Res. 2026 May; 12(3).EO
- CONCLUSIONS: Among adults hospitalised with CAP in Germany, S. pneumoniae was detected in 13% of cases by SSUAD assays. While the findings suggest that V116 may offer broader serotype coverage compared with PCV20, these differences were not statistically significant.
