- Sonographic Assessments to Consider in Future Studies about Crystal-related Arthritis. [Journal Article]J Med Ultrasound. 2026 Jan-Mar; 34(1):96-98.JM
- CONCLUSIONS: Studies to determine the usefulness of MicroPure, the minimal-crystal distance, and the quantitative echogenicity in crystal-induced arthritis are needed. "Triple-contour" sign should be considered as the best image in the screening of patients with suspected mixed-crystal arthritis by gout and chondrocalcinosis.

- Diuretic-Induced Hypomagnesemia May Play a Key Role in the Development of Calcium Pyrophosphate Arthritis. [Journal Article]Rheumatol Ther. 2026 Mar 25. [Online ahead of print]RT
- CONCLUSIONS: Patients with CPP crystal deposition disease (CPPD) showed lower magnesium levels and higher rate of hypomagnesemia than controls, and were prescribed almost twice as many diuretics. Both classes of diuretics were associated with lower magnesium levels and clinical significant hypomagnesemia. Thiazides induced hypomagnesemia more frequently than loop diuretics, showing dose-dependent association.

- Etiologies of Wrist Arthritis in the Young Patient. [Review]Hand Clin. 2026 May; 42(2):117-127.HC
- Most young patients with wrist arthritis will present with a history of trauma as their inciting event. Common causes of wrist arthritis in young patients are intercalated segment pathologies such as scapholunate advanced collapse and scaphoid nonunion advanced collapse, postdistal radius fracture arthritis, and pisotriquetral arthritis. Less common causes of wrist arthritis in young patient are …

- Superior Capsular Reconstruction With Acellular Dermal Allograft Improves Midterm Clinical Outcomes but Is Associated With High Rates of Graft Failure and Progression of Cuff Tear Arthropathy. [Journal Article]Arthroscopy. 2026 Feb; 42(2):412-420.A
- CONCLUSIONS: Arthroscopic SCR with acellular dermal allograft substantially improves patient-reported outcomes at midterm follow-up, with a low overall reoperation rate. However, structural deterioration, including decreased acromiohumeral distance and a high graft failure rate, suggests that SCR may not significantly alter the natural history of massive rotator cuff tears.

- Polymyalgia Rheumatica. [Review]
- Polymyalgia rheumatica is an inflammatory condition that affects persons older than 50 years of age and is characterized by pain in both shoulders with or without hip or neck pain (or both) and with pronounced morning stiffness. The condition is typically diagnosed on the basis of these hallmark symptoms along with elevated inflammation markers (erythrocyte sedimentation rate and C-reactive prote…

- Serum β-hydroxybutyrate as a diagnostic biomarker distinguishing acute calcium pyrophosphate crystal arthritis from rheumatoid arthritis. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: BHB is a potential diagnostic biomarker for distinguishing acute CPP crystal arthritis from RA. These findings highlight the potential of metabolomic analysis as a non-invasive diagnostic approach for CPP crystal deposition disease. Key Points • Serum metabolomic profiling identified distinct metabolic signatures distinguishing acute CPP crystal arthritis from rheumatoid arthritis. • β-Hydroxybutyrate was a potential differential biomarker between acute CPP crystal arthritis and RA. • Alterations in ketone body metabolism may contribute to crystal-induced inflammation.

- Organ-on-a-chip systems for osteochondral units: unveiling biomechanical and pathological mechanisms. [Review]Biofabrication. 2026 Mar 12; 18(2).B
- With the establishment of key principles governing osteochondral structure, function, and reconstruction, researchers have gained an expanded toolkit for the precisein-vitroreconstruction of osteochondral tissues. As a convergence of tissue engineering and microphysiological modeling, the biomechanical heterogeneity of the osteochondral layers, which is critical to joint function, can be precisel…

- Background and Objectives: Knee osteoarthritis (OA) is a leading cause of pain and disability, with radiographic severity influenced by age, biomechanical alignment, and structural joint features. Data describing the association between common radiographic parameters and OA severity in Eastern European clinical populations remain limited. This study aimed to evaluate the associations between radi…

- External validation of the proposed diagnostic criteria for hypophosphatasia in adults of a Spanish cohort. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: HPP criteria show high sensitivity and specificity, supporting their clinical utility. Diagnostic performance is optimal when biochemical and genetic data are available. In settings lacking access to genetic testing or substrates, sensitivity is notably reduced despite preserved specificity, and clinical features alone provide limited discriminative value.

- Evaluation of crystal-related arthritis in patients with knee effusion: insights from ultrasonography, microscopy and radiography. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: A notable 17.6% CPPD prevalence in patients with knee effusion suggests that this condition may be underestimated in practice due to diagnostic challenges. Ultrasound showed higher sensitivity than radiography, and specificity increased in parallel with the number of positive findings. Key Points • In detecting CPPD, ultrasound has higher sensitivity than radiography and specificity increases in parallel with the number of positive findings. • Ultrasound may provide additional diagnostic value when crystal detection with microscopic analysis is challenging.

- Gouty Arthritis Versus Chondrocalcinosis in a Stiff Knee, A Diagnostic Dilemma - A Case Report. [Case Reports]
- CONCLUSIONS: Isolated tophaceous gout of the knee is rare; a strong index of suspicion is necessary to come to a diagnosis. MRI and arthroscopy findings can be deceiving; hence, histopathology and synovial fluid analysis are necessary to confirm the diagnosis. The arthroscopic management can yield good clinical outcomes.

- Total shoulder arthroplasty preoperative planning: Does the patient's arm position in the CT-scan affect posterior humeral head subluxation? [Journal Article]Orthop Traumatol Surg Res. 2026 May; 112(3):104635.OT
- CONCLUSIONS: Posterior humeral head subluxation is significantly influenced by patient posture during scanning, particularly sensitive to changes in flexion and internal rotation which tend to decrease subluxation more than abduction does; however, these alterations remain minimal at about ±1-2%.
