- Co-occurrence of rheumatoid arthritis and calcium pyrophosphate deposition disease: A systematic literature review. [Review]Semin Arthritis Rheum. 2026 Jul 29; 80:153047. [Online ahead of print]SA
- CONCLUSIONS: While the studies were small, RA, which is commonly seronegative, and CPPD can co-exist in the elderly. Higher-quality studies are required to determine the prevalence of co-existent RA and CPPD, thereby improving insight into the epidemiology and potentially enhancing outcomes of these patients.

- Unilateral Biportal Endoscopic Resection of the Posterior Arch of the Atlas for Crowned Dens Syndrome. [Case Reports]Am J Case Rep. 2026 Jul 31; 27:e953125.AJ
- BACKGROUND Crowned dens syndrome (CDS) is a rare disorder caused by calcium pyrophosphate deposition around the odontoid process. Although most patients respond favorably to conservative management, some develop refractory myelopathy requiring surgical intervention. We present a minimally invasive surgical technique for CDS complicated by spinal cord compression. CASE REPORT An 86-year-old woman …

- Prevalence of Radiographic Knee and Wrist Chondrocalcinosis in Adana Province, Türkiye: A Hospital-Based Retrospective Study. [Journal Article]Arch Rheumatol. 2026 Apr 10; 41(3):193-200.AR
- CONCLUSIONS: The prevalence of radiographically detected knee and wrist CC in the Turkish population has not yet been reported. These findings emphasize the need for clinical research that could increase awareness and advance knowledge of the relationship between CC and possible risk factors in Türkiye. - Colchicine in crystal synovitis and beyond. [Review]Clin Exp Rheumatol. 2026 Jul; 44(7):1297-1305.CE
- Colchicine is an ancient drug that remains a cornerstone in the management of crystal-induced inflammatory diseases, particularly gout and calcium pyrophosphate crystal disease (CPPD). Its clinical use is supported by well-established pharmacological and mechanistic evidences, mainly derived from experimental studies. Colchicine interferes with microtubule-dependent cellular functions, inhibits n…

- Chondrocalcinosis and the haemochromatosis-linked HFE C282Y homozygous variant in the UK Biobank. [Journal Article]EULAR Rheumatol Open. 2026 Mar; 2(1):1-8.ER
- CONCLUSIONS: In this community-genotyped sample, male C282Y homozygotes had markedly increased odds of knee chondrocalcinosis. Evaluation of serum ferritin levels to identify possible haemochromatosis may be justified in knee chondrocalcinosis management.

- Clinical and imaging features of haemochromatosis arthropathy: a systematic literature review and meta-analysis to inform the development of EULAR classification criteria. [Journal Article]EULAR Rheumatol Open. 2025 Oct; 1(3):260-268.ER
- CONCLUSIONS: Our systematic literature review identified characteristic clinical and imaging patterns of HA joint involvement. However, due to the high heterogeneity and low number of studies suitable for analysis, the meaningfulness of the data is limited.

- The OMERACT core domain sets for calcium pyrophosphate deposition disease. [Journal Article]Semin Arthritis Rheum. 2026 Aug; 79:153014.SA
- CONCLUSIONS: These core domains provide a foundation for future clinical trials and longitudinal studies in CPPD by defining the minimum outcomes that should be assessed and reported to ensure relevance and comparability across studies.

- Gout, Hyperuricemia and Crystal-Associated Disease Network (G-CAN) consensus statement regarding labels and definitions for disease elements in calcium pyrophosphate crystal deposition (CPPD). [Journal Article]Ann Rheum Dis. 2026 Jun 09. [Online ahead of print]AR
- CONCLUSIONS: This G-CAN nomenclature is the first systematic effort to align CPPD terminology with contemporary biological and imaging evidence. By resolving longstanding ambiguities-particularly regarding 'chondrocalcinosis'-it provides a framework for consistent research definitions, clinical trial homogeneity, and improved patient care.

- Sonographic Assessments to Consider in Future Studies about Crystal-related Arthritis. [Journal Article]J Med Ultrasound. 2026 Jan-Mar; 34(1):96-98.JM
- CONCLUSIONS: Studies to determine the usefulness of MicroPure, the minimal-crystal distance, and the quantitative echogenicity in crystal-induced arthritis are needed. "Triple-contour" sign should be considered as the best image in the screening of patients with suspected mixed-crystal arthritis by gout and chondrocalcinosis.

- An analysis of 10 years of synovial fluid crystal external quality assurance data. [Journal Article]Pathology. 2026 Jun; 58(4):463-467.P
- Definitive diagnosis of gout relies on the identification of monosodium urate (MSU) crystals in synovial fluid. This process has confounders, including differentiating different crystal types, which require a high level of skill and relevant equipment. The Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia Quality Assurance Programs has provided a synovial fluid crystal identification external quality …

- Prevalence and risk factors for stem subsidence following reverse shoulder arthroplasty using on-lay press-fit short stems. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Subsidence occurred in 13.2% of patients following RSA with press-fit short stems. A lower FRmet (< 70%) and osteoporosis were significant predictors of subsidence. Achieving an FRmet ≥ 70% may reduce this risk, while cemented stems could be preferable for patients with osteoporosis.

- Diuretic-Induced Hypomagnesemia May Play a Key Role in the Development of Calcium Pyrophosphate Arthritis. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Patients with CPP crystal deposition disease (CPPD) showed lower magnesium levels and higher rate of hypomagnesemia than controls, and were prescribed almost twice as many diuretics. Both classes of diuretics were associated with lower magnesium levels and clinical significant hypomagnesemia. Thiazides induced hypomagnesemia more frequently than loop diuretics, showing dose-dependent association.
