- Blepharoptosis after Modern Phacoemulsification Cataract Surgery: Incidence, Risk Factors and Underlying Mechanisms. [Journal Article]J Cataract Refract Surg. 2026 Jun 16. [Online ahead of print]JC
- CONCLUSIONS: Postoperative ptosis following modern cataract surgery has a low but not negligible incidence. Preoperative eyelid characteristics and the type of anaesthesia may influence its occurrence. Postoperative ptosis should be routinely discussed during preoperative counselling.

- Catastrophic Pediatric Stroke Following Attempted Transcatheter Ventricular Septal Defect Closure. [Case Reports]JACC Case Rep. 2026 Jun 17; :108786. [Online ahead of print]JC
- CONCLUSIONS: Thromboembolism related to subtherapeutic anticoagulation, contrast-related neurotoxicity, and patient vulnerability in the setting of procedural complexity were considered the most plausible mechanism.Strict anticoagulation monitoring, appropriate heparin dosing, careful contrast selection, and thoughtful patient selection are essential to improve the safety of pediatric transcatheter interventions.

- Advances in surgical treatment for valvular heart disease: a narrative review of 2025 studies. [Review]J Thorac Dis. 2026 May 31; 18(5):550.JT
- CONCLUSIONS: The 2025 evidence reinforces a paradigm shift from risk-score-based decision-making toward individualized valve care. Transcatheter techniques have expanded their indications, but surgery remains irreplaceable in young, low-risk, and BAV patients, as well as in degenerative MR. Real-world gaps in guideline adherence, delayed referral, and suboptimal repair rates require urgent attention. Emerging technologies show early promise, although their long term durability and clinical value await further validation.

- Incarcerated Rectal Prolapse Secondary to Rectal Adenomatous Polyposis: A Case Report. [Case Reports]Cureus. 2026 May; 18(5):e108985.C
- Incarcerated or strangulated prolapsed rectal polyps are an incredibly rare phenomenon, seldom reported in the literature. Given the overall low incidence of rectal prolapse, these instances in which polyposis - a relatively common condition - progress and become emergent are clinically significant. We present a case of a 49-year-old with an acutely incarcerated rectal prolapse of dysplastic vill…

- Association Between Advanced Age and Perioperative Complications Among Women Operated for Pelvic Organ Prolapse in Urogynecology Camps in Uganda. [Journal Article]Cureus. 2026 May; 18(5):e108822.C
- CONCLUSIONS: Advanced age was not associated with perioperative complications. We recommend that surgery be offered as a viable option to elderly women with POP in urogynecological surgical camps and enhanced recovery after surgery measures be implemented by POP surgeons.

- Seeing the Unseen: A Rare Ocular Complication of Tuberculous Meningoencephalitis. [Case Reports]Cureus. 2026 May; 18(5):e108975.C
- Tuberculous meningitis (TBM) is the most severe form of central nervous system (CNS) tuberculosis and carries significant morbidity, particularly when diagnosis is delayed. Cranial nerve involvement is a recognized complication, most frequently affecting the abducens nerve (CN VI); bilateral oculomotor nerve (CN III) palsy, however, is exceedingly rare and typically signifies pathology at the lev…

- Safety of Augmentation Mastopexy in a Teaching Environment: Complication Analysis. [Journal Article]Aesthet Surg J Open Forum. 2026; 8:ojag090.AS
- CONCLUSIONS: Within a structured academic program with direct attending supervision, augmentation mastopexy can be safely performed by residents, achieving complication rates comparable to published data. These findings support the role of supervised augmentation mastopexy as a valuable component of plastic surgery training.

- Escalation to transplantation in refractory stone heart syndrome: a case report of advanced mechanical circulatory support failure. [Case Reports]J Cardiothorac Surg. 2026 Jun 16; 21(1).JC
- CONCLUSIONS: Acute terminal heart failure due to perioperative stone heart is rare. In cases of irreversible global myocardial injury, orthotopic heart transplantation remains the only curative treatment option.

- Cystic degeneration of pleomorphic adenoma of the lacrimal gland: a diagnostic dilemma. [Case Reports]BMJ Case Rep. 2026 Jun 16; 19(6).BC
- Pleomorphic adenoma of the lacrimal gland is a benign epithelial neoplasm and can rarely undergo cystic degeneration, mimicking other conditions with similar radiological findings. It commonly presents as a slow growing, painless mass in the outer upper eyelid, characterised by exophthalmos, ptosis, diplopia and reduced ocular movements. Here, we present one such case of a male in his mid-30s pre…

- CONCLUSIONS: RASC is a safe and reliable alternative to the conventional LSC approach for POP management. The choice of surgical approach should be guided by the surgeon's preference and expertise. Further prospective randomized trials are required to comprehensively evaluate all aspects of POP management.

- Recurrent UTI in Women: Diagnosis and Management. [Review]Am Fam Physician. 2026 Jun; 113(6):568-577.AF
- Recurrent urinary tract infection (UTI) is defined as two or more UTIs within 6 months or three or more within 1 year. The annual recurrence rate of UTI in women is approximately 14% to 25%. Risk factors for recurrent UTI include antimicrobial exposures, more frequent sexual activity, use of spermicidal agents or diaphragms, peri- or postmenopausal status, personal hygiene practices, urinary stas…
- Delirium After Prolapse Surgery Increases Complications: National Cohort Study. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: POD is associated with an increased odds of postoperative AEs in older women undergoing prolapse surgery. These findings support the incorporation of POD and associated risks into perioperative counseling for older adults undergoing reconstructive pelvic surgery.

- Clinically Significant Occult Uterine and Cervical Pathology in Women Undergoing Minimally Invasive Sacrocolpopexy With Concomitant Total Hysterectomy: A Retrospective Consecutive Case Series. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Minimally invasive sacrocolpopexy with concomitant total hysterectomy revealed a clinically meaningful rate of occult premalignant or malignant uterine and cervical pathology, despite the absence of preoperative abnormal uterine bleeding. These data should inform shared decision making in women considering abdominal mesh-based repair for uterine prolapse.

- Real-time transesophageal echocardiography-guided surgical resection of hepatocellular carcinoma with inferior vena cava tumor thrombus: a case report. [Case Reports]AME Case Rep. 2026; 10:115.AC
- CONCLUSIONS: This case highlights the value of anesthesiologist-led intraoperative TEE in complex oncovascular surgery. Continuous TEE guidance facilitated key vascular maneuvers, supported real-time intraoperative decision-making, and enabled early recognition of a potentially life-threatening complication. TEE should be considered an important intraoperative navigation tool in high-risk HCC thrombectomy.

- Improved Pelvic Support and Urinary Symptoms Following Apical Mesh Reinforcement with a Partially Absorbable Lightweight Polypropylene Mini Mesh for Advanced Pelvic Organ Prolapse. [Journal Article]Isr Med Assoc J. 2026 Jan; 28(1):34-39.IM
- CONCLUSIONS: Transvaginal repair with the Seratom PA MR MN® partially absorbable mini mesh demonstrated significant improvements in anatomical and subjective outcomes, with few complications, and low recurrence rates. Further studies are necessary to validate these outcomes and optimize patient selection.
