- Patterns in Outpatient Emergency Ocular Care for Incarcerated Individuals: A Tertiary Center Experience. [Journal Article]J Correct Health Care. 2026 Aug 18; :10783458261477066. [Online ahead of print]JC
- Despite well-documented barriers to ophthalmic services, ophthalmic care delivery among incarcerated populations remains understudied. This prospective observational study aimed to characterize ophthalmic referral patterns, triage timelines, and follow-up attendance among incarcerated individuals referred to a tertiary eye care center (July 1, 2024 to July 1, 2025). On-call ophthalmology resident…

- Candidate Right Locus Coeruleus-Centered Symptom Pathways in Young Major Depressive Disorder: A Multimodal Magnetic Resonance Imaging Study. [Journal Article]Hum Brain Mapp. 2026 Aug 15; 47(12):e70632.HB
- Major depressive disorder (MDD) involves network-level abnormalities that may reflect dysfunction in catecholaminergic nuclei, particularly the substantia nigra (SN) and locus coeruleus (LC), which regulate cortical gain and signal-to-noise ratio. However, whether MRI-derived SN/LC phenotypes are linked to depressive symptom severity through functional connectivity pathways in young individuals w…

- GLP-1RAs Use and Postoperative Outcomes in T2DM Patients Undergoing Radical Nephrectomy. [Journal Article]Clin Genitourin Cancer. 2026 Jul 25; :102630. [Online ahead of print]CG
- CONCLUSIONS: Our study parallels ongoing studies examining the broader benefits of GLP-1RA use, demonstrating a decreased incidence of 90-day postoperative ileus and arrhythmia, as well as improved overall survival. Prospective studies are warranted to validate these findings.

- Outcomes of a physiotherapy performed trauma tertiary survey role on a dedicated trauma ward in a Level 1 trauma service. [Journal Article]Injury. 2026 Aug 12; :113591. [Online ahead of print]I
- CONCLUSIONS: Physiotherapy performed TTS significantly improved timeliness and efficiency of TTS completion without compromising safety or quality. This shared care model supports workload demand, timely injury detection and patient care in busy trauma services.

- Association Between Perioperative Use of Fourth- Versus First-Generation Cephalosporins and Early Bacterial Infections, Chronic Lung Allograft Dysfunction-Free Survival, and 1- and 5-Year Survival: A Cohort Study. [Journal Article]Transplant Proc. 2026 Aug 18. [Online ahead of print]TP
- CONCLUSIONS: Our findings suggest that perioperative fourth-generation cephalosporin use may effectively prevent early bacterial infections and subsequent decline in pulmonary function, improving CLAD-free survival and 1- and 5-year survival compared with first-generation cephalosporin use.

- Sliding windows technique for the approach to the orbit and lateral sphenoid recess. [Journal Article]Eur Ann Otorhinolaryngol Head Neck Dis. 2026 Aug 18. [Online ahead of print]EA
- The endoscopic endonasal approach to the orbit or the lateral recess of the sphenoid may require passing instruments through a transfixing trans-septal corridor to obtain an adequate working angle. However, this maneuver incurs non-negligible morbidity, with septal perforation, synechia and olfactory disorder. The "sliding windows" technique aims to reconcile optimal exposure with mucosal preserv…

- Rome V global epidemiology and validation survey: prevalence of disorders of gut-brain interaction and comparison with the Rome IV global epidemiology study. [Journal Article]Gut. 2026 Aug 18. [Online ahead of print]Gut
- CONCLUSIONS: The Rome V global prevalence of DGBI is consistent with Rome IV. This bolsters confidence in the validity of prevalence rates for DGBI and reaffirms their high global burden.

- Neuronal Ddit4 overexpression in the medial prefrontal cortex reduces synaptic density and impairs cognitive function in mice. [Journal Article]eNeuro. 2026 Aug 18. [Online ahead of print]E
- Chronic stress exposure causes neurobiological and behavioral changes that resemble those reported in psychiatric conditions such as major depressive disorder (MDD). Preclinical stress models and studies using postmortem tissue from MDD patients have shown that DNA Damage-Inducible Transcript 4 (Ddit4) is increased in the prefrontal cortex (PFC). This is important because DDIT4 negatively regulat…

- Exosome therapy for knee osteoarthritis: a network meta-analysis based on rat models. [Journal Article]Stem Cells Transl Med. 2026 Aug 18; 15(9).SC
- CONCLUSIONS: Current evidence from rat models suggests that exosome therapy may substantially ameliorate the pathological progression of KOA, with exosomes derived from early developmental tissues, particularly hAFSCs-Exo and hUCMSCs-Exo, showing favorable chondroprotective and anti-inflammatory effects in the probabilistic ranking when administered at high doses. Nevertheless, the findings from publication bias and trim-and-fill analyses indicate that the existing effect sizes are likely overestimated. These results require confirmation in larger-scale, methodologically more rigorous preclinical studies.

- Photobiomodulation for traumatic brain injury. [Review]Int Rev Neurobiol. 2026; 189:105-139.IR
- There is a notable lack of therapeutic alternatives for what is fast becoming a global epidemic of traumatic brain injury (TBI). Photobiomodulation (PBM) employs red or near-infrared (NIR) light (600-1300 nm) from lasers or LEDs to stimulate healing, protect tissue from dying, increase mitochondrial function, improve blood flow and tissue oxygenation. PBM can also act to reduce swelling, increase…

- CONCLUSIONS: Most ACR/CHEST first-line recommended therapies for RA-ILD treatment were infrequently used among VA patients with RA-ILD between 2006 and 2021. These findings illustrate real-world use of RA-ILD therapies and suggest that treatment decisions in RA-ILD are guided by many factors in addition to ILD severity.

- Differences in the Plasma Bile Acid-Gut Microbiota Axis Between IBS-D and IBS-C. [Journal Article]J Gastroenterol Hepatol. 2026 Aug 18. [Online ahead of print]JG
- CONCLUSIONS: Alterations in the bile acid-gut microbiota axis are closely related to the distinct clinical presentations of IBS-C and IBS-D. IBS-D is characterized by a decreased abundance of Ruminococcus and Clostridium, alongside increased bile acid secretion and reduced reabsorption, which primarily contribute to the observed differences.
