  • CONCLUSIONS: The COVID-19 pandemic was temporally associated with significant and sustained population-level improvements in IDSHL, particularly for pandemic-relevant knowledge and behaviors. However, gains were time-sensitive and not uniform across all disease domains or demographic groups. These findings underscore the need for postpandemic health strategies that reinforce comprehensive IDSHL through sustained education and address digital divides to bridge persistent equity gaps. Policymakers should prioritize low digital-literacy populations through hybrid (offline+online) educational interventions, and sustain routine surveillance of IDSHL to detect declines in nonpandemic disease knowledge. This study is the first to document six-year population-level IDSHL trends across the full pandemic cycle, providing evidence for future crisis communication and routine health promotion.
  • Digital Health Communication Engagement Experiences of Older Adults in Community Contexts: Qualitative Systematic Review and Meta-Ethnography. [Systematic Review]

  • CONCLUSIONS: This meta-ethnography treats community-based digital health communication as a communicative practice in its own right. It reframes the community not as a setting in which communication occurs but as a determinant of whether it works and characterizes engagement as an evolving negotiation of motivation, trust, and responsibility. Findings argue for moving beyond efficiency-oriented service delivery toward building community capacity and supporting older adults' autonomy and digital health literacy. Twelve out of 14 studies were of moderate quality, and eligibility was limited to Chinese- or English-language abstracts, which may limit representativeness.

  • CONCLUSIONS: The study highlights the potential of AI and barriers to women's acceptability and engagement. While women recognized the potential for AI to fill health care gaps in infant feeding support, including after business hours, there was less interest in AI replacing "in-person" support or information easily located via online search. Women's concerns regarding the credibility and trustworthiness of AI-enabled support should be addressed to maximize their use of emerging AI-enabled tools, embedded within digital technologies and mHealth. There is potential for AI to complement rather than replace usual care.

  • CONCLUSIONS: Virtual emergency care demonstrates strong and consistent cost-effectiveness across diverse clinical conditions, populations, and health care settings. The evidence particularly supports implementation for stroke care, pediatric emergencies, and rural/remote populations where transfer avoidance drives substantial economic benefits. All evaluated modalities achieved favorable economic outcomes, suggesting technology should match context rather than maximize sophistication. These findings provide robust economic justification for expanding virtual emergency care access and removing regulatory barriers. As health care systems face mounting pressures from aging populations, workforce shortages, and budget constraints, virtual emergency care offers a proven strategy for improving access and quality while reducing costs.

  • CONCLUSIONS: By systematically mapping interventions across patient, institutional, and health system levels, this review will clarify the clinical effectiveness, ethical boundaries, and logistical implementation factors of psychiatric AI tools. Ultimately, these consolidated insights will provide an evidence-based foundation to inform clinical guidelines; governance frameworks; and the design of proactive, learning mental health systems.
  • Symptom Tracking for Patient-Reported Outcomes in Cancer: User-Centered Design of the AthenaCompanion Web Application. [Journal Article]

  • CONCLUSIONS: Using a multiphase, mixed methods, user-centered design process, we developed AthenaCompanion (Northwestern University with The Ohio State University), a gamified web application for PRO monitoring tailored to older adults undergoing cancer treatment. Across surveys and interviews, patients emphasized the importance of clinical utility, clarity of symptom feedback, and low-pressure, optional gamification elements. This work demonstrates the feasibility of integrating gamification into PRO monitoring and provides a foundation for future work evaluating long-term usability, engagement, and clinical effectiveness in real-world oncology care.
