- Fertility and Birth Outcomes in Rheumatoid Arthritis: A Narrative Review. [Review]Rheumatol Ther. 2026 Aug 20. [Online ahead of print]RT
- Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a systemic rheumatic disease that often impacts women of childbearing age. Women and men with RA experience higher rates of subfertility compared to the general population. Disease activity, treatment, psychosocial concerns, and sexual dysfunction contribute to subfertility, delayed childbearing, and reduced family size in the RA population. Assisted reproductive tech…

- GPER in murine astrocytes and mural cells promotes neurovascular coupling and Aβ clearance. [Journal Article]Res Sq. 2026 Jul 30.RS
- Alzheimer's disease (AD) affects aged women more than men. The precipitous drop in sex hormone levels in postmenopausal women likely contributes to such sexual dimorphism, with emerging evidence implicating the G protein-coupled estrogen receptor (GPER) as a modulator of AD pathology and cognitive impairments. However, the underlying mechanism remains unknown. GPER is distinctively expressed in k…

- Sexual dimorphism in the liver. [Review]Nat Rev Gastroenterol Hepatol. 2026 Aug 19. [Online ahead of print]NR
- Sexual dimorphism, which is defined as systematic differences between male and female individuals not limited to characteristics related to reproduction, has been recognized in many organ systems and is emerging as an important component of hepatic function in health and disease. Oestrogen is considered the predominant driver of sexual dimorphism in the liver. Other molecular mechanisms independe…

- Evaluation of sexual function according to age in women referred to urogynaecology clinics. [Journal Article]Post Reprod Health. 2026 Aug 19; :1-10. [Online ahead of print]PR
- CONCLUSIONS: Sexual activity declines with increasing age but this is not associated with increased sexual dysfunction scores in those who remain sexually active. Impaired sexual function is more commonly reported in women aged 40-60, likely reflecting the impact of the menopause. Further research is required to better understand reasons for cessation of sexual activity and identify patients who have treatable causes of sexual dysfunction.

- Pelvic floor symptoms, sexual dysfunction, low back pain, and health-related quality of life among pregnant women: a cross-sectional study. [Journal Article]Women Health. 2026 Aug 18; :1-13. [Online ahead of print]WH
- Although lumbopelvic disorders are common during pregnancy, evidence regarding their impact on health-related quality of life (HRQoL) remains limited. This study therefore aimed to assess the associations between urinary incontinence, fecal incontinence, constipation, sexual dysfunction, low back pain, and HRQoL during pregnancy. Analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) models and multivariate linear regr…

- SEXATURN: sexual function of patients with Turner syndrome compared to that of women with premature ovarian insufficiency. [Journal Article]
- Reduced sexual activity has been reported in women with Turner syndrome (TS), a chromosomal disorder frequently associated with premature ovarian insufficiency (POI), but data on sexual function and its qualitative aspects remain limited. Furthermore, few studies have compared sexual function of women with TS to that of women with POI from other etiologies (non-TS POI). Our aim was to assess sexu…

- Can Glucagon-Like Peptide-1 Receptor Agonists or Sodium-Glucose Cotransporter 2 Inhibitors Be Considered New Treatment Options for Male Hypogonadism and Sexual Dysfunction? [Review]World J Mens Health. 2026 Aug 06. [Online ahead of print]WJ
- The use of glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP1-RAs) and sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitors (SGLT2is) resulted in weight loss and long-term cardiovascular (CV) and renal safety preservation. Their role in male sexual hormones and behavior is still not sufficiently investigated. This paper aims at summarizing the effects of GLP1-RA and SGLT2i on obesity-associated hypogonadism an…

- Plant-derived bioactives in depression-related and antidepressant-associated sexual dysfunction: a narrative review. [Review]
- Sexual dysfunction related to depression and antidepressant treatment is clinically important yet underrecognized, affecting adherence, intimate functioning and quality of life. Depression can impair desire, arousal, orgasm and satisfaction before pharmacotherapy, while serotonergic antidepressants may further disturb these domains during treatment, complicating causal attribution and underscorin…

- Short-Term and Long-Term Outcomes and Predictors of Complications Following Major Obstetric Anal Sphincter Injuries. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: This study demonstrates that 4th-degree OASIs result in more severe and sustained functional impairment, especially for bowel, urinary and vaginal symptoms, than 3c tears. It also highlights the negative impact of increased baby birthweight on long-term bowel and urinary function in women suffering from a 3c tear during delivery. The findings highlight the need for robust, long-term follow-up and individualised management for women sustaining major perineal trauma.

- Association of Pelvic Floor Muscle Function and Anatomy with Sexual Function in Women with Postpartum Stress Urinary Incontinence at 6-12 Months: A Cross-Sectional Study. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: In this selected cohort of postpartum women with SUI and coexisting cystocele and mixed-type pelvic floor dysfunction, positive CST, greater BND, and reduced rapid contraction capacity were associated with poorer sexual function, whereas longer postpartum period was associated with better sexual function. These exploratory findings are specific to this population and require validation in broader cohorts.

- Influence of Vitamin E Intake on Sexual Function and Depressive Symptoms in Young Women with Euthyroid Autoimmune Thyroiditis Undergoing Vitamin D Therapy: A Pilot Study. [Journal Article]
- Euthyroid autoimmune thyroiditis (Hashimoto's disease) has been shown to negatively affect female sexual health; however, this adverse impact appears to be mitigated by vitamin D therapy. Emerging research suggests that vitamin E may reduce susceptibility to autoimmune thyroiditis and that supplementation could contribute to improved sexual health outcomes. The present study aimed to investigate …
