  • Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a systemic rheumatic disease that often impacts women of childbearing age. • Alzheimer's disease (AD) affects aged women more than men. The precipitous drop in sex hormone levels in postmenopausal women likely contributes to such sexual dimorphism, with emerging evidence implicating the G protein-coupled estrogen receptor (GPER) as a modulator of AD pathology and cognitive impairments. However, the underlying mechanism remains unknown. GPER is distinctively expressed in k…

  • CONCLUSIONS: Sexual activity declines with increasing age but this is not associated with increased sexual dysfunction scores in those who remain sexually active. Impaired sexual function is more commonly reported in women aged 40-60, likely reflecting the impact of the menopause. Further research is required to better understand reasons for cessation of sexual activity and identify patients who have treatable causes of sexual dysfunction.

  • CONCLUSIONS: This study demonstrates that 4th-degree OASIs result in more severe and sustained functional impairment, especially for bowel, urinary and vaginal symptoms, than 3c tears. It also highlights the negative impact of increased baby birthweight on long-term bowel and urinary function in women suffering from a 3c tear during delivery. The findings highlight the need for robust, long-term follow-up and individualised management for women sustaining major perineal trauma.
