- Use of the Workbook Method to estimate the prevalence of chronic hepatitis B infections in the European Union and European Economic Area, 2022. [Journal Article]Euro Surveill. 2026 Apr; 31(14).ES
- BACKGROUNDUp-to-date estimates of chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) prevalence in both general and key populations are challenging to obtain because of underdiagnosis, heterogeneous surveillance systems and underrepresentation of key populations.AIMWe aimed to test the Workbook Method to estimate chronic HBV prevalence in 2022 across the EU/EEA, by country and among men who have sex with men (MSM),…

- Inequalities in adolescent HPV, Td/IPV and MenACWY vaccination coverage by socio-economic status: an ecological study, England, 2017 to 2024. [Journal Article]Euro Surveill. 2026 Apr; 31(13).ES
- BACKGROUNDMany countries use school-based vaccination for adolescent vaccination; it has been shown to reduce inequities in uptake compared with other delivery routes. In England, coverage for human papillomavirus (HPV), meningococcal groups A, C, W and Y (MenACWY) and tetanus, diphtheria and inactivated polio virus (Td/IPV) vaccine programmes exceeded 80% before the COVID-19 pandemic. However, r…

- Incidence of HIV and HCV Among People Who Inject Drugs in Montreal, Canada: Data From the HEPCO Longitudinal Cohort Study, 2011-2025. [Journal Article]J Viral Hepat. 2026 Jun; 33(6):e70185.JV
- Ongoing monitoring of hepatitis C virus (HCV) and HIV incidence among people who inject drugs (PWID) is important for epidemic control and assessing progress towards disease elimination. We estimated trends in HIV and HCV infection incidence in a community-based cohort of PWID in Montreal, Canada. Data from March 2011 to March 2025 were drawn from the HEPCO study of PWID aged ≥ 18 years and livin…

- Impact of HIV Pre-exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) on the Quality of Sex Life. [Journal Article]Arch Sex Behav. 2026 May 15. [Online ahead of print]AS
- Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) is a powerful HIV infection prevention tool. We aimed to determine how PrEP users evaluated its impact on different aspects of their sex life. We elaborated and disseminated an online questionnaire on social media and through billboards in consultation waiting rooms of sexually transmitted infection clinics or hospital infectious diseases units. The questionnaire f…

- Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) constitute a significant public health concern, with an increasing incidence in recent years. The management of these infections among the adolescent population represents a current challenge and should be based in comprehensive educational interventions (such as access to comprehensive sexuality education from early childhood and specialized training in sex…

- Cervical pathology: Diagnosis, treatment and management of patients with Human Papillomavirus. [Review]Wiad Lek. 2026; 79(4):863-876.WL
- CONCLUSIONS: Conclusions: The goal of the screening program is to detect and treat high-grade precancer and prevent the development of cancer. Detection of LSIL (CIN1) is carried out by HPV testing and cervical screening, and the diagnosis is verified by histology. Most guidelines talk about surveillance from 18 years of age for 2 years for CIN 1. Diagnosis of persistent infection with HPV 16, 18, 31, 33 and others, and not the presence of CIN1, determines the risk of developing CIN 3.

- An entropy-based framework for genomic variability analysis: A South American case study of human papillomavirus. [Journal Article]PLoS One. 2026; 21(5):e0349447.Plos
- The genetic diversity of Human Papillomavirus (HPV) poses challenges for molecular detection and genotyping, particularly in regions with distinctive circulating variants such as South America. This study aimed to quantitatively characterize HPV genomic variability using Shannon entropy (H) and to establish a reproducible framework for systematic variability assessment. Positional entropy was cal…

[Journal Article]PLoS One. 2026; 21(5):e0335298.Plos
- Frontline healthcare workers providing HIV services to children, adolescents and their families in Africa face significant stressors and well-being related challenges. These in turn may also impact their ability to provide high-quality, compassionate care. Despite healthcare providers' central role in the delivery of care and support for others, there is limited research exploring their well-bein…

- Evaluating the effects of community-based programs on viral rebound and viral suppression among HIV-positive orphaned and vulnerable children receiving antiretroviral treatment: Findings from the ACHIEVE project in Tanzania. [Journal Article]PLoS One. 2026; 21(5):e0349141.Plos
- CONCLUSIONS: The ACHIEVE project interventions were significantly associated with a reduced likelihood of viral rebound, and an increased likelihood of achieving undetectable viral load among CLHIV, highlighting their potential to enhance ART outcomes. These findings suggest that expanding similar community-based interventions could further contribute to HIV treatment efficacy and support more children in achieving and maintaining an undetectable viral load, particularly those at risk of viral rebound or persistent high viral load. Future research should explore strategies for scaling these interventions and evaluating their long-term impact.
