- Development and evaluation of glycine conjugated polypropyleneimine dendrimers for targeted chloroquine delivery. [Journal Article]
- This study investigates the synthesis and evaluation of glycine-conjugated 5.0G polypropyleneimine dendrimers as an advanced nanocarrier system for the selective delivery of chloroquine. 5.0G PPI dendrimers were synthesized via a divergent method and subsequently conjugated with glycine. Comprehensive characterization confirmed the successful modification and an increase in nanocarrier size. Drug…

- Normotensive Palpitations in Primary Care Unmasking Pheochromocytoma Complicated by Reversible Cerebral Vasoconstriction Syndrome: A Case Report. [Case Reports]
- Pheochromocytomas and paragangliomas (PPGLs) are rare catecholamine-secreting neuroendocrine tumors with intermittent and nonspecific manifestations that may be initially encountered in primary care. Although paroxysmal or sustained hypertension is a classic clue, some patients remain normotensive between episodes, which contributes to diagnostic delay. Reversible cerebral vasoconstriction syndro…

- Metastatic Melanoma to the Stomach: A Rare Case of Tumor Burden Beyond the Skin. [Case Reports]
- Metastatic melanoma is a rare occurrence and is a challenge to diagnose based on the location of spread. The increased incidence in the United States (US) can be attributed to the popularity of tanning beds, an aging population, climate change, public awareness, and better diagnostic tools. Despite the large number of melanoma cases, five-year survival rates remain high; however, survival rates d…

- Diabetic gastroenteropathy: a pan-alimentary complication. [Review]
- Autonomic neuropathy contributes to the pathophysiology of diabetic gastroenteropathy, which impacts the entire gastrointestinal tract alongside pancreatic and gallbladder functions. This is evident in the widespread morphological remodelling of the enteric nervous system, smooth muscle cells, interstitial cells of Cajal and vascular supply, causing pan-enteric motor, sensory and secretory distur…

- Neural correlates of lexical, sublexical and motor processes in word handwriting. [Journal Article]Brain Cogn. 2025 Mar; 184:106272.BC
- Writing recruits a vast neural network underpinning both linguistic and motor processes. Previous studies have tried to identify which brain areas underpin both the linguistic and motor aspects of writing. However, little is known about the neural substrate of the lexical and sublexical "routes" for spelling. In this fMRI study, participants (n = 25) copied or saw/read symbols or words. Words var…

- Dizziness and vertigo sick leave before and after insurance restrictions - a descriptive Swedish nationwide register linkage study. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: The vast majority of vertigo/dizziness sick leave episodes were coded as nonspecific diagnoses and occurred in women. BPPV, a curable vestibular condition, was the most common specific diagnosis. This suggests a potential for improved diagnostics. Women on sick leave due to dizziness/vertigo were younger and more often received nonspecific diagnostic codes. Future studies should determine the frequency of use of evidence based therapies and investigate further the gender differences.

- Dizzy spells in pregnancy: successful antenatal removal of a huge left atrial myxoma with mitral valve obstruction. [Case Reports]
- Diagnosing atrial myxoma in pregnancy is challenging because patients may present with non-specific symptoms that might be overlooked. The timing of non-obstetric operation usually depends on the nature of the disease, after careful consideration of feto-maternal safety, including the use of cardiopulmonary bypass and placental transfer of anaesthetic drug. A woman in her 30s at 18 weeks of pregn…

- Childhood-related neural genotype-phenotype in ATP1A3 mutations: comprehensive analysis. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Our study demonstrated high heterogeneity among patients with pathogenic variants in the ATP1A3 gene. Such variation is multifactorial and can be a predisposition of wide genetic and clinical variables. Many patients shared few similarities in their genetic map including repeatedly reported de novo, heterozygous, mutations in the gene. Clinically, higher females prevalence of atypical presentation was noted. These findings are validated with prior evidence and the comprehensive analysis in this study.

- Structural Changes in Brain Magnetic Resonance Imaging Associated With Psychogenic Non-epileptic Seizures: An Analytical Cross-Sectional Study. [Journal Article]
- Background Psychogenic non-epileptic seizures (PNES) are often seen as indicators of poor motor and sensory function caused by psychological responses to stressful experiences. A seizure might trigger these reactions. The aim of our study was to assess the structural changes in brain MRI associated with psychogenic non-epileptic seizures. Methodology A retrospective analytical cross-sectional stu…

- Recovery of cardiogenic shock with ablation of incessant tachycardia in a neonate. [Journal Article]
- Supraventricular tachycardia (SVT) is one of the most common conditions in neonates that require emergency cardiac care. Its incidence in infancy is 0.06 and 0.25 per 1000 patients per year by the age of 1 month and one year respectively. The symptoms are usually nonspecific and include poor feeding, irritability, vomiting, cyanosis, and pallid spells. If the symptoms are unrecognized for hours t…

- Primary Pulmonary Leiomyosarcoma: An Unusual Cause of Pleural Effusion. [Case Reports]
- Primary pulmonary leiomyosarcomas (PPLs) are extremely rare tumors of the lungs. They can present with non-specific symptoms or can also be asymptomatic with clues towards diagnosis being found on routine examination or radiographs. We present a case of a 54-year-old woman who presented with worsening shortness of breath and spells of dizziness. Her chest radiographs showed right-sided pleural ef…

- Very high rate of false positive biochemical results when screening for pheochromocytoma in a large, undifferentiated population with variable indications for testing. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: There is an extraordinarily high prevalence of high UNM seen in real-life use of the test. However, the vast majority of high UNM are unlikely to be PPGL given the disease rarity and the massive number of tests ordered. This suggests the current laboratory URL may be too low (poor specificity) and/or the reference range may not be appropriate to the type of patient being screened for PPGL. Depending on the frequency of use of any screening test in a population, if the disease is rare and the specificity of the test is poor, a high rate of false positive results will be expected.

- Clinical and Electrophysiological Differences between Subjects with Dysphonetic Dyslexia and Non-Specific Reading Delay. [Journal Article]
- Reading is essentially a two-channel function, requiring the integration of intact visual and auditory processes both peripheral and central. It is essential for normal reading that these component processes go forward automatically. Based on this model, Boder described three main subtypes of dyslexia: dysphonetic dyslexia (DD), dyseidetic, mixed and besides a fourth group defined non-specific re…

- The jasmonic acid-signalling and abscisic acid-signalling pathways cross talk during one, but not repeated, dehydration stress: a non-specific 'panicky' or a meaningful response? [Journal Article]
- Experiencing diverse and recurring biotic and abiotic stresses throughout life, plants have evolved mechanisms to respond, survive and, eventually, adapt to changing habitats. The initial response to drought involves a large number of genes that are involved also in response to other stresses. According to current models, this initial response is non-specific, becoming stress-specific only at lat…

- [Dehiscence syndromes : Diagnosis and treatment]. [Clinical Trial]
- CONCLUSIONS: The more severe the vestibular symptoms, the better the outcome of surgical therapy. Auditory symptoms (nonspecific aural fullness, hyperacusis) do not generally respond well to surgical therapy. Cochlear implants have an additional beneficial effect; comorbidities should be considered as (relative) contraindications.
