- Pathogenic PF4/Polyanion ELISA-Negative Antibodies in HIT. [Journal Article]Am J Hematol. 2026 May 02. [Online ahead of print]AJ
- CONCLUSIONS: Recognition of ELISA-negative HIT is critical to avoid harm due to the cessation of alternative anticoagulation therapy and re-exposure of these patients to heparin.

- When Infective Endocarditis Masquerades as Gastrointestinal Disease: A Case Report. [Case Reports]Br J Hosp Med (Lond). 2026 Apr 16; 87(4):52972.BJ
- CONCLUSIONS: This case highlights the importance of considering IE in patients with unexplained gastrointestinal symptoms and systemic features, even in the absence of visible colonic lesions. Early recognition and appropriate management may improve outcomes.

- Foveal Micro-embolism in Subacute Bacterial Endocarditis and the Emerging Role of Neutrophil Extracellular Traps: A Case Report and Review of the Literature. [Journal Article]Retin Cases Brief Rep. 2026 Mar 30. [Online ahead of print]RC
- CONCLUSIONS: We propose this case represents a distinct embolic mechanism mediated by neutrophil extracellular traps. Recognition of this mechanism may help expand our understanding of the spectrum of embolic phenomena in endocarditis.

- A Case of Aortic Mural Thrombus Presenting as Recurrent Shoulder Pain Discovered by the Presence of Splinter Hemorrhages. [Case Reports]Cureus. 2026 Feb; 18(2):e103027.C
- Progressive claudication of the upper extremity is uncommon and can be misattributed to cervical radiculopathy or even shoulder pathology, such as tendonitis or bursitis. We report a patient presenting to the emergency department with several months of worsening left upper-extremity pain initially managed as suspected radiculopathy, but, in retrospect, was upper-extremity claudication. This was d…

- Dermoscopy of Subungual Squamous Cell Carcinoma: A Systematic Review. [Review]
- CONCLUSIONS: Dermoscopy reliably identifies features, particularly hyperkeratosis, onycholysis, irregular margins and hemorrhagic spots, that are common in invasive subungual squamous cell carcinoma; in situ disease more commonly presents with pigmentary changes. Recognition of these signs should lower the threshold for biopsy of suspicious single-digit nail lesions and may facilitate earlier diagnosis and treatment.

- Unveiling Giant Onychomatricoma: A Diagnostic and Therapeutic Challenge. [Journal Article]
- Onychomatricoma is a rare benign tumor of the nail matrix that is often misdiagnosed due to its resemblance to other nail conditions, particularly onychomycosis. A giant variant, which affects the entire nail structure, is even more uncommon, with fewer than 20 cases documented. We present the case of a 62-year-old male with a 5-year history of a slow-growing, asymptomatic tumor on the third nail…

- Multiple Onychomatricomas as a Rare Clinical Presentation with BAP1 Mutation: A Case Report. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: OM commonly affects a single nail. The involvement of multiple nails should not be considered a reason to exclude the diagnosis of OM. Multi-nail dystrophies should be considered in case of presence of multiple lesions. In cases with multiple OM, evaluation for a BAP1 mutation should be considered.

- Platelet Factor 4 Antibody Persistence and Long-term Pathogenicity in Vaccine-induced Immune Thrombotic Thrombocytopenia. [Journal Article]
- Rarely, recipients of adenoviral vector-based vaccines experience a severe thrombotic thrombocytopenic condition referred to as vaccine-induced immune thrombotic thrombocytopenia (VITT). VITT is a transient prothrombotic process, although recent data suggests that VITT anti-platelet factor 4 (PF4) antibodies are more persistent than antibodies seen in heparin-induced thrombocytopenia. Whether ant…

- Part I. Changes in Nail Color and Vasculature as Signs of Systemic Disease. [Review]J Am Acad Dermatol. 2025 Oct 30. [Online ahead of print]JA
- Nail changes are often associated with systemic disease, and are sometimes one of the earliest clues. Nail examination is often overlooked in clinical practice, and there remains a significant gap in dermatology educational curricula on diagnosis and management of nail disorders. The purpose of this review is to describe salient nail signs which can provide clues to the physician for the diagnosi…

- Unidentified Flying Objects: An Infected Left Atrial Appendage Thrombus as a Nidus for Persistent Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus Bacteremia. [Case Reports]
- Infections of intracardiac thrombi are exceptionally rare but pose significant clinical risks, especially when located in the left atrial appendage (LAA). We present a unique case of a 51-year-old male with multiple comorbidities who was found to have an infected LAA thrombus causing persistent methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) bacteremia and systemic symptoms. Initial presentati…
