- The role of persistent inflammation in failed recovery after perinatal brain injury: is resolution the cure? [Review]J Neuroinflammation. 2026 Jun 06. [Online ahead of print]JN
- Perinatal brain injury (PBI) is a major predictor of neurological disability. Commonly associated with prematurity, infection, stroke, hypoxia-ischemia, hemorrhage, and/or toxin exposure, PBI triggers acute and persistent systemic inflammation. There are many stages of vulnerability to PBI during development including pregnancy, birth - term and preterm, and neonatal age. The vulnerable stages ca…

- Identifying high-risk and actionable profiles for prevention in hypertensive patients with concurrent dyslipidemia: a population-based retrospective study. [Journal Article]BMC Cardiovasc Disord. 2026 Jun 06. [Online ahead of print]BC
- CONCLUSIONS: Hypertension comorbid with dyslipidemia demonstrates significant correlations with body mass index (BMI) and familial predisposition (family histories of hypertension and coronary heart disease). Furthermore, individual medical histories and pharmacological regimens exhibit substantial associations with disease progression. These findings suggest potential targets for a three-tier prevention approach. With appropriate validation in prospective studies, prioritized screening and early intervention for high-risk individuals may contribute to halting or delaying disease progression.

- Implementing inclusive online psychological support after stroke: professional stakeholder views from a qualitative study. [Journal Article]BMC Health Serv Res. 2026 Jun 06. [Online ahead of print]BH
- CONCLUSIONS: Equitable implementation of online psychological support requires balancing the diverse needs of stroke survivors and the constraints of a publicly funded healthcare system. Recommended actions to enable equity provide useful insights for the development, implementation and commissioning of online mental health interventions for stroke survivors. Strategies such as embedding interventions within existing workflows, securing leadership support, and forming partnerships with community organisations may help translate online support like WAterS-2 into routine care.

- Prognostic value of C-reactive protein to albumin ratio for in-hospital mortality in acute stroke patients. [Journal Article]BMC Neurol. 2026 Jun 06. [Online ahead of print]BN
- CONCLUSIONS: The present study found a significant association between elevated CAR levels and early in-hospital mortality from all causes in patients with acute stroke. It also demonstrated that CAR may be an independent predictor of early in-hospital mortality from all causes in all patients hospitalized with acute stroke, both in the general ward and intensive care unit.

- Reducing Inequalities in Stroke Events-Hemorrhagic Disparities (RISE-HD): a 10-Year Longitudinal Study in Florida. [Journal Article]J Racial Ethn Health Disparities. 2026 Jun 06. [Online ahead of print]JR
- CONCLUSIONS: In-hospital mortality from hemorrhagic stroke mortality has declined, yet significant racial, geographic, and socioeconomic disparities persist. Black patients, those with Medicaid or other non-Medicare insurance, rural residents, and those in Northwest and South Florida face higher mortality. Targeted system-level strategies are needed to address these inequities.

- Frailty and sex differences in blood pressure control in older adults. [Journal Article]Sci Rep. 2026 Jun 07. [Online ahead of print]SR
- We aimed to examine the prevalence of frailty in older adults with hypertension and its association with suboptimal blood pressure (BP), with a particular focus on differences by sex. The study was conducted at two major hospitals in Vietnam from 2023 to 2024. Frailty was defined by a Clinical Frailty Scale of ≥ 4. Suboptimal BP was defined as systolic BP ≥ 140 mmHg or diastolic BP ≥ 90 mmHg. The…

- Assessing subtle brain injury related to cognitive impairment in obese pediatric obstructive sleep apnea using 3D MRI texture analysis. [Journal Article]Sci Rep. 2026 Jun 06. [Online ahead of print]SR
- Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a frequent complication of childhood obesity associated with neurocognitive impairment. Subtle brain injury caused by intermittent hypoxia and sleep fragmentation has been implicated, yet cannot be detected by structural MRI. This study investigated whether three-dimensional texture analysis (3D TA) of T2-weighted MRI could detect subtle microstructural alteration…

- Real-world adverse events and device failure modes of the sentinel cerebral protection system: An analysis of the FDA MAUDE database 2022 to 2026. [Journal Article]Cardiovasc Revasc Med. 2026 Jun 04. [Online ahead of print]CR
- CONCLUSIONS: This MAUDE database analysis found that reported Sentinel-related events were predominantly technical in nature, although clinically important adverse events were also identified. These findings provide real-world insights into device performance, highlight areas for procedural and design improvement, and underscore the importance of ongoing post-market surveillance.

- Rhino-orbito-cerebral infection is a rare but potentially life-threatening condition that usually occurs in immunocompromised patients. Identification of the causative organism is often challenging. A 71-year-old man without overt immunosuppression, such as corticosteroid use or chemotherapy, presented with visual loss in the left eye and was found to have internal carotid artery occlusion compli…

- Artificial Intelligence (AI) has become integral to the research of neurological diseases due to the rapid expansion of neuroimaging, clinical, physiological, and wearable data. However, the concise synthesis of recent machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL) remains limited. This systematic review analyzes studies published between January 2021 and March 2026 on five major conditions- Alzhei…

- CONCLUSIONS: To address gaps in hypertension detection and management utilizing community-based strategies, findings will provide insights into the feasibility and effectiveness of implementing a scalable, community-driven approach to hypertension screening and linkages to healthcare in Nigeria. If successful, this model could be adapted to other resource-limited settings in the United States and globally to improve detection and reduce hypertension-related complications.

- The United States has not produced a national noise health burden estimate using disability-adjusted life year methodology. We quantified the population health burden of transportation noise across the contiguous United States and examined its distribution across states and socially vulnerable communities. We applied comparative risk assessment to census-tract noise exposure data from the Nationa…

- CONCLUSIONS: In this emulated trial involving young stroke patients undergoing EVT, non-GA was associated with a higher likelihood of functional independence compared to GA with similar reperfusion success and sICH. These findings may inform anesthetic selection for young adults with anterior circulation LVO pending a dedicated randomized trial.
