- Multipronged management of chronic non-healing venous leg ulcers using advanced wound dressings and patient-centered care: a case report. [Journal Article]J Med Case Rep. 2026 May 05. [Online ahead of print]JM
- CONCLUSIONS: This case demonstrates that a multipronged outpatient approach combining targeted antimicrobial therapy, bioactive collagen-nanosilver wound dressings, nutritional optimization, and patient and caregiver education can result in full healing of chronic, infected venous ulcers while reducing the need for inpatient care. It also raises the hypothesis that chronic systemic inflammation from long-standing ulcers may predispose to metabolic dysfunction. Further prospective studies are needed to explore this potential link and to evaluate the reproducibility and cost-effectiveness of such multidisciplinary interventions in chronic wound management.

- The Effect of Different Types of Music on Pain and Anxiety during Wound Care Procedures in Patients with Venous Ulcers: A Randomized Controlled Trial. [Randomized Controlled Trial]Noise Health. 2026 Mar-Apr 01; 28(131):485-492.NH
- CONCLUSIONS: In this study, Turkish music was particularly effective, demonstrating greater reductions in anxiety and pain, as well as higher patient satisfaction compared to both Western music and the control group. The findings emphasize the importance of cultural characteristics and patient preference in music-based interventions; they demonstrate that music is an effective nursing intervention that can be applied independently by nurses, is low-cost, and is non-invasive.

- Nursing beds equipped with multi-position adjustment capabilities play a crucial role in preventing pressure ulcers and promoting blood circulation in bedridden patients. This study presents a multi-position nursing bed that integrates back-lifting, leg-bending, and lateral positioning functions, ensuring smooth and stable transitions between various care postures. The back-lifting and leg-bendin…

- A Single-Institution Cohort Study of Autologous Platelet-Rich Plasma Gel for Hard-to-Heal Chronic Wounds: Potential Role in Microvascular Regeneration. [Journal Article]J Clin Med. 2026 Apr 19; 15(8).JC
- Background/Objectives: Chronic wounds that fail to respond to standard wound care (SWC) remain a major clinical challenge. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is an advanced regenerative therapy that delivers platelet-derived growth factors involved in angiogenesis and tissue repair. However, clinical data in Asian populations and evidence regarding ulcers associated with vasculitis or microangiopathic is…

- Clinical Efficacy and Biomechanical Behavior of Different Compression Systems in Venous Ulcers: Pressure, Stiffness and Healing. [Journal Article]Life (Basel). 2026 Apr 01; 16(4).L
- CONCLUSIONS: The efficacy of compression in venous ulcers depends on both the interface pressure and the design and biomechanical behavior of the system, with clinically relevant differences between multicomponent dressings. Multipoint pressure and stiffness monitoring provides useful information to optimize system selection and support decisions based on biomechanical parameters and standardized clinical outcomes.

- Venoactive drugs in the management of chronic venous disease: A critical appraisal of the evidence and comparison with international guidelines. [Review]Vascul Pharmacol. 2026 Apr 29; :107614. [Online ahead of print]VP
- Chronic venous disease (CVD) is a prevalent condition that results from venous hypertension and leads to a variety of symptoms including leg pain, swelling, and venous ulcers. The condition significantly impacts quality of life (QoL) and imposes a burden on healthcare systems. Venoactive drugs (VADs) can manage CVD symptoms by improving venous tone, reducing inflammation, and enhancing microcircu…

- Development, validation, and pilot implementation of a prognostic model to predict future foot complications among people with diabetes recently discharged from hospital. [Journal Article]J Clin Epidemiol. 2026 Apr 28; :112295. [Online ahead of print]JC
- CONCLUSIONS: Through this example we illustrate how a learning health system can leverage hospital encounters for community-based preventative care, and demonstrate modern methods for prognostic model evaluation that reveal substantial variation in performance across hospitals.

- Effectiveness of silicone superabsorbent polymer dressings for chronic wound management: a prospective single-arm clinical study. [Multicenter Study]J Wound Care. 2026 May 02; 35(5):377-391.JW
- CONCLUSIONS: In this study, the two silicone SAP dressings used demonstrated clinically meaningful improvement in wound outcomes in chronic VLUs and DFUs, with most patients achieving ≥20% WAR alongside effective exudate management and improved wound bed quality.

- Financial and occupational burden of leg ulcers in an active Portuguese tertiary hospital population: absenteeism, unemployment and retirement. [Journal Article]J Wound Care. 2026 May 02; 35(5):454-460.JW
- CONCLUSIONS: LU was related to incapacity for work and loss of income in almost half of the study cohort. Longer duration of the ulcers, recurrence rates and work that required prolonged standing were positively associated with unemployment and retirement. By establishing earlier and more efficient treatment plans, clinicians can reduce duration of treatment and work incapacity in people with LUs.

- Determinant Factors of Self-Care Deficit in People With Chronic Wounds: A Scoping Review. [Review]J Adv Nurs. 2026 Apr 30. [Online ahead of print]JA
- CONCLUSIONS: The findings demonstrate the vulnerability of people living with chronic wounds, arising from the complex interaction of clinical, psychosocial, socioeconomic and health service-related factors that determine self-care deficits. These deficits compromise wound healing, prolong treatment and negatively affect quality of life, underscoring the need for person-centred approaches to care.

- Chronic leg ulcers are a significant source of morbidity in elderly patients, particularly those with multiple comorbidities. The most common etiologies are vascular, including chronic venous insufficiency, peripheral arterial disease, and diabetic neuropathy. However, ulcers that are non-healing and refractory to standard treatment may reflect rarer underlying pathologies, warranting comprehensi…
