- Sinuhe Classification for Pretibial Injuries: Categorising Dermatoporotic Wounds. [Review]Int Wound J. 2026 Jun; 23(6):e70981.IW
- Pretibial injuries manifest as lacerations or haematomas. Despite differences in pathogenesis and treatment, these entities have been mixed together in previous classifications. No classification for pretibial haematomas exists, and the Modified Dunkin Classification includes a Type V category that conflates lacerations with haematomas. To present the Sinuhe Classification-a comprehensive system …

- Stem cell-derived secretome: a novel strategy for wound healing. [Review]Front Pharmacol. 2026; 17:1839998.FP
- Chronic non-healing wounds, including diabetic ulcers, venous leg ulcers, and pressure ulcers, represent a significant clinical burden worldwide, associated with major economic costs and impaired quality of life. Although stem cell-based therapies have shown regenerative potential, recent accumulating evidence indicates that their therapeutic effects are primarily mediated by paracrine signaling …

- Pain associated with venous leg ulcers: the complexity of management. [Review]Br J Nurs. 2026 Jun 18; 35(12):S10-S17.BJ
- Venous leg ulcers (VLUs) are a chronic and often debilitating condition, affecting a significant number of individuals worldwide. One of the most distressing aspects of VLUs is the persistent pain they can cause, which impacts quality of life, mobility and overall wellbeing. Despite advances in wound care, VLU-related pain remains under-recognised and poorly managed. Pain in VLUs is complex and t…

- Staff Perspectives on Non-Routine Compression Therapy for Inpatients With Venous Leg Ulcers: A Qualitative Study. [Journal Article]Int Wound J. 2026 Jun; 23(6):e70976.IW
- Compression therapy is the evidence-based treatment for healing venous leg ulcers. However, it is not routinely applied in many UK hospitals. This paper explores hospital staff's' perspectives of venous leg ulcer care provision where compression therapy is not routinely applied. A semi-structured interview study was conducted with 11 participants, drawn from a larger study, who confirmed that the…

- The role of hyperbaric oxygen treatment in a case of pyomyositis. [Case Reports]Diving Hyperb Med. 2026 Jun 30; 56(2):191-194.DH
- Pyomyositis is a serious bacterial infection of the skeletal muscles, usually treated with antibiotics and surgical drainage. The success of medical or surgical treatment is often delayed or less effective when tissue hypoxia is present. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) is currently being studied as a helpful additional treatment for various conditions, especially those involving complications of…

- Percutaneous electrocoagulation (PAPS-PEC) for incompetent perforator veins: a cost-effective technical innovation for venous ulcer healing. [Journal Article]Curr Med Res Opin. 2026 Jun 12; :1-7. [Online ahead of print]CM
- CONCLUSIONS: PAPS-PEC is a safe, effective, and exceptionally cost-effective office-based modality for treating IPV-related VLUs. By repurposing existing technology, it directly addresses the economic and accessibility barriers of current standards. These promising findings warrant larger prospective studies to validate its role as a standard-of-care option in managing advanced chronic venous insufficiency, especially in resource-constrained settings.

- From Hair to Healing: Follicular Unit Transplantation for Chronic Ulcer Management-A Case Series. [Case Reports]Int Wound J. 2026 Jun; 23(6):e70973.IW
- Scalp follicular unit (FU) transplantation is a highly effective yet underutilised minimally invasive technique for promoting healing in chronic and recalcitrant cutaneous wounds. In this case series, five patients with long-standing nonhealing leg ulcers of mixed etiologies were treated exclusively with single FU grafts harvested from the scalp with a 0.9-1-mm punch. Complete re-epithelializatio…

- Managing high exudate in large leg ulcers: a case series. [Case Reports]J Wound Care. 2026 Jun; 35(Sup6c):S7-S12.JW
- This case series describes six patients with large, highly exuding lower-limb ulcers of varying aetiologies, including venous disease, lymphoedema and atypical ulceration. Across all cases, use of extra-large superabsorbent dressings within a comprehensive management approach was associated with improved exudate control, reduced dressing frequency and decreased pain. These changes were accompanie…

- Validation of a Clinical Decision-Support Algorithm for Chronic Wound Classification and Treatment: An Expert Consensus. [Journal Article]Int Wound J. 2026 Jun; 23(6):e70952.IW
- Accurate chronic wound classification is essential for appropriate management, yet diagnostic variability persists in routine practice. Transparent, rule-based decision-support tools may improve standardisation but require validation against expert judgement under clearly defined conditions. To evaluate inter-expert agreement, agreement between a rule-based algorithm and an expert-consensus refer…

- Atypical chronic leg ulcers revealing pancreatic panniculitis associated with pancreatic adenocarcinoma. [Journal Article]Dermatol Reports. 2026 Jun 08. [Online ahead of print]DR
- Dear Editor, Pancreatic panniculitis (PP) is a rare form of lobular panniculitis associated with pancreatic disorders, including acute and chronic pancreatitis and pancreatic neoplasms. It develops in a small percentage of patients with pancreatic disease and may represent the first manifestation of an occult malignancy. Clinically, PP usually presents with painful erythematous-to-violaceous nodu…

- Comparative effectiveness of debridement strategies for chronic lower-extremity wounds: a systematic review and network meta-analysis. [Systematic Review]Front Med (Lausanne). 2026; 13:1852029.FM
- CONCLUSIONS: The comparative profile of debridement strategies varied by the outcome. Biological and enzymatic debridement ranked favorably for wound healing and complete debridement, whereas enzymatic and autolytic debridement were associated with lower pain scores. Ultrasound-assisted debridement may be more efficient in terms of procedure time. These findings should be interpreted cautiously because ranking probabilities do not establish clinically decisive superiority, especially when evidence is sparse or heterogeneous.

- Lepromatous leprosy presenting with chronic painless ulcers and inflammatory arthropathy: a case report from a non-endemic setting. [Journal Article]BMC Infect Dis. 2026 Jun 05. [Online ahead of print]BI
- CONCLUSIONS: In an increasingly globalised world, even in non-endemic regions, leprosy should be considered in the differential diagnosis of chronic ulcers and inflammatory arthropathy, especially when patients come from endemic areas. An enhanced awareness among clinicians is needed. Early recognition, histopathologic confirmation, and multidrug therapy are essential to prevent irreversible complications and reduce transmission.

- A comparative analysis of Prontosan versus saline in hard-to-heal lower limb ulcers using real-world data. [Journal Article]J Wound Care. 2026 Jun 02; 35(6):470-478.JW
- CONCLUSIONS: In this analysis, PSGX use was associated with reduced healthcare resource utilisation and lower costs compared with saline, with savings equivalent to 21 community nurse visits. These real-world findings underscore the potential for cost savings and highlight the complexities of evaluating wound care interventions using routine clinical data.
