- Prognostic Significance of Platelet-to-Lymphocyte and Neutrophil-to-Lymphocyte Ratios for Complications of Diabetic Foot Ulcers: A Meta-Analysis. [Review]Cureus. 2026 Jul; 18(7):e112920.C
- One of the main consequences of diabetes mellitus is diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs), which often result in amputation and death. Two inflammatory biomarkers, platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) and neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), measured in standard blood testing, have become potential indicators of many adverse outcomes in diabetes-related complications. However, evidence regarding their asso…

- Independent Prognostic Factors for Predicting Wound Healing in People With Venous Leg Ulcers: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis. [Systematic Review]Wound Repair Regen. 2026 Jul-Aug; 34(4):e70197.WR
- This first comprehensive systematic review aimed to summarise evidence on independent prognostic factors for wound healing in people with venous leg ulcers. In June 2025, we searched Ovid MEDLINE, Ovid Embase, CINAHL and additional resources for studies with 100 or more participants that used multivariable analyses and longitudinal data to explore the prognostic value of factors in this area. Two…

- Cross-sectional imaging in an inferior vena cava agenesis associated with antiphospholipid syndrome, lower limb, and portomesenteric deep vein thrombosis and renal insufficiency in a young patient: A rare presentation. [Case Reports]
- Inferior vena cava (IVC) agenesis is a rare congenital anomaly (prevalence 0.0005%-1%) often asymptomatic but can be complicated by deep vein thrombosis, particularly in the presence of acquired thrombophilia. There are 2 major presentations reported in literature, infrahepatic IVC agenesis associated mostly with lower-limb thrombosis and intrahepatic IVC agenesis associated frequently with splan…

- Clinical outcomes of bleomycin electrosclerotherapy (BEST) for the treatment of slow-flow vascular malformations (SFVMs): a UK single-centre experience. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: BEST is a safe procedure and demonstrates significant symptom relief and QoL enhancement, particularly in patients with severe baseline symptoms and more conspicuous lesions. While multiple treatments yielded greater improvements, even a single treatment was effective. Post-procedural side effects were minor, the most severe being skin markings and self-limiting ulceration.

- Cost Effectiveness of Venous Leg Ulcer Healing Using Muscle Pump Activation. [Randomized Controlled Trial]
- The aim of this study was to evaluate the cost-effectiveness of treating patients with Venous Leg Ulcers (VLUs) with the Muscle Pump Activation device (MPA, geko) in Canada. This is a cost-effectiveness analysis of the treatment of patients with VLUs, using MPA for 4 weeks in addition to standard of care compression therapy (SOC), compared to SOC alone using Canadian costs of VLU treatment. The a…

- From Purpura to pulmonary hemorrhage: dermatological clues to systemic vasculitis - a case of granulomatosis with polyangiitis. [Case Reports]Ann Med Surg (Lond). 2026 Aug; 88(8):5442-5446.AM
- CONCLUSIONS: Early dermatologic recognition, repeat biopsy with immunofluorescence at any clinical inflection point, and timely induction therapy can reverse otherwise life-threatening alveolar hemorrhage in GPA.

- Case Report: IVIG as a bridging strategy in high-risk antiphospholipid syndrome with infected cutaneous ulceration and thrombocytopenia. [Case Reports]Front Immunol. 2026; 17:1867840.FI
- CONCLUSIONS: This case supports the feasibility of IVIG as a bridging immunomodulatory strategy in high-risk APS cutaneous disease where standard therapies are contraindicated by concurrent infection and thrombocytopenia. The sequential management approach successfully resolved a clinically challenging scenario. This case illustrates how risk-adapted immunomodulation may enable safe management of complex APS manifestations.

- Managing chronic wounds with TLC-NOSF dressings: evidence from a prospective real-life patient cohort. [Multicenter Study]J Wound Care. 2026 Aug 02; 35(8):662-672.JW
- CONCLUSIONS: The findings of the STARTLIFE study provide real-life evidence demonstrating the effectiveness, safety and high acceptability of TLC-NOSF dressings in the management of VLUs and DFUs when associated with appropriate standard of care. The diverse range of TLC-NOSF dressings supports personalised wound care and reinforces its use as a first-line intervention throughout the healing process.

- Interventions to reduce pain at dressing change of chronic wounds: a mixed-methods systematic review. [Systematic Review]Health Technol Assess. 2026 Aug; 30(59):1-57.HT
- CONCLUSIONS: Effective pain management during dressing changes requires a holistic, patient-centred approach. While some interventions show promise, many commonly used strategies lack robust evidence. The preventing pain at dressing change pathway offers a practical framework for guiding future practice, research and policy development.

- An update on biofilms in acute and chronic wounds: Incidence, clinical evidence, diagnosis, prevention, and treatment. [Review]J Intern Med. 2026 Aug 07. [Online ahead of print]JI
- Pathogenic biofilms are a critical barrier to wound healing, driving infection persistence, delayed tissue repair, and antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and tolerance. This recognition has driven a paradigm shift from a traditional planktonic model of infection to a biofilm-mediated framework, where structured microbial communities are encased within a protective extracellular polymeric substance (E…

- [Atypical course of cutaneous schwannoma: a case report and literature review]. [Case Reports]Zh Vopr Neirokhir Im N N Burdenko. 2026; 90(4):67-74.ZV
- CONCLUSIONS: Atypical course of cutaneous schwannoma with ulcers complicates accurate and timely diagnosis, as well as complicates patient management, selection of primary specialist and surgical approach. Benign tumor verified by biopsy and clinical manifestations typical for soft tissue cancer can require early surgical intervention based on oncological principles.
