- Delineating the Long-Term Incidence of Urethral Complications After Prostate Cancer Treatment: A Population-Based Analysis. [Journal Article]J Urol. 2026 Aug 07; :101097JU0000000000005222. [Online ahead of print]JU
- CONCLUSIONS: Patients undergoing CaP treatment are at a risk of developing urethral complications in the long-term regardless of treatment modality. However, combined modalities pose a heightened risk while observation and radical prostatectomy have the lowest with complications from surgery appearing earlier and stabilizing over time.

- Optimal duration of urethral catheterization in ThuLEP: A randomized prospective pilot study. [Journal Article]Fr J Urol. 2026 Jul 29; 36(9):103172. [Online ahead of print]FJ
- CONCLUSIONS: Early catheter removal at 24h following ThuLEP appears to yield comparable urinary function and patient-reported outcomes to the standard 72-hour protocol in this cohort. These preliminary findings support the feasibility of early catheter removal and provide a basis for future confirmatory trials.

- Pharyngeal gonorrhea in Ugandan men with urogenital gonorrhea: differences in antimicrobial resistance and strain types between anatomical sites. [Journal Article]J Infect Dis. 2026 Jul 08. [Online ahead of print]JI
- CONCLUSIONS: phNG is common in Ugandan men with uNG, both displaying high rates of AMR. Different strains at the two anatomical sites were common, supporting the need for pharyngeal testing and phNG susceptibility testing as the pharynx is a critical site for AMR emergence.

- Deep genomic characterisation of an extensively drug-resistant Shigella sonnei carrying bla CTX-M-15 in a sexually transmitted infection in an MSM patient in Spain. [Journal Article]Sex Transm Infect. 2026 Jun 25. [Online ahead of print]ST
- CONCLUSIONS: We describe the second report in Spain of an XDR S. sonnei harbouring bla CTX-M-15 sexually transmitted in an MSM. The coexistence of multiple resistance genes on potentially conjugative plasmids highlights the capacity of this pathogen as vehicles for resistance gene dissemination, which underscores the public health threat posed by sexually transmitted XDR S. sonnei.

- Prevalence of HIV and associated sociobehavioral factors among men with urethral discharge syndrome attending public health facilities in Kampala, Uganda. [Journal Article]BMC Infect Dis. 2026 Jun 18. [Online ahead of print]BI
- CONCLUSIONS: Almost one in five men presenting with UDS were PLWHIV, with just over half of those on ART reporting viral suppression. Older age and hazardous alcohol use were associated with HIV. Men with UDS represent a key population where HIV diagnosis, prevention, and ART adherence interventions may have a significant impact.

- Do all patients need a urethral catheter after robotic-assisted radical prostatectomy? [Journal Article]
- To evaluate the safety and early functional outcomes of a urethral catheter-free protocol during extraperitoneal single-site robot-assisted radical prostatectomy (essRARP), enabled by suprapubic catheter (SPC) drainage placed through the existing incision, compared with urethral catheter (UC) drainage. We retrospectively analysed 217 consecutive men undergoing essRARP (June 2023-July 2025) at a s…

- Etiological profile of male urethritis and genital ulcer disease and antimicrobial susceptibility of Neisseria gonorrhoeae in Southeastern Brazil. [Journal Article]Braz J Infect Dis. 2026 May-Jun; 30(3):105823.BJ
- CONCLUSIONS: Neisseria gonorrhoeae and Chlamydia trachomatis are the leading causes of male urethritis, whereas herpes simplex virus type 2 and Treponema pallidum predominate among cases of genital ulcer disease. The high prevalence of ciprofloxacin resistance reinforces the need for continuous antimicrobial resistance surveillance and supports current guidelines recommending ceftriaxone as first-line therapy.

- Assessing N. gonorrhoeae prevalence and testing capacity for new treatment rollout: a scoping review for Cambodia, Thailand, Vietnam and South Africa. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: This scoping review confirms substantial data gaps on N. gonorrhoeae prevalence and antimicrobial resistance across the studied regions, with Cambodia contributing no eligible studies and Thailand and Vietnam remaining underrepresented in published literature. National programs and international partners should prioritise sentinel culture capacity and standardised antimicrobial susceptibility testing and genotypic testing to inform treatment guidelines, detect emerging resistance patterns, and inform public health interventions in these high-burden regions.

- Sexually transmitted infection prevalence and Neisseria gonorrhoeae antimicrobial resistance patterns in men who have sex with men with or without urethral discharge syndrome in Johannesburg, South Africa, 2024. [Journal Article]PLOS Glob Public Health. 2026; 6(4):e0006256.PG
- We conducted a cross-sectional study to estimate the prevalence of urogenital and extragenital sexually transmitted infections (STIs) among men who have sex with men (MSM) with and without urethral discharge syndrome, to assess infections missed by syndromic management, and to describe phenotypic antimicrobial susceptibility patterns of Neisseria gonorrhoeae. The study included 189 MSM attending …

- Prevalence of and Factors Associated With Urethral and Rectal STIs Among a Cross-Sectional Sample Men Who Have Sex With Men. [Journal Article]Sex Transm Dis. 2026 Jul 01; 53(7):435-443.ST
- CONCLUSIONS: MSM in Kisumu and Nairobi have a substantial burden of frequently asymptomatic urethral and rectal CT and NG infections. While some modifiable sexual exposures were identified, results also highlight the need for integrated mental health and substance use services.

- Real-time polymerase chain reaction results of urogenital system samples and their relationship with other sexually transmitted diseases. [Journal Article]Pak J Med Sci. 2026 Feb; 42(2):401-404.PJ
- CONCLUSIONS: Molecular microbiological methods may be useful in patients suspected of having a urogenital system infection when no pathogens are cultured or when the presence of multiple pathogens must be identified to guide treatment.

- Efficacies of Single-Dose Ceftriaxone Regimens in Treating Gonococcal Paraurethral Duct Infection in Men. [Journal Article]
- This study compared the efficacies of single-dose ceftriaxone therapy at doses of 250 mg, 500 mg, and 1 g for gonococcal paraurethral duct infection in men. Forty-eight men with gonococcal paraurethral duct infection were assigned to Groups A, B, and C based on their order of arrival in the clinic; each group comprised 16 patients. Groups A, B, and C received single intramuscular doses of ceftria…

- Prevalence of Neisseria meningitidis by Molecular Testing in Urine Specimens From Men in Ohio. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Our molecular prevalence study revealed that meningococcal urethritis is likely underdiagnosed in Ohio men, with 1 case for every 4-11 men with urogenital gonorrhea. With further optimization and validation, molecular testing may become a viable diagnostic or surveillance method for meningococcal urethritis.

- Predictive risk assessment and targeted testing could enhance STI diagnosis in a high HIV prevalence setting in Eswatini. [Journal Article]
- Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) present significant public health challenges in resource-limited settings where syndromic management, which often leads to misdiagnosis and over-treatment, remains standard care. We retrospectively evaluated hypothetical STI risk assessment-only (Triage-only) and sequential risk assessment plus STI diagnostic testing (Triage&Test) approaches as potential enh…
