- Vaginal mucosal necrosis following traditional vaginal cauterization in Somalia: a case report. [Case Reports]J Surg Case Rep. 2026 May; 2026(5):rjag351.JS
- Traditional vaginal cauterization is practiced in some low-resource settings, including Somalia, for gynecological complaints. Unregulated thermal exposure may cause severe tissue destruction. Circumferential full-thickness vaginal necrosis requiring reconstruction is extremely rare. A 70-year-old multiparous Somali woman presented with severe vaginal pain, foul discharge, fever, and urinary rete…

- Carcinoma of the Vulva. [Review]Radiographics. 2026 May; 46(5):e250139.R
- Vulvar cancer is a rare gynecologic malignancy with a higher incidence in postmenopausal women. Squamous cell carcinoma is the most common histologic subtype (>90% of cases). The majority of affected patients are symptomatic and present with vulvar pruritus, bloody discharge, pain, and/or a palpable mass. The disease is staged by using the International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FI…

- Urethral leiomyoma mimicking urethral diverticulum: a rare case report and brief literature review. [Case Reports]Transl Androl Urol. 2026 Mar 15; 15(3):92.TA
- CONCLUSIONS: Mid-urethral leiomyoma can mimic urethral diverticulum. Careful MRI review for a solid lesion without luminal communication, followed by complete local excision that preserves urethral integrity, leads to accurate diagnosis and excellent short-term outcomes. This report provides practical imaging and operative cues for periurethral smooth-muscle tumors.

- Prevalence of and factors associated with urethral and rectal STIs among a cross-sectional sample men who have sex with men. [Journal Article]Sex Transm Dis. 2026 Mar 24. [Online ahead of print]ST
- CONCLUSIONS: MSM in Kisumu and Nairobi have substantial burden of frequently asymptomatic urethral and rectal CT and NG infections. While some modifiable sexual exposures were identified, results also highlight the need for integrated mental health and substance use services.

- Urethral diverticulum complicated by multiple calculi secondary to urethral mesh erosion: A case report. [Case Reports]Case Rep Womens Health. 2026 Jun; 50:e00797.CR
- The case of a 65-year-old woman with a complication 15 years after mesh repair of vaginal prolapse is presented. The patient presented with chronic pelvic pain, recurrent urinary tract infections (UTIs), foul-smelling vaginal discharge, and urinary frequency/urgency for the previous eight years. Magnetic resonance imaging led to the diagnosis of vaginal mesh erosion and a urethral diverticular ca…

- Real-time polymerase chain reaction results of urogenital system samples and their relationship with other sexually transmitted diseases. [Journal Article]Pak J Med Sci. 2026 Feb; 42(2):401-404.PJ
- CONCLUSIONS: Molecular microbiological methods may be useful in patients suspected of having a urogenital system infection when no pathogens are cultured or when the presence of multiple pathogens must be identified to guide treatment.

- Incidental diagnosis of genital tuberculosis in a prepubertal girl presenting with acute urinary retention: a case report. [Case Reports]
- CONCLUSIONS: Genital tuberculosis-associated hematocolpos with imperforate hymen is a rare condition that can delay diagnosis, leading to increased reproductive morbidity. Considering this, treating doctors should carefully evaluate such patients. Tubercular hematocolpos should be considered in the differential diagnosis of prepubertal girls presenting with obstructive genital anomalies, particularly in tuberculosis-endemic nations. Prompt diagnosis and appropriate management, including hymenotomy and antitubercular therapy, are crucial to avoid misdiagnosis and delayed management.

- Voiding Dysfunction After Prolapse Surgery: Uterosacral Ligament Suspension Versus Sacrospinous Ligament Suspension. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: There was no observed difference in postoperative voiding dysfunction between the two surgical approaches. Future studies with larger sample sizes may garner different results.

- Guarding Reflex Inhibition Training Reduces Postoperative Urinary Retention After Urethral Bulking for Stress Urinary Incontinence: A Retrospective Single-Center Study. [Journal Article]
- Background/Objectives: Postoperative urinary retention (POUR) occurs in 10-15% of women after surgical procedures for stress urinary incontinence (SUI). Guarding Reflex Inhibition Training (GRIT) is a novel behavioral approach that teaches patients to consciously inhibit involuntary pelvic floor contraction. We evaluated whether preoperative GRIT is associated with decreased POUR after urethral b…

- Repeated Visits to a Woman With Suspected Worms Discharged From the Urethra-A Case Study. [Journal Article]
- A 58-year-old female presented with a 6-month history of recurrent "worms" found in her toilet, which she suspected originated from her urinary tract. Physical examination was unremarkable. Laboratory analysis revealed motile, blood-red worm-like organisms measuring 25-35 mm in length, initially suspected to be Dioctophyma renale larvae. However, parasitic screening tests were negative, and micro…

- Predictive risk assessment and targeted testing could enhance STI diagnosis in a high HIV prevalence setting in Eswatini. [Journal Article]
- Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) present significant public health challenges in resource-limited settings where syndromic management, which often leads to misdiagnosis and over-treatment, remains standard care. We retrospectively evaluated hypothetical STI risk assessment-only (Triage-only) and sequential risk assessment plus STI diagnostic testing (Triage&Test) approaches as potential enh…

- A Rare Cause of Female Urinary Retention: Large Urethral Stone Leading to Bilateral Hydronephrosis. [Case Reports]
- Urethral calculi are an uncommon clinical finding in females due to their relatively short and wide urethra, which typically facilitates the spontaneous passage of stones without impaction. We present a unique case of a 62-year-old female with no prior medical or surgical history who developed acute urinary retention lasting seven hours. She reported suprapubic discomfort but denied fever or flan…
