- Paraneoplastic leukocytosis in peritoneal dialysis. [Journal Article]Perit Dial Int. 2026 Apr 06; :8968608261434274. [Online ahead of print]PD
- Liposarcoma (LPS) typically occurs in the extremities and retroperitoneum, but rarely occurs in visceral organs such as pancreas. Only few cases of primary pancreatic LPS have been reported in literature. Here we describe the first case of primary pancreatic LPS in a patient receiving continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD). This patient was a 60-year-old female who had been on CAPD for …

- Analytical validation of a novel agglutination immunoassay for the quantification of cystatin B in canine and feline urine. [Journal Article]
- Urinary cystatin B (uCysB) is a biomarker of kidney injury in dogs and cats. A high-throughput agglutination immunoassay (Idexx Laboratories) was developed for widespread commercial availability of uCysB testing in a reference laboratory setting. We evaluated immunoassay performance and included analyses of precision, accuracy, linearity, interference, analytical specificity, lot-to-lot variation…

- Influence of a microbiological commentary on the management of asymptomatic bacteriuria. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: The inclusion of a commentary in the microbiology report contributed to a reduction in antimicrobial prescription in AB. This intervention may be effective in optimising antibiotic prescribing practices and improving urine culture request management policies.

- Chyluria With Coexisting Minimal Change Disease: An Uncommon Clinical Association. [Case Reports]
- Chyluria is a rare clinical entity defined by the presence of chyle in the urine, classically presenting as milky or cloudy urine. While typically associated with parasitic infections such as Wuchereria bancrofti in endemic regions, non-parasitic causes are less common and diagnostically challenging. We report the case of a 56-year-old male presenting with milky urine, dysuria, urinary hesitancy,…

- Physiological and Metabolic Responses to Water Restriction in Ewes Under Semi-Arid Conditions. [Journal Article]
- The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of different water restrictions on the thermoregulation and blood hematological and metabolite parameters of crossbred Santa Inês ewes in a semi-arid climate. Thirty-two ewes were subjected to four water supply levels (100%, 80%, 60%, and 40%), in a completely randomized design with eight replications. The confinement period lasted 77 days, with 14…

- Haemato-Urological Profile and Asymptomatic Urinary Tract Infection in Ghanaian Steady-State Sickle Cell Disease Patients: A Case-Control Study. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: This study has shown ASM-UTI to be common in adult SCD participants with higher rate in females. It has also showed that ASM-UTI can exist alongside other clinical states such as anemia, microalbuminuria, hematuria and proteinuria which are characteristics of kidney disease which can trigger crises in SCD participants.

- Amoxicillin crystalluria and amoxicillin-induced crystal nephropathy: a narrative review. [Review]Kidney Int. 2025 Jan; 107(1):33-43.KI
- Amoxicillin crystalluria (AC) refers to the precipitation of amoxicillin in the urine as amoxicillin trihydrate crystals. Amoxicillin-induced crystal nephropathy (AICN) refers to the obstruction of kidney tubules by amoxicillin trihydrate crystals, resulting in acute kidney injury. Usually considered rare and not serious, AC and AICN would be more frequent in patients receiving high-dose i.v. amo…

- Uropathogens and their antibiotic susceptibility patterns among diabetic patients at st. john of god hospital, duayaw nkwanta, Ghana: a cross-sectional study. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: This study underscores the notable prevalence of uropathogens in diabetic patients and the alarming levels of antibiotic resistance observed. The results highlight the critical need for vigilant monitoring and customized treatment approaches, particularly for diabetic patients exhibiting risk factors such as elevated urine glucose levels, cloudy urine, and presence of leukocyte esterase and pus cells in urine sediment. The significant resistance to frequently used antibiotics like co-trimoxazole and tetracycline points to the necessity of routine susceptibility testing and the use of alternative antibiotics for effective treatment. These findings can assist healthcare providers in more effectively managing and preventing UTIs in diabetic populations.
