- Performance of an evidence-based risk algorithm to diagnose chlamydia and gonorrhea among pregnant Rwandan women. [Journal Article]medRxiv. 2026 May 21.M
- Reproductive tract infections (RTI) are associated with adverse outcomes in pregnant African women. However, many diagnostic strategies are unaffordable or perform poorly. Here, we assess RTI prevalence and predictors of chlamydia/gonorrhea (CT/NG) in pregnant women reporting vaginal discharge and the performance of our previously published CT/NG risk algorithm in this population versus Rwandan N…

- From syndromic management to diagnostic-led management: a report from an expert meeting on introducing sexually transmitted infection testing in low-resource settings. [Journal Article]Sex Transm Infect. 2026 Jun 03. [Online ahead of print]ST
- CONCLUSIONS: Effective introduction of STI POC diagnostics in low-resource settings will require coordinated efforts across global and national levels. Successful introduction, while ensuring equitable access, will accelerate access to quality STI care, reduce antimicrobial resistance and improve STI control outcomes.

- Maternal complications within six weeks after primary caesarean section in Ghana: a prospective cohort study. [Journal Article]BMC Pregnancy Childbirth. 2026 Jun 03. [Online ahead of print]BP
- CONCLUSIONS: Primary CS complication rate within the first 6 weeks post- partum is relatively low with the majority being surgical site infections. The risk factors associated with CS complications are; being a teenager, women who are widowed and recurrent abnormal vaginal discharge during pregnancy. The use of diathermy for CS is associated with less risk of CS complications. Identification of these factors and provision of appropriate support and treatment will help to reduce the complications associated with CSs at Ghana's largest referral teaching hospital and enable women have a more positive pregnancy experience.

- Investigation of Coxiella burnetii Infection in the Uterus of Cats. [Journal Article]Arch Razi Inst. 2025 Sep; 80(5):1239-1246.AR
- CONCLUSIONS: In conclusion, based on the present findings and considering the zoonotic aspect of C. burnetii infection, it appears that C. burnetii infection is not common in domestic cats in Tehran and Tabriz. However, further research on other samples is recommended.

- Short-Term Success Rate and Risk Factors for Failure of the Urethral Plication Procedure in the Management of Post-Obstetric Fistula Closure Stress Urinary Incontinence Among Ugandan Women: A Prospective Cohort Study. [Journal Article]Int J Womens Health. 2026; 18:610063.IJ
- CONCLUSIONS: The short-term success rate of the urethral plication procedure is moderately high, and in carefully selected women, it appears to be a safe and effective option for managing post-obstetric fistula closure stress urinary incontinence. Although the procedure is more likely to fail in women with severe vaginal scarring, the severity of the incontinence improves in those that fail.

- Use of acupuncture to reduce prolactin levels in antipsychotically induced hyperprolactinemia: a case report. [Case Reports]Front Med (Lausanne). 2026; 13:1727171.FM
- CONCLUSIONS: This case study suggests that acupuncture may improve the mental well-being of individuals with psychiatric conditions and concurrent hyperprolactinemia, reduce prolactin levels, improve menstrual flow and cycle, and decrease urinary incontinence. Therefore, acupuncture may have potential benefits in the treatment of antipsychotic-induced hyperprolactinemia.

- Triphala as a Topical Agent in Gynaecological Disorders: A Comprehensive Review of Its Pharmacological Actions and Applications. [Review]Cureus. 2026 Apr; 18(4):e107796.C
- Gynaecological disorders, including abnormal vaginal discharge, vulvovaginal infections and chronic vulvovaginal inflammation, are common clinical problems for which locally acting therapies are particularly relevant. Triphala, a classical polyherbal formulation composed of Terminalia chebula, Terminalia bellirica and Phyllanthus emblica, has been traditionally used for mucosal and gynaecological…

- Clinical manifestations and ultrasonographic features of lobular endocervical glandular hyperplasia: a retrospective study of 135 patients. [Journal Article]Ann Med. 2026 Dec; 58(1):2673627.AM
- CONCLUSIONS: The preoperative diagnostic workup for LEGH requires the integration of clinical manifestations, cervical cytology, sonographic evaluation, and pelvic MRI. Sonographic evaluation demonstrated heterogeneous echogenicity, echogenic enhancement, obscure boundaries, and no significant blood flow signals as the defining features of LEGH.

- High-risk human papillomavirus positivity and associated factors among women living with HIV in public health facilities of Mekelle, Northern Ethiopia. [Journal Article]Infect Agent Cancer. 2026 May 30. [Online ahead of print]IA
- CONCLUSIONS: The findings of the current study indicate a high burden (39.7%) of oncogenic HPV strains among HIV-positive women, though lower than the pooled estimates in sub-Saharan Africa. Notably, HPV-16 and the non-HPV-16/18 high-risk genotypes collectively accounted for the majority of infections. Factors that influenced the presence of high-risk HPV included a history of unprotected sex before marriage, oral contraceptive use, vaginal discharge, genital ulcer disease, lack of awareness regarding HPV and cervical cancer, a shorter duration since ART initiation, frequent ART interruptions, and detectable recent HIV viral loads.

- Successful non-surgical management of genital prolapse in a neonate with thoracolumbar meningomyelocele using a bottle nipple device: Case report. [Case Reports]Womens Health (Lond). 2026 Jan-Dec; 22:17455057261456872.WH
- Genital prolapse is very rare in neonates. In neonates affected by spina bifida, genital prolapse can occur due to improper nerve supply to the pelvic diaphragm. When genital prolapse occurs in neonates, it can be associated with severe morbidity as time goes on, since inflammation and infection can develop. This study reports a 3-day-old female neonate who presented with genital prolapse associa…

- Timing of Indwelling Catheter Removal and its Impact on Postoperative Urinary Retention Following Prolapse Surgery. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Midnight removal of the IUC after prolapse surgery does not lead to an increased incidence of POUR and is considered a safe alternative for catheter removal the following morning. In addition, this may contribute to more effective healthcare and optimization of hospital capacity.

- Vesicovaginal fistula (VVF) after radiotherapy is a serious complication that occurs after radiotherapy for pelvic malignant tumors. Traditional nephrostomy greatly affects patients' quality of life, restricting their daily activities. It may also cause side injuries and bleeding due to large surgical trauma, which made the widespread adoption of this surgery method difficult. This article aims t…

- Variation in Postdischarge Opioid Prescribing After Childbirth and Associated Procedures. [Journal Article]Obstet Gynecol. 2026 May 28. [Online ahead of print]OG
- Current practice guidelines for postpartum pain management lack specific recommendations for opioid prescribing after vaginal births or vaginal births with associated procedures such as operative vaginal birth (ie, forceps, vacuum-assisted birth) and repair of third- or fourth-degree lacerations. This study used adjusted logistic regression models to assess between-hospital variation in opioid pr…

- Transvaginal Expulsion of a Fibroid After Transvaginal Radiofrequency Ablation: A Complication or a Benefit? [Journal Article]Reports (MDPI). 2026 May 06; 9(2).R
- Uterine fibroids are among the most common benign tumors affecting women, with a prevalence reaching up to 50-60% in those over 40 years of age, although often underestimated due to asymptomatic cases. Radiofrequency ablation (RFA) represents a minimally invasive alternative to surgery for selected patients. We report the case of a 41-year-old woman with symptomatic uterine fibroids (FIGO type 4,…
