- Diagnostic Challenge in Diagnosing Atypical Pityriasis Rosea: A Case Report. [Case Reports]Case Rep Dermatol. 2026 Jan-Dec; 18(1):487-491.CR
- CONCLUSIONS: Atypical presentations of pityriasis rosea can make diagnosis challenging, resulting in misidentification. Histopathology of inflammatory skin conditions can be used in the instances of diagnostic uncertainty. Reporting atypical cases of pityriasis rosea can raise awareness and aid physicians in identifying uncommon manifestations of the disease, which can potentially prevent unnecessary treatment and their adverse outcomes.

- Rural Presentation of Kawasaki Disease with Leukopenia and Transaminitis. [Case Reports]S D Med. 2026 Jul; 79(7):306-309.SD
- Kawasaki disease (KD) is an acute, self-limited vasculitis that primarily affects young children, and early treatment is essential to prevent coronary artery complications. Diagnosis is clinical and can be challenging in children who present atypically or receive initial evaluation in resource-limited settings. We report a case of KD in a 6-year-old girl who presented to a rural clinic with six d…

- A Diagnosis of Exclusion - Adult-Onset Still's Disease: A Case Report. [Case Reports]S D Med. 2025 Oct; 78(10):465-470.SD
- Adult-onset Still's disease (AOSD) is a rare systemic inflammatory disorder characterized by high spiking fevers, arthralgia or arthritis, and a distinctive salmon-colored evanescent rash. Diagnosis is clinical but can pose a challenge for providers given its rarity and variable clinical presentation. Here, the authors present the case of a 58-year-old Caucasian male exhibiting fever, myalgias, h…
- Skin manifestations of primary COVID-19 infection with the omicron variant. [Journal Article]PLoS One. 2026; 21(7):e0352201.Plos
- CONCLUSIONS: Skin rashes associated with Omicron variant COVID-19 infection, predominantly affecting young and middle-aged women, are characterized by wheals, erythema, and papular/papulovesicular eruptions. Early identification and management of these cutaneous symptoms should be integrated in the overall treatment plan of Omicron variant COVID-19 infection.

- Measles: A Global Public Health Emergency! [Review]Adv Emerg Nurs J. 2026 Jul-Sep 01; 48(3):159-165.AE
- Measles is a highly contagious vaccine-preventable disease that was once controlled with measles, mumps, and rubella vaccinations but has reemerged in the United States and globally as a public health emergency. Despite availability of a safe and effective vaccine, declining vaccination rates driven by vaccine hesitancy, access issues, and clustering of unvaccinated individuals have led to measle…

- Measles and rubella seropositivity among suspected measles cases in northwestern region of Nigeria. [Journal Article]J Public Health Afr. 2026; 17(1):1354.JP
- CONCLUSIONS: This high measles seropositivity is concerning considering the ease of access to measles vaccines available at every primary, secondary and even tertiary health facilities spread across northwestern Nigeria.

- When measles is not benign: meningoencephalitis and status epilepticus in an unvaccinated adolescent (case report). [Case Reports]Pan Afr Med J. 2026; 53:96.PA
- Measles is a highly contagious viral exanthematous disease, caused by a Morbillivirus, that continues to cause outbreaks in under-immunized populations. While neurologic complications are rare, the progression to meningoencephalitis with convulsive status epilepticus is exceptional, particularly in immunocompetent adolescents. We report a 17-year-old unvaccinated male who presented with a febrile…

- Artificial intelligence (AI)-assisted diagnosis of skin diseases: From image classification to dermatology-specific multimodal clinical reasoning. [Review]Glob Health Med. 2026 Jun 30; 8(3):193-204.GH
- Artificial intelligence (AI) in dermatology has moved beyond the early paradigm of single-image classification. Dermatological diagnosis is achieved based on morphology, distribution, symptoms, tactile findings, temporal evolution, patient history, histopathology, and treatment response. Clinically important differentials, such as eczema versus psoriasis, cutaneous T-cell lymphoma versus chronic …

- Atypical Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease in an Immunocompetent Adult. [Case Reports]
- Hand, foot, and mouth disease (HFMD) is a common viral illness of childhood but is increasingly recognized in adults with often atypical and severe presentations. We report a case of HFMD in an immunocompetent man in his sixties who presented with a generalized, tender vesiculopapular eruption involving the groin, trunk, extremities, palms, and soles. An extensive infectious evaluation was initia…

- Elevated procalcitonin levels in febrile children with exanthema subitum undergoing clinically indicated PCT testing: a retrospective cohort study. [Journal Article]BMC Infect Dis. 2026 Jun 17. [Online ahead of print]BI
- CONCLUSIONS: Among febrile children undergoing clinically indicated PCT testing, primary HHV-6 infection was associated with modest PCT elevation. These elevations may reflect HHV-6-associated hematologic alterations rather than bacterial co-infection or disease severity, highlighting the need for cautious interpretation of PCT in ES.

- [KEY POINTS FOR DRUG ERUPTIONS IN DAILY PRACTICE]. [Review]Arerugi. 2026; 75(3):163-170.A
- Drug eruptions are common mucocutaneous adverse reactions encountered across all medical specialties, occurring in approximately 0.1-1% of patients exposed to medications. However, accurate diagnosis and identification of the culprit drug remain challenging because of heterogeneous clinical presentations and a wide range of differential diagnoses, particularly viral exanthems. Comprehensive evalu…

- Onychomadesis: A Rare Manifestation of Coxsackievirus A6 Infection in an Adult Patient. [Case Reports]Cureus. 2026 Apr; 18(4):e107987.C
- Hand, foot, and mouth disease (HFMD) is a self-limiting viral illness predominantly affecting children under 10 years of age, with peak incidence in those aged one to four years. Recent outbreaks of Coxsackievirus A6 (CVA6) have increased its incidence across all age groups, including adults. Onychomadesis, a proximal nail plate detachment due to transient matrix arrest, is a recognized but under…

- We present the case of an HIV-positive patient with fever, arthralgia and maculopapular exanthema following a stay in Thailand, in whom acute chikungunya infection was serologically confirmed. Treatment was purely symptomatic, as no specific antiviral therapy is available. In view of the increasing number of cases in tropical endemic areas, but also in regions close to the borders of our neighbou…
