- A viral APOBEC3 antagonist distinguishes HHV-6A from HHV-6B. [Journal Article]
- Human herpesviruses exhibit diverse pathogenic outcomes and the molecular reasons are not fully understood. Human herpesvirus 6B (HHV-6B) causes exanthema subitum and encephalitis, whereas the closely related HHV-6A is typically asymptomatic. Here, we show that cellular APOBEC3 enzymes restrict HHV-6A replication but not HHV-6B. HHV-6B expresses higher levels of the U28 protein, which binds multi…

- Drug-Induced Blaschkitis Associated With Dipeptidyl Peptidase-4 Inhibitor: A Case Report and Review of the Literature. [Journal Article]J Dermatol. 2026 Apr 28. [Online ahead of print]JD
- Blaschkitis is an acquired Blaschko-linear inflammatory dermatosis similar to classic lichen striatus. Although the pathomechanisms have not yet been fully elucidated, it has been reported that some cases were triggered by viral infections, vaccines, or drugs. We recently encountered a patient who developed multiple broad bands of erythematous papular plaques accompanied by vesicles along Blaschk…

- Severe viral rash progression prediction and surveillance early warning based on local-global attention and temporal convolutional network. [Journal Article]Front Public Health. 2026; 14:1796307.FP
- Aiming at the problems of delayed early warning for severe viral exanthems and insufficient prediction accuracy based on a single data source, this study proposes a dual-branch cross-modal fusion prediction model based on TCN-TransDAF. The model adopts a Dilated-TCN branch to capture the long-term evolution law of clinical temporal indicators within 72 h after diagnosis, and a local-global attent…

- Febrile multisystem illness after pilgrimage: allopurinol-induced DRESS mimicking infection. [Case Reports]BMJ Case Rep. 2026 Apr 24; 19(4).BC
- A man in his early 30s presented with fever, widespread pruritic rash and deranged liver function tests shortly after returning from a religious pilgrimage. Initial assessment focused on infectious and travel-related causes given recent international travel. Investigations revealed marked eosinophilia, lymphocytosis and a mixed hepatocellular-cholestatic liver injury. Extensive viral, parasitic a…

- [Characterization of imported dengue fever cases in Germany - Results of a pilot project]. [Journal Article]Dtsch Med Wochenschr. 2026 Apr 21. [Online ahead of print]DM
- CONCLUSIONS: The joint detection of an infectious disease was successfully piloted. Dengue fever presented itself in its classic form. Growing case numbers and the risk of autochthonous transmission are increasingly bringing dengue fever into the focus of differential diagnosis in Germany.

- Parvovirus B19: how to interpret semi-quantitative viraemia values during high circulation of the virus in the population. [Journal Article]Epidemiol Mikrobiol Imunol. 2026; 75(1):15-23.EM
- CONCLUSIONS: To diagnose parvovirus B19 infection, it is important to know the possible clinical courses and typical laboratory findings, to have access to rapid PCR testing with quantitative viraemia values, and to be able to interpret these data. We consider viraemia levels of 10[7] copies/ml and above within a week of the onset of symptoms to confirm the diagnosis. Lower values need to be interpreted with caution. Based on the duration of symptoms and clinical course, we can consider an immunopathological reaction caused by parvovirus B19 or an incidental finding of viraemia in another diagnosis, especially when there is a high circulation of the virus in the population.

- Atypical exanthem associated with human herpesvirus 7 active infection in a 24-year-old man. [Journal Article]Dermatol Reports. 2026 Mar 30. [Online ahead of print]DR
- Dear Editor, An otherwise healthy 24-year-old male patient presented to us with a three-day history of a diffuse, pruritic skin eruption preceded by low-grade fever and fatigue in the previous two weeks. Physical examination revealed an atypical exanthem with a polymorphic pattern characterized by diffuse erythematous macular lesions on the forehead, erythema, edema, and vesicles on the ears, ery…

- Peri-Umbilicated Pseudopustules in Mpox. [Case Reports]Oxf Med Case Reports. 2026 Mar; 2026(3):omag021.OM
- Mpox is an emerging zoonotic infection that has shown sustained human-to-human transmission since 2022, often through sexual contact networks. We report a case of mpox in a 43-year-old Indian-origin man residing in the United Arab Emirates who presented with fever, sore throat, and a painful genital ulcer, followed by widespread vesiculo-pseudopustular lesions. Examination revealed firm, well-cir…

- An Uncommon Case of Disseminated Human Herpesvirus 6 Infection in an Immunocompetent Adult. [Case Reports]Cureus. 2026 Jan; 18(1):e102404.C
- Human herpesvirus 6 (HHV-6) is a common cause of infection in childhood, classically presenting as exanthema subitum. Viral reactivation causing severe disease in the setting of immunosuppression is well documented in the literature. However, HHV-6 infection in immunocompetent adults has been uncommonly reported. We describe the case of an immunocompetent man in his 50s who presented with fever, …

- Parvovirus B19 in Children: Clinical Spectrum, Viral Load Patterns, and Atypical Cutaneous Presentations in the Post-Pandemic Outbreak. [Journal Article]Viruses. 2026 Feb 10; 18(2).V
- Background: Human parvovirus B19 causes a broad spectrum of clinical manifestations, ranging from the classic "fifth disease" to severe presentations. Clinical presentation varies considerably across age groups. In 2023-2024, a notable increase in parvovirus B19 cases was reported across Europe. Methods: We retrospectively analyzed pediatric patients with serum serology and/or plasma PCR-confirme…

- Acute Urticaria as the Sole Manifestation of Dengue Fever: A Rare Case Report. [Journal Article]Clin Case Rep. 2026 Mar; 14(3):e72182.CC
- Urticaria is a very uncommon dermatological manifestation of infection by the dengue virus. It can hinder diagnosis since some of its features overlap with allergic conditions, such as maculopapular and petechial rashes. We present a case of a 32-year-old male, resident of a dengue-endemic area, who presented with an acute onset of generalized pruritic wheals and angioedema in the absence of any …

- CONCLUSIONS: This case affirms that early recognition, a systematic protocol involving high-dose corticosteroids/intravenous immunoglobulin, and multidisciplinary collaboration are vital for managing life-threatening cutaneous irAEs, while also highlighting that robust pharmacovigilance and patient education are fundamental to the safe implementation of ICI-based combination therapies.

- Human herpesvirus 6 (HHV-6) is a neurotropic virus comprising two variants, HHV-6A and HHV-6B. Although HHV-6B is known to cause exanthem subitum in children, the clinical significance of HHV-6A remains poorly understood, particularly in adult and elderly populations. Here, we report a rare case of HHV-6A encephalitis in an immunosuppressed elderly patient. An 89-year-old male patient with chroni…

- CONCLUSIONS: HHV-6 encephalitis was uncommon. Rash, changes in neutrophil and platelet counts, along with elevated AST levels may help interpret CSF HHV-6 detection, but these findings require validation in larger studies incorporating virologic confirmation.

- Measles remains a leading vaccine-preventable cause of viral pneumonia worldwide. In people with advanced human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) its course is often atypical, lacking the hallmark rash and progressing rapidly to respiratory failure. We report a case of measles virus-associated acute respiratory distress syndrome in a profoundly immunosuppressed woman with HIV and chronic hepatitis B w…
