  • Onychomadesis: A Rare Manifestation of Coxsackievirus A6 Infection in an Adult Patient. [Case Reports]
    Cureus. 2026 Apr; 18(4):e107987.Panayiotou C, Marda A, … Koutete DC
  • Hand, foot, and mouth disease (HFMD) is a self-limiting viral illness predominantly affecting children under 10 years of age, with peak incidence in those aged one to four years. Recent outbreaks of Coxsackievirus A6 (CVA6) have increased its incidence across all age groups, including adults. Onychomadesis, a proximal nail plate detachment due to transient matrix arrest, is a recognized but under…
  • [A tourist in the Engadin with fever, rash and arthralgia]. [Case Reports]
    Praxis (Bern 1994). 2026 May; 115(5):141-144.Blasius L, Matousek M, Flury GP
  • We present the case of an HIV-positive patient with fever, arthralgia and maculopapular exanthema following a stay in Thailand, in whom acute chikungunya infection was serologically confirmed. Treatment was purely symptomatic, as no specific antiviral therapy is available. In view of the increasing number of cases in tropical endemic areas, but also in regions close to the borders of our neighbou…
  • Diagnostic Challenges in Pediatric Dermatologic Presentations Among Pediatricians. [Journal Article]
Pediatr Dermatol. 2026 May 26. [Online ahead of print]Boutis K, Pusic M, … Sibbald CPD
  • CONCLUSIONS: This study provides a comprehensive data-driven assessment of diagnostic challenges in pediatric dermatology across morphologies and diagnoses. Substantial diagnostic difficulty and confusion were observed for numerous diagnoses, many with potential patient safety consequences.
  • First confirmed report of equine coital exanthema in Uruguayan horses. [Case Reports]
    Vet Res Commun. 2026 May 09; 50(4).Machado M, Alves M, … Menchaca AVR
  • Equine Coital Exanthema (ECE) is a contagious venereal disease caused by Equid alphaherpesvirus 3 (EHV‑3). Although ECE is self-limiting, it causes significant economic losses to the global equine industry due to the temporary segregation of affected mares and stallions from breeding activities. This report describes the epidemiological, clinical, histological, and molecular findings from an outb…
  • A viral APOBEC3 antagonist distinguishes HHV-6A from HHV-6B. [Journal Article]
    Nat Commun. 2026 May 01; 17(1).Arii J, Aktar S, … Mori YNC
  • Human herpesviruses exhibit diverse pathogenic outcomes and the molecular reasons are not fully understood. Human herpesvirus 6B (HHV-6B) causes exanthema subitum and encephalitis, whereas the closely related HHV-6A is typically asymptomatic. Here, we show that cellular APOBEC3 enzymes restrict HHV-6A replication but not HHV-6B. HHV-6B expresses higher levels of the U28 protein, which binds multi…
  • Febrile multisystem illness after pilgrimage: allopurinol-induced DRESS mimicking infection. [Case Reports]
    BMJ Case Rep. 2026 Apr 24; 19(4).Okoth P, Stern E, Ali MBC
  • A man in his early 30s presented with fever, widespread pruritic rash and deranged liver function tests shortly after returning from a religious pilgrimage. Initial assessment focused on infectious and travel-related causes given recent international travel. Investigations revealed marked eosinophilia, lymphocytosis and a mixed hepatocellular-cholestatic liver injury. Extensive viral, parasitic a…
  • Parvovirus B19: how to interpret semi-quantitative viraemia values during high circulation of the virus in the population. [Journal Article]
Epidemiol Mikrobiol Imunol. 2026; 75(1):15-23.Nepovímová L, Prášil P, Kukla REM
  • CONCLUSIONS: To diagnose parvovirus B19 infection, it is important to know the possible clinical courses and typical laboratory findings, to have access to rapid PCR testing with quantitative viraemia values, and to be able to interpret these data. We consider viraemia levels of 10[7] copies/ml and above within a week of the onset of symptoms to confirm the diagnosis. Lower values need to be interpreted with caution. Based on the duration of symptoms and clinical course, we can consider an immunopathological reaction caused by parvovirus B19 or an incidental finding of viraemia in another diagnosis, especially when there is a high circulation of the virus in the population.
  • Atypical exanthem associated with human herpesvirus 7 active infection in a 24-year-old man. [Journal Article]
Dermatol Reports. 2026 Mar 30. [Online ahead of print]Drago F, Sbarra G, … Ciccarese GDR
  • Dear Editor, An otherwise healthy 24-year-old male patient presented to us with a three-day history of a diffuse, pruritic skin eruption preceded by low-grade fever and fatigue in the previous two weeks. Physical examination revealed an atypical exanthem with a polymorphic pattern characterized by diffuse erythematous macular lesions on the forehead, erythema, edema, and vesicles on the ears, ery…
  • Peri-Umbilicated Pseudopustules in Mpox. [Case Reports]
Oxf Med Case Reports. 2026 Mar; 2026(3):omag021.Gupta N, Gb S, … Praveen Kumar TOM
  • Mpox is an emerging zoonotic infection that has shown sustained human-to-human transmission since 2022, often through sexual contact networks. We report a case of mpox in a 43-year-old Indian-origin man residing in the United Arab Emirates who presented with fever, sore throat, and a painful genital ulcer, followed by widespread vesiculo-pseudopustular lesions. Examination revealed firm, well-cir…
  • Cutaneous Manifestations of Epstein-Barr Virus: A Unique Case of Gianotti-Crosti Syndrome. [Case Reports]
    J Cutan Pathol. 2026 Jul; 53(7):581-585.Manduca S, Truong C, … Orlow SJJC
  • Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) plays a role in the pathogenesis of a wide variety of acute and chronic diseases. Cutaneous manifestations of EBV include exanthems, chronic infections, malignancies, and small vessel vasculitides. Clinically and histologically, many of these conditions can imitate each other, making diagnosis challenging. In this report, we present a case of a child who developed Gianott…
  • An Uncommon Case of Disseminated Human Herpesvirus 6 Infection in an Immunocompetent Adult. [Case Reports]
Cureus. 2026 Jan; 18(1):e102404.Caetano IL, Cardoso JV, … Cipriano AC
  • Human herpesvirus 6 (HHV-6) is a common cause of infection in childhood, classically presenting as exanthema subitum. Viral reactivation causing severe disease in the setting of immunosuppression is well documented in the literature. However, HHV-6 infection in immunocompetent adults has been uncommonly reported. We describe the case of an immunocompetent man in his 50s who presented with fever, …
