- Validation of Deep Capillary Plexus OCTA Metrics as Predictors of Diabetic Retinopathy Complications: A One-Year Longitudinal Study. [Journal Article]Res Sq. 2026 Jun 28.RS
- Diabetic retinopathy (DR) can lead to vision-threatening complications, and tools that capture microvascular damage beyond standard clinical grading of disease severity may improve risk prediction. Optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) quantifies retinal perfusion, but its prognostic value in referable DR is not fully established. We aimed to validate baseline deep capillary plexus (DCP…

- Geriatric Assessment and Risk Prediction of Severe Complications in Glaucoma Surgery. [Journal Article]J Glaucoma. 2026 Jun 02. [Online ahead of print]JG
- CONCLUSIONS: GA scores are significantly associated with the risk of severe hemorrhagic complications after glaucoma surgery. Integrating GA-based risk stratification with traditional background factors enhances prediction of high-risk cases, facilitating more individualized and safer surgical planning for elderly patients with glaucoma.

- Evaluating the effectiveness of different topical anesthetic methods in reducing pain during intravitreal injections: a systematic review and meta-analysis. [Review]Int J Retina Vitreous. 2026 Jun 30. [Online ahead of print]IJ
- CONCLUSIONS: In conclusion, this systematic review and meta-analysis confirms that no single topical anesthetic is superior for intravitreal injections; all primary agents provide comparable, effective pain control. Topical application is safer than subconjunctival injection, which is associated with higher rates of hemorrhage and chemosis. Consequently, clinical protocols should standardize low-risk topical methods and incorporate simple non-pharmacological adjuncts, such as physical cooling, to optimize patient comfort.

- CONCLUSIONS: Certain cerebral, spinal, ophthalmological and skeletal features in children under 2 years with head injury may indicate AHT, with potential implications for accurate diagnosis and timely safeguarding. Results should be interpreted cautiously given the moderate to high RoB in the majority of assessments.

- Surgical Management of Vitreous Hemorrhage Secondary to Avulsed Retinal Vessels Without Retinal Tears. [Case Reports]J Vitreoretin Dis. 2026 Jun 28; :24741264261460185. [Online ahead of print]JV
- CONCLUSIONS: Dense VH in the setting of a PVD may preclude adequate examination of the fundus and require urgent PPV for timely management of possible retinal tears, retinal detachments, or avulsed retinal vessels. Retinal vessel avulsion without retinal tear is an uncommon but important cause of dense VH and may have favorable outcomes after vitrectomy.

- Comparative Outcomes of Pars Plana Vitrectomy Versus Combined Vitrectomy With Phacoemulsification in Proliferative Diabetic Retinopathy and Cataract. [Journal Article]Cureus. 2026 May; 18(5):e109723.C
- Background Proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR) often requires pars plana vitrectomy (PPV) for complications such as vitreous hemorrhage and tractional retinal detachment. Cataract progression following PPV is common, and the role of combined PPV with cataract extraction (PPVCE) remains debated. This study aimed to compare visual outcomes and post-operative complications between PPV alone and…

- Posterior Segment Risk Factors for Penetrating Keratoplasty Failure. [Journal Article]Am J Ophthalmol. 2026 Jun 27. [Online ahead of print]AJ
- CONCLUSIONS: Graft failure is a serious complication of PK. VH at the time of the PK and SO tamponade after the PK were associated with graft failure. In complex eyes that are undergoing PK grafts and that may also require posterior segment interventions, these findings may guide patient counseling and discussion of graft prognosis.

- Port Delivery System Vs Monthly Ranibizumab in VEGF-Driven Macular Disease: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis. [Review]Semin Ophthalmol. 2026 Jun 26; :1-9. [Online ahead of print]SO
- CONCLUSIONS: In this systematic review and meta-analysis of three randomized controlled trials, PDS was associated with visual and anatomical results comparable to monthly ranibizumab in patients with nAMD. Evidence in DME was limited to a single trial, and conclusions in this population should be considered exploratory. PDS was associated with a higher incidence of procedure- and device-related ocular complications.

- Sequential Surgical Management of Refractory Primary Angle-Closure Glaucoma in a Functionally Monocular Patient. [Case Reports]Life (Basel). 2026 May 28; 16(6).L
- CONCLUSIONS: This case notes an interesting coexistence of advanced adult-onset angle-closure glaucoma and a history of prematurity, though a direct causal or anatomical link remains speculative due to the lack of advanced anterior segment imaging. The clinical course underscores the necessity of aggressive surgical management for aqueous misdirection and the risk of recurrent intraocular hemorrhage in advanced glaucoma. While a definitive developmental relationship cannot be established from a single case, this presentation highlights that an individualized history of prematurity may be a noteworthy consideration during comprehensive long-term ophthalmic evaluations.

- Adjuvant Anti-VEGF in Vitrectomy for Proliferative Diabetic Retinopathy: Current Evidence, Timing Considerations, and Clinical Implications. [Journal Article]Curr Ophthalmol Rep. 2026; 14.CO
- This review evaluates the role of intravitreal anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (anti-VEGF) agents as peri-operative adjuvants in pars plana vitrectomy (PPV) for proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR). We synthesize current evidence on their use before, during, and after PPV, with emphasis on benefits, limitations, risks, and implications for surgical planning.

- Occlusive retinal vasculopathy on ultrawide-field fluorescein angiography in intraocular cytomegalovirus infection: a case series. [Journal Article]J Ophthalmic Inflamm Infect. 2026 Jun 23. [Online ahead of print]JO
- CONCLUSIONS: Intraocular cytomegalovirus infection in non-human-immunodeficiency-virus patients may present as hypertensive uveitis with an occlusive pan-retinal vasculopathy, with or without retinitis, best recognised on ultrawide-field fluorescein angiography. Antiviral therapy and laser may achieve initial control but are insufficient alone; long-term monitoring and patient counselling are essential to address recurrent haemorrhage and neovascular glaucoma.
