- Preservation of the Recurrent Laryngeal Nerve Invaded by Thyroid Cancer. [Journal Article]J Coll Physicians Surg Pak. 2026 Jun; 36(6):808-812.JC
- CONCLUSIONS: RLN preservation using IONM-guided shaving techniques can be a safe and effective alternative to nerve resection in selected patients with functional preoperative vocal cords. Partial nerve resection may also be feasible without compromising oncological safety. These findings highlight the importance of individualised surgical planning and suggest the need for standardised protocols in managing RLN invasion.

- Atypical Bilateral and Unilateral Vocal Cord Paralysis in Two Neonates With Williams Syndrome. [Journal Article]Case Rep Pediatr. 2026; 2026:8647206.CR
- Williams syndrome is a rare genetic disorder occurring in approximately 1 in 7500 individuals. The condition occurs as a result of deletions within chromosome 7q11.23, manifesting a unique phenotype with a wide constellation of symptoms. In this report of two cases, we present the care of two early-term infants with Williams syndrome. The first infant was noted to have bilateral paralysis of the …

- Iatrogenic botulinum Toxin Type A poisoning with persistent unilateral vocal cord paralysis: a case report and clinical implications. [Case Reports]Front Pharmacol. 2026; 17:1786491.FP
- With the continuous advancement of medical aesthetic technologies, botulinum toxin injection has emerged as a prevalent method for wrinkle removal and facial enhancement. However, improper administration can result in botulism incidents. This article presents a case of poisoning caused by the facial injection of Botulinum Toxin Type A. The patient was successfully treated through comprehensive me…

- Effect of Electromyography Findings of Traction-Related Signal Loss on Prognosis During Neuromonitored Thyroidectomy. [Journal Article]Head Neck. 2026 May 24. [Online ahead of print]HN
- CONCLUSIONS: In traction-related injury, electromyography features may contribute to the decision-making process. Type 2 LOS with low-amplitude is associated with a high likelihood of intraoperative recovery, potentially reducing the need for staged thyroidectomy.

- Isolated bilateral vocal cord paralysis without structural injury following blunt neck trauma: A case report. [Case Reports]Trauma Case Rep. 2026 May; 63:101337.TC
- CONCLUSIONS: Isolated traumatic BVCP is rare and may present with delayed airway compromise due to aspiration. Early airway protection and laryngoscopy are crucial. Recovery may occur with conservative care.

- Sustained Control of Hyperthyroidism in Graves' Disease: Comparison of Thyroidectomy and Long-Term Antithyroid Treatment. [Journal Article]Int J Endocrinol Metab. 2026 Jan 31; 24(1):e164940.IJ
- CONCLUSIONS: Treatment of hypothyroidism after total thyroidectomy was accompanied by less sustained euthyroidism during long-term follow-up compared with LT-MMI therapy. This difference may be important for the risk of mortality and cardiovascular events, demanding long-term studies for comparison of these outcomes in patients treated with total thyroidectomy and LT-MMI treatment.

- Postoperative Nasogastric Tube Syndrome Without Throat Pain Following Emergency Abdominal Surgery: A Case Report. [Journal Article]Clin Case Rep. 2026 May; 14:e72674.CC
- Vocal cord paralysis is a recognized complication of tracheal and nasogastric tube insertion. When associated with nasogastric tube insertion, it is termed nasogastric tube syndrome (NGTS). This syndrome is classically characterized by a triad of throat pain, presence of a nasogastric tube, and vocal cord paralysis, which is often bilateral. A 75-year-old man developed stridor and dyspnea without…

- Comparison of Vocal Fold Immobility Outcomes with Observation Versus Injection Laryngoplasty in Congenital Heart Surgery. [Journal Article]World J Pediatr Congenit Heart Surg. 2026 May 08; :21501351261432665. [Online ahead of print]WJ
- Objective: There are limited studies that compare the outcomes of injection laryngoplasty (IL) versus observation in pediatric cardiac surgery patients with vocal fold immobility (VFI). The current study compares outcomes of VFI in pediatric cardiac surgery patients who undergo observation versus those who receive IL treatments. Methods: This is a retrospective case study of 41 pediatric cardiac …

- Clinical and pathological findings in two Italian siblings of Romani ancestry with charcot-marie-tooth type 4D and review of the current literature. [Journal Article]J Neuromuscul Dis. 2026 May 06; :22143602261438536. [Online ahead of print]JN
- Charcot-Marie-tooth disease type 4D (CMT4D) is an early-onset, severe autosomal recessive demyelinating neuropathy, caused by mutations in the N-myc downstream-regulated gene 1 (NDRG1). Because of its rarity and predominance among specific ethnic groups, clinical knowledge remains limited. We report the case of two siblings of Romani ancestry, a 38-year-old man and a 40-year-old woman, with homoz…

- Injection Laryngoplasty as a Means of Resolving Symptomatic Vocal Cord Immobility After Congenital Heart Surgery. [Journal Article]Interdiscip Cardiovasc Thorac Surg. 2026 May 05; 41(5).IC
- CONCLUSIONS: Injection laryngoplasty as an intervention for vocal immobility and dysphagia following cardiovascular surgery is a low-risk procedure, allowing safer advancement of oral diet in most patients prior to discharge. We postulate it also improves dysphagia in the subacute phase and may lead to longer-term benefit in glottic protection.

- Long-Term Outcomes of Patients Undergoing Cricothyrotomy at a Tertiary Care Level One Trauma Center. [Journal Article]Laryngoscope. 2026 Apr 29. [Online ahead of print]L
- CONCLUSIONS: Cricothyrotomy remains a vital, life-saving intervention in the difficult airway algorithm but carries a risk of significant post-procedural complications, including dysphagia, pneumonia, dysphonia, subglottic stenosis, and vocal fold injury. These findings highlight the importance of meticulous postoperative care, particularly respiratory management, to reduce delays in conversion to tracheostomy and optimize long-term outcomes.
