  • "No carrot, no stick": Exploring premise identification programs across Canada. [Journal Article]
    One Health. 2026 Dec; 23:101512.Khoddami S, Fraser E, … Boyd EOH
  • Premises Identification (PID) programs in Canada assign unique identification numbers to locations where animals, such as livestock and poultry, are kept. These programs are provincial and territorial, with a purpose of supporting various animal disease outbreaks, natural disaster emergencies, and animal traceability. While most PID programs have been operating since early 2000s, there has been n…

  • Clinical spectrum and ascertainment pathways in pediatric female dystrophinopathy. [Journal Article]
    Ital J Pediatr. 2026 Jul 18. [Online ahead of print]Jiao H, Bai J, … Peng XIJ
  • CONCLUSIONS: Pediatric female dystrophinopathy shows a broad childhood spectrum and may be recognized before objective muscle weakness is documented. Separating ascertainment route from clinical status highlights recurrent or persistent hyperCKemia and mild exercise-related complaints as practical entry points for targeted neuromuscular assessment and longitudinal follow-up. Earlier recognition in childhood may support timely neuromuscular and cardiac surveillance, parental evaluation when appropriate, family-based genetic counseling, and future reproductive planning.
  • Care home staff experiences of delivering diabetes care: a grounded theory study. [Journal Article]
BMC Nurs. 2026 Jul 19. [Online ahead of print]Craig S, Anderson T, … Mitchell GBN
  • CONCLUSIONS: Diabetes care in care homes is sustained through adaptation, informal labour, and pragmatic risk management within systems that are not fully aligned to the demands of long-term diabetes care. Addressing this misalignment is essential to strengthening staff capability and informing the development of contextually appropriate educational and service-level interventions for care home settings.
  • Facial diplegia as the first manifestation of Burkitt lymphoma with a Guillain-Barré syndrome-like presentation: a case report. [Journal Article]
BMC Neurol. 2026 Jul 18. [Online ahead of print]Demir IY, Kilic AK, Barut BOBN
  • CONCLUSIONS: Burkitt lymphoma with central nervous system involvement can present with a GBS-compatible acute neuropathic phenotype, including facial diplegia. The initial diagnosis of GBS may be clinically reasonable in a time-sensitive setting; however, major systemic and hematologic red flags should prompt early parallel evaluation for malignancy. Peripheral blood and CSF flow cytometry may provide decisive diagnostic evidence when biopsy or further work-up is not feasible.
  • Dynamic stability is tied to gait assistance when walking with a hip exoskeleton. [Journal Article]
Sci Rep. 2026 Jul 18. [Online ahead of print]Mohammadzadeh Gonabadi A, Fallahtafti F, … Burnfield JMSR
  • As age increases, factors such as visual impairments, joint instability, muscle weakness, and unreliable postural reflexes contribute to reduced stability and a higher risk of fall. Weak hip abductors/adductors further increase this risk. Hip flexors and extensors, which govern sagittal-plane limb advancement and propulsion, also play a critical role in dynamic walking stability. While traditiona…

  • A 28-year-old male with a recent history of stroke presented with fever and generalized weakness. His previous magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) demonstrated a subacute infarct in the right MCA territory with subarachnoid haemorrhage and distal M1 segment occlusion, along with mild narrowing and beading of the right supraclinoid internal carotid artery (ICA). Blood cultures yielded Abiotrophia def…
