- Physical Exercise as an Adjuvant to Glucocorticoid Therapy: Clinical Recommendations and Evidence Review. [Review]Sports Med. 2026 Jun 08. [Online ahead of print]SM
- Glucocorticoids are extensively prescribed for managing immune-mediated and inflammatory diseases. While clinically effective, prolonged glucocorticoid therapy induces adverse effects that compromise physical function and may attenuate the benefits of exercise interventions. Current exercise guidelines, however, inadequately address the complexities of concurrent glucocorticoid treatment. This na…

- Associations between multiple metabolic indices and circadian syndrome: a cross-sectional study with mediation analysis of the C-reactive protein triglyceride glucose index. [Journal Article]Hormones (Athens). 2026 Jun 08. [Online ahead of print]H
- CONCLUSIONS: This large‑scale cross‑sectional study identified significant, often non‑linear, associations between multiple novel metabolic indices and CircS. CTI, a composite marker of inflammation and metabolism, showed a substantial indirect effect cross‑sectionally consistent with mediation in these associations. These hypothesis‑generating findings highlight the potential importance of the "metabolic‑inflammatory" axis in relation to CircS and offer epidemiological clues for early identification and risk stratification. Prospective studies are needed to assess temporality and causality.

- Frailty and health resource utilization in 5450 adults with acute myeloid leukaemia: A population-based study from Ontario, Canada. [Journal Article]Br J Haematol. 2026 Jun 08. [Online ahead of print]BJ
- Frailty is a recognized prognostic factor in acute myeloid leukaemia (AML), yet its independent impact on healthcare resource utilization remains understudied. This study evaluated frailty's association with healthcare resource utilization (HRU) burden during the first year of AML treatment. We conducted a population-based retrospective cohort study using linked administrative databases in Ontari…

- Evaluation of the effectiveness of artemether-lumefantrine and artesunate-pyronaridine each combined with single low-dose primaquine in adults with Plasmodium falciparum infection in Ethiopia: a phase 2/3, observer-masked, randomised, parallel-group trial. [Journal Article]Lancet Microbe. 2026 Dec 18; :101344. [Online ahead of print]LM
- CONCLUSIONS: Our findings reinforce the continued use of artemether-lumefantrine plus primaquine for treating uncomplicated P falciparum malaria. Pyronaridine-artesunate plus primaquine also shows promise as an alternative regimen. Continued surveillance remains essential to safeguarding both therapeutic effectiveness and diagnostic accuracy.

- Efficacy of chloroquine plus low-dose primaquine and pyronaridine-artesunate plus low-dose primaquine against Plasmodium vivax malaria in adults and transmission to mosquitoes in Ethiopia: a phase 2/3, observer-masked, randomised, parallel-group trial. [Journal Article]Lancet Microbe. 2026 Dec 31; :101342. [Online ahead of print]LM
- CONCLUSIONS: Both regimens treated P vivax malaria with high efficacy. Pyronaridine-artesunate plus low-dose primaquine rapidly interrupted transmission. The findings support further evaluation of pyronaridine-artesunate plus low-dose primaquine as a unified treatment strategy in co-endemic settings to improve malaria control and support malaria elimination efforts.

- Recurrent bradycardia and hypotension after Oral Lacosamide during hospital boarding in the emergency department: A case report. [Case Reports]Am J Emerg Med. 2026 Jun 01; 108:23-25. [Online ahead of print]AJ
- Lacosamide is a third-generation antiseizure medication that enhances slow inactivation of voltage-gated sodium channels. Although generally well tolerated, it has been associated with cardiac conduction abnormalities, most commonly in the setting of intravenous administration, overdose, or dose escalation. We report a case of a 79-year-old woman with a history of hypertension (treated with losar…

- Atraumatic intraneural heterotopic ossification of the common peroneal nerve: illustrative case. [Journal Article]J Neurosurg Case Lessons. 2026 Jun 08; 11(23).JN
- CONCLUSIONS: This case highlights the atypical presentation of NO, diagnostic workup, and surgical interventions. It emphasizes the need for a high index of suspicion in patients with unexplained, progressive mononeuropathies. When conventional imaging and electrodiagnostic studies are inconclusive, early referral for advanced imaging and specialist evaluation may be critical. Delayed recognition can result in significant neurological impairment. https://thejns.org/doi/10.3171/CASE25623.

- How Would You Manage This Patient With Iron Deficiency Anemia? Grand Rounds Discussion From Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. [Journal Article]Ann Intern Med. 2026 Jun 09. [Online ahead of print]AIM
- Iron deficiency anemia (IDA) is the most common cause of anemia worldwide and a major cause of disability, manifesting with symptoms including fatigue, weakness, exercise intolerance, worsening heart failure, impaired concentration, irritability, and depression. Women of reproductive age are disproportionately affected due to menstrual blood loss and gynecologic disorders. Iron deficiency anemia …

- What is known about digital literacy, digital inclusion and attitudes to digital health tools among older adults undergoing surgery? A systematic review and narrative synthesis. [Journal Article]Age Ageing. 2026 Jun 01; 55(6).AA
- CONCLUSIONS: Digital perioperative tools are increasingly available but there is a paucity of data on digital literacy, access and usage in the older surgical population. Studies frequently excluded those living with frailty, multimorbidity and cognitive or sensory impairments. Further research is needed to understand the needs, attitudes and digital health literacy of this population, to facilitate codesign of accessible, acceptable and effective perioperative digital health tools.

- Long-term impact of a senior volunteer-driven frailty check programme on care dependency and expenditures: a 10-year population-based cohort study in Japan. [Journal Article]Age Ageing. 2026 Jun 01; 55(6).AA
- CONCLUSIONS: This programme was associated with lower LTC dependency and slower growth in combined medical and long-term care expenditures. Implemented in 106 municipalities in Japan, this volunteer-led, community-based model may offer a low-cost, scalable intervention to promote healthy ageing and sustainability in super-aged societies, with relevance for countries facing population ageing and fiscal constraints.

- What does frailty mean to older, racialised minority migrants living in the UK? A qualitative exploration of meaning and interpretation. [Journal Article]Age Ageing. 2026 Jun 01; 55(6).AA
- CONCLUSIONS: Healthcare professionals must consider that older, racially minoritised patients may have never encountered the term frailty before in any type of setting. This will have a direct impact on candidacy and the negotiated access to and uptake of healthcare services.

- Rehospitalization and the Association of Postoperative Delirium With Cognitive Decline in Older Adults. [Journal Article]JAMA Intern Med. 2026 Jun 08. [Online ahead of print]JIM
- CONCLUSIONS: In this cohort study, contrary to expectations, rehospitalization did not mediate the association between delirium and long-term cognitive decline. Future work will be needed to elucidate the pathways by which delirium is associated with long-term cognitive decline.

- Prevalence of osteosarcopenia in postmenopausal women: a systematic review and meta-analysis. [Review]J Endocrinol Invest. 2026 Jun 08. [Online ahead of print]JE
- CONCLUSIONS: This meta-analysis found a pooled OSP prevalence of 15.6% among postmenopausal women across included studies. Given high heterogeneity, this estimate should be interpreted with caution, as it reflects diverse settings and diagnostic approaches. Exploratory subgroup analyses suggested higher prevalence in developing regions, Asian populations, and hospital‑based settings. Standardized criteria and integrated bone‑muscle assessment may improve early identification and management of OSP in this high-risk population.
