- Assessing the efficacy of a single-cycle measurement and adjustment strategy for direct oral anticoagulants in frail older patients: rationale and design of the DOAC-FRAIL randomized controlled trial. [Randomized Controlled Trial]Res Pract Thromb Haemost. 2026 May; 10(4):106800.RP
- CONCLUSIONS: The DOAC-FRAIL RCT will provide evidence on whether a plasma concentration-guided DOAC dosing strategy improves clinical outcomes compared with standard care in frail older patients. The findings may contribute to more personalized anticoagulant therapy in this vulnerable population.

- Acute Motor Axonal Neuropathy (AMAN) Variant of Guillain-Barré Syndrome Following Influenza Vaccination as the Initial Presentation of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus With Lupus Nephritis. [Case Reports]Cureus. 2026 Jun; 18(6):e111062.C
- Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) is an acute immune-mediated polyradiculoneuropathy that commonly follows infections and, less frequently, vaccination. Although peripheral nervous system involvement may occur in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), GBS as the initial manifestation of SLE is uncommon, particularly in adolescents. Herein, we describe the case of a previously healthy 17-year-old Saudi f…

- "No carrot, no stick": Exploring premise identification programs across Canada. [Journal Article]One Health. 2026 Dec; 23:101512.OH
- Premises Identification (PID) programs in Canada assign unique identification numbers to locations where animals, such as livestock and poultry, are kept. These programs are provincial and territorial, with a purpose of supporting various animal disease outbreaks, natural disaster emergencies, and animal traceability. While most PID programs have been operating since early 2000s, there has been n…

- Outbreak of Dengue fever in Edo State, South-South, Nigeria: Case Series. [Review]Niger Med J. 2025; 66(5):2034-2044.NM
- Dengue fever (DF) remains an emerging but underrecognized public health threat in Nigeria, often misdiagnosed as malaria or other acute febrile illnesses due to overlapping symptoms. This case series documents the first clinically and laboratory-confirmed outbreak of dengue in Edo State, Nigeria, between December 2024 and June 2025. Seven patients were diagnosed using RT-PCR atIrrua Specialist Te…

- Degenerative lumbar scoliosis with stenosis: how should Cobb angle inform decompression versus fusion? A systematic review. [Review]N Am Spine Soc J. 2026 Sep; 27:100919.NA
- CONCLUSIONS: Cobb angle is a useful decision aid, but not a stand-alone indication. Operative choice in DLS with stenosis should integrate curve magnitude with stenosis pattern, instability, sagittal alignment, symptoms, comorbidity, frailty, and the expected burden of surgery.

- Clinical spectrum and ascertainment pathways in pediatric female dystrophinopathy. [Journal Article]Ital J Pediatr. 2026 Jul 18. [Online ahead of print]IJ
- CONCLUSIONS: Pediatric female dystrophinopathy shows a broad childhood spectrum and may be recognized before objective muscle weakness is documented. Separating ascertainment route from clinical status highlights recurrent or persistent hyperCKemia and mild exercise-related complaints as practical entry points for targeted neuromuscular assessment and longitudinal follow-up. Earlier recognition in childhood may support timely neuromuscular and cardiac surveillance, parental evaluation when appropriate, family-based genetic counseling, and future reproductive planning.

- Medial patellofemoral ligament reconstruction in skeletally immature patients: distal versus proximal femoral physis fixation. [Journal Article]J Orthop Surg Res. 2026 Jul 18. [Online ahead of print]JO
- CONCLUSIONS: Both proximal and distal femoral physis fixation for MPFL reconstruction yield similar clinical outcomes and complication rates in skeletally immature patients. However, due to the limited sample size of this study, the current conclusion should be interpreted with caution.

- Care home staff experiences of delivering diabetes care: a grounded theory study. [Journal Article]BMC Nurs. 2026 Jul 19. [Online ahead of print]BN
- CONCLUSIONS: Diabetes care in care homes is sustained through adaptation, informal labour, and pragmatic risk management within systems that are not fully aligned to the demands of long-term diabetes care. Addressing this misalignment is essential to strengthening staff capability and informing the development of contextually appropriate educational and service-level interventions for care home settings.

- Facial diplegia as the first manifestation of Burkitt lymphoma with a Guillain-Barré syndrome-like presentation: a case report. [Journal Article]BMC Neurol. 2026 Jul 18. [Online ahead of print]BN
- CONCLUSIONS: Burkitt lymphoma with central nervous system involvement can present with a GBS-compatible acute neuropathic phenotype, including facial diplegia. The initial diagnosis of GBS may be clinically reasonable in a time-sensitive setting; however, major systemic and hematologic red flags should prompt early parallel evaluation for malignancy. Peripheral blood and CSF flow cytometry may provide decisive diagnostic evidence when biopsy or further work-up is not feasible.

- Comparative analysis of stereotactic radiosurgery and microsurgery for vestibular schwannoma: a clinical and radiological evaluation. [Journal Article]J Neurooncol. 2026 Jul 18; 179(1).JN
- CONCLUSIONS: Microsurgery provides immediate and substantial tumor reduction without increased morbidity, while SRS maintains radiographic stability with favorable clinical outcomes. These findings underscore the complementary roles of both modalities and support the Koos classification as a practical and reliable framework for treatment selection.

- Dynamic stability is tied to gait assistance when walking with a hip exoskeleton. [Journal Article]Sci Rep. 2026 Jul 18. [Online ahead of print]SR
- As age increases, factors such as visual impairments, joint instability, muscle weakness, and unreliable postural reflexes contribute to reduced stability and a higher risk of fall. Weak hip abductors/adductors further increase this risk. Hip flexors and extensors, which govern sagittal-plane limb advancement and propulsion, also play a critical role in dynamic walking stability. While traditiona…

- Reporting of geriatric participant characteristics and inclusion of older adults in infectious diseases clinical trials: a secondary analysis of a systematic review. [Journal Article]Clin Microbiol Infect. 2026 Jul 18. [Online ahead of print]CM
- CONCLUSIONS: Older adults remain underrepresented in infectious diseases RCTs. Their inclusion is essential in ensuring generalizability of results to the population encountered in clinical practice. Geriatric characteristics remain underreported even in geriatric-focused RCTs despite the heterogeneity of older adults.
