- Multiple co-infections and risk of severe outcomes in children with respiratory syncytial virus infection. [Journal Article]BMC Infect Dis. 2026 May 07. [Online ahead of print]BI
- CONCLUSIONS: Co-infections in RSV-infected children were associated with distinct clinical patterns and differences in disease severity. Multiple co-infections were associated with a higher proportion of severe pneumonia and prolonged illness. Identifying co-infection patterns may help detect high-risk patients early and guide individualized management.

- Prevalence and clinical features of food allergy in preschool children in Taizhou, China: a cross-sectional study. [Journal Article]BMC Pediatr. 2026 May 06. [Online ahead of print]BPed
- CONCLUSIONS: FA is common among preschool children in Taizhou; however, prevalence estimates reflect clinically presumed FA (history plus SPT/sIgE) rather than OFC-confirmed disease. Eggs, milk, and seafood were the predominant allergens, and affected children frequently had atopic comorbidities and a family history of allergic disease. These findings provide region-specific evidence to inform early identification and management strategies.

- Use of respiratory oscillometry in infants: a scoping review. [Review]
- We mapped the evidence on the use of respiratory oscillometry (RO) in infants through a scoping review of the literature. We conducted a systematic search of Medline, Embase, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, Google Scholar, Cochrane Controlled Register of Trials, and clinical trial registries from inception to 1st September 2025. We included documents on the use of RO in infants up to 1 year. We…

- Clinical predictors of persistence in IgE-mediated cow's milk allergy in children with multiple food allergies. [Journal Article]Ir J Med Sci. 2026 May 07. [Online ahead of print]IJ
- CONCLUSIONS: Severe clinical reactions initially presenting with systemic and respiratory involvement are independent clinical predictors of failure to develop tolerance to IgE-mediated cow's milk allergy in children with multiple food allergies.

- CONCLUSIONS: Symptoms leading to surgical removal were observed in only 15% of children with CPM, with CVRmax greater than 1 cm2 being a significant risk factor. Elective surgery did not modify the frequency of less severe symptoms.

- BACKGROUND Foreign body aspiration (FBA) is a life-threatening pediatric emergency, most common in 1-3-year-olds due to immature swallowing reflexes and exploratory oral behaviors. Common aspirated items include nuts, food particles and small toys, presenting with variable symptoms such as cough, dyspnea, wheezing or acute respiratory failure. Delayed diagnosis or improper management causes sever…

- Assessment of particulate matter exposure levels and associated respiratory symptoms among oil seed processing factories workers. [Journal Article]Sci Rep. 2026 May 04. [Online ahead of print]SR
- Studies have shown that levels of fungal contamination and mycotoxin concentrations in oil-producing seeds vary across regions. In addition, extreme exposure to seeds dust particulate matter can lead to respiratory health problems. In Ethiopia oil-seeds processing factories workers exposure to particulate matter and magnitude of its respiratory symptoms have not been widely explored. To determine…

- Beyond the wheeze: unveiling a rare diagnosis behind the asthma mask. [Journal Article]Thorax. 2026 May 04. [Online ahead of print]T
- A 64-year-old male presented with progressive breathlessness and wheezing, initially suspected to be worsening asthma. Inhaled therapies were commenced and further investigations were conducted, including CT thorax, bronchoscopy, pulmonary function tests and autoimmune screening. Imaging revealed tracheobronchomalacia and bronchoscopy confirmed a grossly abnormal endobronchial tree with appearanc…

- Cough and Airway Responses to Direct and Indirect Challenges: An Integrative Review. [Review]Respir Care. 2026 May; 71(5):501-510.RC
- Individuals with classic asthma can present with wheezing, dyspnea, chest tightness, and/or cough. Notably, cough can be the main or only symptom of asthma, termed cough variant asthma. Although there are numerous guidelines for asthma, the diagnosis and management of cough in asthma remain challenging because of its complex physiology. By definition, cough variant asthma excludes individuals wit…

- Unique nasal cell states induced by common pediatric respiratory viruses. [Journal Article]bioRxiv. 2026 Apr 24.B
- Respiratory viral infections in early childhood are major drivers of acute morbidity and long-term airway disease, yet how distinct viruses remodel the pediatric nasal mucosa at cellular resolution remains unresolved. Here, we generated a single-cell RNA sequencing atlas of 335,174 nasal epithelial and immune cells from 132 children under five years of age with SARS-CoV-2, rhinovirus, or respirat…

- Erasmus syndrome is an uncommon condition marked by the onset of systemic sclerosis (SSc) due to extended exposure to silica. In this case, we highlight the significant health risks associated with silica exposure in artisanal mining (galamsey), leading to the development of Erasmus syndrome. We present the case of a 33-year-old male artisanal miner with a 14-year work history who presented with …

- Asthma is a chronic lower respiratory system disease with high global prevalence and mortality rates. It is characterized by several clinical symptoms, including coughing, wheezing, dyspnea, and breathing difficulties. Despite extensive research on asthma treatment, no definitive cure exists. Current treatments primarily focus on symptom relief through corticosteroid agents and bronchodilators. V…
