  • Revisiting Antiplatelet Therapy in Acute Carotid Tandem Lesions. [Review]
    J Clin Med. 2026 Apr 22; 15(9).Zupan M, Straus L, … Frol SJC
  • Background/Objectives: Acute carotid tandem lesions (TLs), defined by concurrent cervical internal carotid artery (ICA) stenosis or occlusion and intracranial large vessel occlusion, occur in 10-20% of patients undergoing mechanical thrombectomy (MT) for acute ischemic stroke (AIS). Optimal periprocedural antiplatelet management during emergent carotid artery stenting (eCAS) remains uncertain, pa…
  • Stent Thrombogenicity is Modulated by Design: Wire Crossings in Braided Stents are Focal Thrombogenic Niches. [Journal Article]
Thromb Haemost. 2026 Apr 09. [Online ahead of print]Kern AY, Charle L, … Mangin PHTH
  • Stent thrombosis remains a critical and fatal complication of angioplasty with stenting, particularly in tandem lesion patients, where the incidence can exceed 20%. A better understanding of the thrombogenicity of clinically used stents could reduce the occurrence of stent thrombosis. We have developed a macrofluidic model mimicking the geometry of the human carotid artery, which is perfectly suit…
  • Glycoprotein IIb/IIIa Agents in Acute Ischemic Stroke: A Niche in the Making? [Review]
    Stroke. 2026 Mar; 57(3):850-853.Yogendrakumar V, Lun R, … Ganesh AS
  • Variations in thrombus composition significantly influence the efficacy of conventional thrombolytic therapies in acute ischemic stroke. Emerging treatments, designed to target distinct components of the thrombus, are currently under evaluation and offer renewed hope for enhancing clot dissolution and improving clinical outcomes. This review will examine the current evidence surrounding glycoprot…
  • Coronary artery ectasia presenting as acute coronary syndrome and misinterpreted as coronary artery perforation: Case report. [Case Reports]
    Medicine (Baltimore). 2025 May 02; 104(18):e42330.Jeon H, Cho JM, … Park CBM
  • CONCLUSIONS: Stagnant flow in dilated vessels can cause local dye deposition, which may resemble procedure-induced perforation or dissection, necessitating heightened caution during PCI. Intravascular ultrasound is valuable for accurate assessment of lesions in CAE. Thrombectomy and glycoprotein IIb/IIIa inhibitors would be considered to manage high thrombus burden. Due to its diverse clinical presentations, CAE requires an individualized strategy, and can also be treated with simple PCI followed by dual antiplatelet therapy.
  • Red blood cell aggregation within a blood clot causes platelet-independent clot shrinkage. [Journal Article]
Blood Adv. 2025 Jul 22; 9(14):3418-3428.Peshkova AD, Rednikova EK, … Weisel JWBA
  • Platelet-driven blood clot contraction (retraction) is important for hemostasis and thrombosis. Red blood cells (RBCs) occupy approximately half of the clot volume, but their possible active contribution to contraction is unknown. The work was aimed at elucidating the ability of RBCs to promote clot shrinkage. To distinguish the effects of platelets and RBCs, we formed thrombin-induced clots from…
