- The Application of Machine Learning in the Development of Co-Amorphous Dry Powder Inhalation. [Journal Article]AAPS PharmSciTech. 2026 May 05; 27(4).AP
- Besides improving drug solubility and stability, co-amorphous systems (COAMS) have recently been reported to enhance the pulmonary delivery efficiency of dry powder inhalation (DPI), offering a novel approach to the development of DPI. Conventional drug formulation development utilizes trial-and-error experiments, which require a laborious workload and resources. Moreover, the correlation of form…

- The precision bronchodilator therapy in airflow limitation with asthma defining reversibility: An appraisal through pharmaco-responsiveness-based real-world observation. [Journal Article]Lung India. 2026 May 01; 43(3):258-265.LI
- CONCLUSIONS: The pharmaco-responsiveness based add-on LAMA is seen to improve lung function of asthma in early GINA stages with parallel, though not significant, changes in the post-exercise recovery response (Desat-max in 2CT). The observation demands attention to consider upfront prescription of LAMA based on universal performance of GP responsiveness in asthma.

- A Novel Homozygous SCNN1B Variant Causing Severe Systemic Pseudohypoaldosteronism Type 1B in a Saudi Infant: A Case Report. [Case Reports]Cureus. 2026 Mar; 18(3):e106241.C
- Pseudohypoaldosteronism type 1B (PHA1B) is a rare autosomal recessive disorder characterized by systemic resistance to aldosterone due to pathogenic variants in epithelial sodium channel (ENaC) subunit genes. We report an eight-month-old Saudi male infant, born to consanguineous parents, who initially presented at seven days of life with persistent hyperkalemia, hyponatremia, and metabolic acidos…

- Prolonged In-Flight Management of Life-Threatening Pediatric Asthma on a Long-Haul Commercial Flight: A Case Report. [Case Reports]Air Med J. 2026; 45(3):283-285.AM
- A 3-year-old male passenger developed acute respiratory distress approximately 30 minutes after takeoff during an international flight from the United States to Addis Ababa. Despite multiple rounds of nebulized albuterol and escalating oxygen therapy, his respiratory status progressively deteriorated. A multidisciplinary team of onboard physicians administered epinephrine and hydrocortisone from …

- Qualitative beta-2-adrenoceptor signaling in the regulation of human airway epithelia mucin and cytokine production. [Journal Article]Respir Res. 2026 May 01. [Online ahead of print]RR
- CONCLUSIONS: These data implicate arrestin-dependent β2AR signaling augmenting airway epithelial mucin production as a contributor to the previously-demonstrated pro-inflammatory effects of β2AR agonism in vivo. Moreover, they suggest that beta-agonist effects on the cytokine profile in the allergen-inflamed lung may be influenced by specific asthmatic endotypes and involve cooperativity among multiple cell types.

- Drug supply shortages and their perceived consequences for patients: a questionnaire survey of German and Austrian physicians. [Journal Article]Eur J Clin Pharmacol. 2026 May 01; 82(5).EJ
- CONCLUSIONS: Supply shortages can foster antimicrobial resistance through the use of antibacterials with a higher potential for resistance. The success of alternative treatments was not always considered to be very good in comparison to the original medication.

- IgE-mediated cocoa allergy: a pediatric case report and review of the literature. [Case Reports]Front Pediatr. 2026; 14:1763504.FP
- CONCLUSIONS: This case describes a rare but definite diagnosis of IgE-mediated cocoa allergy confirmed by oral food challenge. Diagnostic assessments should carefully exclude hidden allergens and consider alternative mechanisms, including contamination of cocoa products during processing or manufacturing. Clinicians should be aware that, although uncommon, cocoa allergies can cause anaphylaxis, and a comprehensive diagnostic workup, including oral challenge, is essential to guide correct management and patient counselling.

- Inhaler recognition as a marker for adherence in pediatric patients with asthma. [Journal Article]Allergy Asthma Proc. 2026 May 01; 47(3):184-189.AA
- Background: Poor adherence to daily asthma controller medications contributes to increased emergency department (ED) visits and hospitalizations in children. A simple bedside tool to assess adherence is needed in clinical settings. Objective: The objective was to determine whether a child's or a caregiver's ability to recognize the prescribed daily controller inhaler is associated with poor adher…

- CONCLUSIONS: Early recognition of severe extra-renal complications in PSGN is critical. Intensive supportive care-including mechanical ventilation, meticulous fluid and electrolyte management, and appropriate sedation-is essential for survival in cases of acute pulmonary edema and critical hyperkalemia.

- Skin-localized sympathetic nerve-keratinocyte crosstalk fuels psoriatic inflammation via neutrophil recruitment. [Journal Article]Chin Med J (Engl). 2026 Apr 23. [Online ahead of print]CM
- CONCLUSIONS: Activation of skin local sympathetic signaling in KCs induces CXCL1 production via the ADRB2-CREB pathway, which contributes to recruiting neutrophils to the skin lesions and fuels psoriatic inflammation.

- Challenges in Parental Management of Aerosol Therapy: A Single-Center Study of Children with Early-Onset Wheezing. [Journal Article]Turk Arch Pediatr. 2025 Nov 20; 61(1):30-38.TA
- CONCLUSIONS: The findings of this study highlight the significant influence of parental perceptions, attitudes, and behaviors on the effectiveness of aerosol therapy in young children with early-onset recurrent wheezing. Improving the knowledge of both health care professionals and parents about nebulizer treatment steps can enhance the clinical outcomes of patients.

- Subject-Specific Whole-Lung CFPD Coupled with PBPK/PD to Predict Inhaled Bronchodilator Response in Asthmatic and Healthy Subjects. [Journal Article]J Aerosol Sci. 2026 May; 194.JA
- Accurate prediction of bronchodilator performance remains challenging. We present a coupled computational fluid and particle dynamics (CFPD) and physiologically-based pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamics (PBPK/PD) framework that leverages subject-specific CT-derived airway trees and airflow distributions to model regional lung exposure and the resulting clinical effect, quantified as the change in Fo…

- CONCLUSIONS: There was no evidence that combined paper and digital feedback was more effective than digital-only feedback, despite the background of mixed improvements following both interventions. Challenges remain to understanding the barriers to influencing the prescribing of preventer inhalers and transitioning inhaler devices towards low-carbon 'green' alternatives; however, this study demonstrated the value of an efficient 'real-world' trial embedded within an existing quality improvement initiative.
