- An in vitro collagen gel contraction assay to assess the relaxing effect of potential pharmacological alternatives to oxytetracycline on foals' tendons. [Journal Article]
- Oxytetracycline has been successfully used to treat flexural limb deformities in foals. However, its antimicrobial properties and potential adverse side effects warrant the investigation of alternatives. Inhibition of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) or collagen cross-linking have been suggested as possible mechanisms of action. This study assessed the influence of potential alternative substance…

- Microfluidics-assisted Aprotinin-based nano-carrier for Valproic acid delivery. [Journal Article]J Control Release. 2026 Jun 10; 394:114910.JC
- Nanomedicine strategies leveraging bio-derived nano-carriers offer promising avenues for precision chemotherapy. Here, we introduce a microfluidics-assisted nanoconjugate platform that repurposes Aprotinin (Apr); a naturally occurring protein, as an enhanced anti-cancer nano-carrier for Valproic Acid (VPA), a histone deacetylase inhibitor with anticancer properties. The resulting Aprotinin-Valpro…

- Protease inhibitor regulation of proteins involved in heat-induced leaf senescence in creeping bentgrass. [Journal Article]Ann Bot. 2026 Mar 05. [Online ahead of print]AB
- CONCLUSIONS: The protease inhibitor regulated various proteins that could be involved in mitigating heat-induced leaf senescence. Identification of upstream molecular factors for the specific protease inhibitor-responsive proteins will provide further insight into mechanisms of controlling leaf senescence.

- HSP90α and KLK6 Coregulate Stress-Induced Prostate Cancer Cell Motility. [Journal Article]
- Prostate cancer (PCa) metastasis is reliant on the activity of proteases, such as matrix metalloproteinase-2 (MMP-2). While increased extracellular heat shock protein 90α (eHSP90α) has been linked to increased MMP-2 activity, this has not been examined in the context of cellular stress. We examined stress-induced eHSP90α in human prostate cell lines by immunoblot. Fluorometric gelatin dequenching…

- Isolation and Characterization of a Biocontrol Serine Protease from Pseudomonas aeruginosa FZM498 Involved in Antagonistic Activity Against Blastocystis sp. Parasite. [Journal Article]
- The intestine is considered a habitat for both bacteria and parasites. In this study, many fecal bacterial isolates and the protozoan Blastocystis sp. were recovered from stool samples of individuals with gastrointestinal conditions. Isolated bacteria were tested for extracellular protease production, and the most potent producer was identified by 16SrDNA gene sequencing as P. aeruginosa FZM498. …

- Effectiveness and safety of antifibrinolytic agents in off-pump coronary artery bypass grafting: a systematic review and meta-analysis. [Systematic Review]Braz J Anesthesiol. 2026 Mar-Apr; 76(2):844731.BJ
- CONCLUSIONS: In off-pump CABG, antifibrinolytics reduced the need for blood transfusion while reducing thromboembolic events and overall mortality in RCT subgroups, while pooled analyses combining RCTs and observational studies did not demonstrate significant reductions. - Human CELA1 has pancreatic elastase-like activity. [Journal Article]Biochimie. 2026 Apr; 243:18-20.B
- CELA3A and CELA3B are the primary elastases secreted by the human pancreas that are digestive enzymes and are markers for pancreatic exocrine insufficiency. CELA1, another family member, is not expressed in the human pancreas but has been detected in the mouse lung and human keratinocytes. However, the enzymatic activity and mechanism of function of human CELA1 has not been previously demonstrate…

- HSP90α and KLK6 Co-Regulate Stress-Induced Prostate Cancer Cell Motility. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: We identify a novel stress-induced extracellular network that regulates MMP-2 activity and cell motility. We identified KLK6 as a stress-induced extracellular protease leading to decreased MMP-2 activity and cellular invasion, while eHSP90α is required for the rescue of MMP-2 activity once KLK6 is neutralized.

- Comparative Efficacy of Perioperative Blood Conservation Agents in Pediatric Cranial Vault Remodeling: A Systematic Review and Network Meta-Analysis. [Systematic Review]Neurosurgery. 2026 Mar 01; 98(3):510-519.N
- CONCLUSIONS: Our meta-analysis reveals that TXA + ACA reduce red blood cell transfusion rates and volumes, with TXA + EPO + iron and ACA + EPO being most effective. This highlights the superiority of combination therapies and underscores the need for structured multimodal protocols in perioperative blood conservation for pediatric CVR.

- Multiscale theoretical study of infrared spectroscopy for the thermal denaturation process of aprotinin. [Journal Article]
- The stability of protein secondary structure is the basis for the realization of biological functions, and temperature induces conformational changes in proteins by disrupting the equilibrium of the internal hydrogen bond network. This study systematically elucidates the temperature-induced unfolding mechanism of aprotinin based on one-dimensional infrared spectroscopy (1D IR) and two-dimensional…

- Therapeutic potential of tubular serine protease inhibitors in proteinuria. [Review]Am J Physiol Renal Physiol. 2025 Dec 01; 329(6):F753-F768.AJ
- Proteinuria is both a predictor and mediator of chronic kidney disease (CKD) progression, but treatment options targeting its underlying mechanisms are limited. Emerging evidence suggests that aberrantly filtered serine proteases contribute to the pathogenesis of proteinuria and progressive kidney injury through multiple pathways, including podocyte injury, inappropriate activation of the epithel…

- Rotational Thromboelastometry (ROTEM) Hemostasis Profile in Pregnant Women with Preeclampsia and Their Offspring: An Observational Study. [Journal Article]Diagnostics (Basel). 2025 Aug 26; 15(17).D
- Background/Objectives: Conventional Coagulation Tests (CCTs) fail to accurately reflect Preeclampsia's (PE's) coagulation status, disease progression, and hemostatic alterations. They do not differentiate between the normal hypercoagulability of healthy pregnancies and the pathological hypercoagulability associated with PE. Rotational Thromboelastometry (ROTEM) analyzes clot dynamics from initiat…

- Bleeding is common after cardiac surgery and is associated with increased morbidity and mortality. The etiology of coagulopathy after cardiopulmonary bypass is complex, involving systemic inflammation, hemodilution, residual heparin effect, platelet activation, hypothermia, and hyperfibrinolysis. Antifibrinolytic agents such as aprotinin and lysine analogs are used to mitigate hyperfibrinolysis. …
