- Patient Preference Phenotypes for Post-operative Anticoagulation After Hip or Knee Replacement: A Cross-sectional Survey Study. [Journal Article]J Gen Intern Med. 2026 May 21. [Online ahead of print]JG
- CONCLUSIONS: In the post-knee/post-hip replacement setting, a CA survey revealed that patients value the risks and benefits of anticoagulation differently, with three distinct preference phenotypes that have potential implications for individualizing therapy.

- A detailed DFT inspection on the trapping of aspirin from drinking water using B12N12 nanocage. [Journal Article]Sci Rep. 2026 May 21. [Online ahead of print]SR
- Aspirin is used as an analgesic and antipyretic, but its release into the water bodies may also cause various diseases, such as stomach ulcers, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, and tinnitus. This study investigates the elimination of aspirin using B12N12 nanocages employing DFT simulations. Three complexes, namely, BN-Com-A, BN-Com-B, and BN-Com-C were optimized utilizing DFT-D3 correction, B3LYP the…

- Universal vs risk-based aspirin prophylaxis in pregnancy: Time for a paradigm shift? [Review]Semin Perinatol. 2026 May 22; :152251. [Online ahead of print]SP
- Low-dose aspirin is an evidence-based intervention that reduces the risk of preeclampsia and related maternal morbidity. Current U.S. guidelines recommend a risk-based approach, targeting individuals at high or moderate risk. However, implementation remains inconsistent, and risk stratification may fail to identify a substantial proportion of patients who ultimately develop preeclampsia. This pap…

- CONCLUSIONS: The efficacy of aspirin monotherapy for secondary coronary artery disease prevention is reduced in elderly patients from 65 years of age onward.

- Two pediatric Lyme neuroborreliosis patients presenting with cerebrovascular events. [Journal Article]Ticks Tick Borne Dis. 2026 May 21; 17(3):102660. [Online ahead of print]TT
- CONCLUSIONS: These cases emphasize the varied neurological presentations of LNB and the importance of including Lyme diagnostics in the evaluation of pediatric ischemic events. It is important to recognize LNB as an etiology of pediatric stroke because effective antimicrobial therapy may dramatically change outcome.

- Platelet Hyperreactivity and Risk of Ischemic Placental Disease: A Prospective Cohort Study. [Journal Article]Pregnancy (Hoboken). 2026 Mar; 2(2).P
- CONCLUSIONS: First-trimester platelet hyperreactivity was present in approximately one-third of participants and was independently associated with increased risk of IPD. Participants with platelet hyperreactivity demonstrated distinct transcriptomic signatures and greater platelet aggregation despite ASA use. Together, these findings support a contributory role for platelets in placental ischemic pathology and highlight the need to elucidate mechanisms and develop platelet-targeted preventive strategies.

- Comparison of aspirin and rivaroxaban for the prevention of pulmonary embolism and deep vein thrombosis in high thrombotic risk patients with systemic lupus erythematosus: study protocol for a multicentre, prospective, randomised controlled trial. [Journal Article]Lupus Sci Med. 2026 May 20; 13(1).LS
- Thromboembolic events are an important cause of morbidity and mortality in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Current thromboprophylaxis recommendations mainly focus on patients with antiphospholipid syndrome or persistent antiphospholipid antibody (aPL) positivity, whereas preventive strategies for aPL-negative patients with elevated thrombotic risk remain poorly defined. D-dimer elevation is c…

- Implementation of an Aspirin Utilization Program in an Early Pregnancy Access Center. [Journal Article]Am J Perinatol. 2026 May 20. [Online ahead of print]AJ
- CONCLUSIONS: A concerted and standardized effort to identify, educate, and support patients at risk for preeclampsia, is associated with higher LDA utilization in a high-risk population. Obstetric providers can consider similar approaches to reduce the "quality gap" in rates of LDA us.

- Tumor-Platelet Crosstalk in Cancer: Mechanisms, Thrombotic Risk, and Translational Opportunities. [Journal Article]Blood Adv. 2026 May 20. [Online ahead of print]BA
- Platelets are recognized as mediators of cancer progression, extending beyond hemostasis to influence tumor growth, metastatic dissemination, immune evasion, and thrombotic complications. Tumors remodel platelets through thrombocytosis and tumor cell-induced platelet aggregation, and locally through tumor-microenvironment cues that reprogram platelet function. These changes enable platelets to sh…

- Coronary artery calcium (CAC) scoring is increasingly recognised as a non-invasive tool to refine cardiovascular risk assessment, particularly in asymptomatic individuals at intermediate risk. However, its clinical use remains inconsistent, shaped by varying recommendations across international and local guidelines. This systematic review compares the major guideline documents from the Cardiac So…

- Oxidative dyslipidemia in early pregnancy: integrating atherogenic index of plasma (AIP) and uric acid (UA) to refine preeclampsia risk stratification. [Journal Article]Front Pharmacol. 2026; 17:1792375.FP
- Preeclampsia represents an unmasking of underlying vascular and metabolic vulnerability during the physiologic stress of pregnancy. Current first-trimester screening relies heavily on body mass index which incompletely captures qualitative metabolic dysfunction, particularly in non-obese women. In this narrative perspective, we examine the atherogenic index of plasma (AIP; log10[TG/HDL-C]), which…

- Changing Aetiology of Perforated Peptic Ulcers: Rising Impact of Non-Steroidal-Anti-Inflammatories in Western Australia. [Journal Article]ANZ J Surg. 2026 May 19. [Online ahead of print]AJ
- CONCLUSIONS: NSAID/Aspirin use may be surpassing H. pylori as the main cause of perforated PUD in Western Australia, mirroring global patterns. H. pylori remains important but identifying NSAID use as a modifiable risk and standardising testing, eradication, and follow-up-including endoscopy-are needed. These findings should guide clinical practice for post-operative and preventive care.
