- Comprehensive Study of Drug-Associated Severe Allergic Reactions: An Analysis of High-Risk Medications and Epidemiological Trends Based on the FAERS Database. [Journal Article]Allergy Asthma Immunol Res. 2026 Mar; 18(2):242-253.AA
- CONCLUSIONS: Antibiotics, anesthetics, monoclonal antibodies (mAbs), and antitumor drugs are the main categories of drugs associated with anaphylactic shock. Specifically, high clinical vigilance should be given to β-lactam antibiotics, intravenous anesthetics, antitumor drugs, and mAbs. Future research on DIAS should further explore its mechanisms, evaluate risk factors, and develop effective prevention strategies to enhance the safety and efficacy of drug therapy.

- Water-soluble acylhydrazone macrocycles as potent reversal agents for cisatracurium-induced neuromuscular blockade. [Journal Article]J Mater Chem B. 2026 Apr 16; 14(14):4311-4318.JM
- Cisatracurium is a widely used non-depolarizing neuromuscular blocking agent during anesthesia; however, residual neuromuscular blockade post-surgery can lead to severe respiratory complications, highlighting the urgent need for effective reversal agents. In this study, we designed and synthesized a highly water-soluble acylhydrazone macrocycle featuring an electron-rich cavity as an efficient su…

- Utility of dynamic preload indices of hypovolemia in isoflurane-anesthetized horses. [Journal Article]Vet Anaesth Analg. 2026 Feb 19; 53(3):101205. [Online ahead of print]VA
- CONCLUSIONS: SPV% followed by PPV%, but not PVI%, are useful dynamic preload indices with negative correlation to CO in anesthetized horses.

- Anaesthetic management in a neonate with a double-outlet right ventricle undergoing repair of leaking myelomeningocele. [Case Reports]BMJ Case Rep. 2026 Mar 10; 19(3).BC
- Neonates comprise a special population of patients undergoing surgery, and the presence of congenital defects further complicates their anaesthetic management. This report describes a neonate born with Arnold-Chiari malformation and a ruptured myelomeningocele, who was later found to also have a double-outlet right ventricle. This report outlines the careful selection of anaesthetic agents and pe…

- Allergy to muscle relaxants: diagnosis and significance of drug concentrations. [Journal Article]Drug Metab Pers Ther. 2026 Mar 01; 41(1):39-50.DM
- CONCLUSIONS: Allergic reactions to muscle relaxants are strongly influenced by drug concentration, genetic susceptibility, and metabolic responses. Combined pharmacokinetic, immunological, and genetic assessment may significantly enhance preoperative risk stratification and support personalised anaesthetic management to improve patient safety.

- Continuous Infusion Versus Intermittent Boluses of Cisatracurium in the Early Management of Pediatric Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome: A Multicenter, Randomized Controlled Trial. [Randomized Controlled Trial]Arch Bronconeumol. 2026 May; 62(5):317-324.AB
- CONCLUSIONS: In PARDS, cisatracurium infusion was associated with better oxygenation, earlier extubation from MV and shorter PICU stay compared to intermittent boluses, with benefits limited to moderate-to-severe disease. Outcomes were similar in mild PARDS.

- Anesthesia Practices for Preterm Infants: A Survey in the Nordic Countries and Review of the Literature. [Review]
- CONCLUSIONS: The substantial heterogeneity in anesthesia practice highlighted the need for high-quality research leading to evidence-based protocols and broader consensus to improve safety and quality of care for this vulnerable population. This survey reports on the breadth of practice details for anesthesia management when preterm infants require surgery, from centers in the 5 Nordic countries.

- Comparison of two atracurium dosing regimens in dogs undergoing ophthalmic surgery. [Journal Article]Vet Anaesth Analg. 2026 Mar-Apr; 53(2):101188.VA
- CONCLUSIONS: Atracurium VRI was associated with lower dose rate, more stable neuromuscular blockade depth, faster recovery, and shorter extubation times than BOL injection. These findings support the potential clinical advantages of VRI in canine ophthalmic anaesthesia.

- Effect of Priming with Atracurium or Pancuronium on the Onset Time of Pancuronium in Patients Undergoing General Anesthesia for Elective Surgery: A Randomised Controlled Trial. [Randomized Controlled Trial]Niger Postgrad Med J. 2026 Jan 01; 33(1):52-57.NP
- CONCLUSIONS: In adults, priming with atracurium but not pancuronium shortens the onset time of pancuronium. However, during RSI, where a fast onset is crucial, the shortened onset time with priming is not clinically relevant.

- Bilateral parotitis: a rare postoperative complication of general anaesthesia. [Case Reports]BMJ Case Rep. 2025 Dec 31; 18(12).BC
- Postsurgical parotitis is a rare postoperative complication characterised by acute, transient unilateral or bilateral swelling of the salivary glands of unclear origin. This case report aims to analyse the management and causes of postsurgical parotitis.A female patient in her mid-40s was admitted for an elective laparotomy and myomectomy due to a symptomatic uterine myoma measuring 3×4 cm, assoc…

- Use of Neuromuscular Blocking Agents in Elderly Patients: A Narrative Review in Geriatric Medicine. [Review]
- With the growing number of elderly patients undergoing surgical procedures, the use of neuromuscular blocking agents (NMBAs) in geriatric anesthesia has become increasingly relevant. Aging is associated with physiological and pathological changes that affect drug pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics, including reduced renal and hepatic function, altered body composition, and decreased plasma pro…

- In silico assessment of neuromuscular blocking agents and fluoroquinolones as ligands of the Mas-related G protein-coupled receptor X2. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: In contrast to fluoroquinolones, NMBAs displayed different affinity for MRGPRX2. Cellular responses in bench experiments closely reflected the MD predictions. Alanine scanning revealed that the MRGPRX2 binding pocket exhibits low susceptibility to single-site mutations that enhance receptor responsiveness.

- Peri-operative hypersensitivity reactions to neuromuscular blocking drugs in New Zealand 2013-2019: a retrospective observational study. [Journal Article]Anaesthesia. 2026 Apr; 81(4):513-520.A
- CONCLUSIONS: We found a significant difference between the rates of peri-operative hypersensitivity reactions with rocuronium and suxamethonium vs. atracurium. The increased risk of a peri-operative hypersensitivity reaction is a factor that should be weighed against the benefits of using suxamethonium or rocuronium. Females may be higher risk than males of reacting to neuromuscular blocking drugs.

- Accidental Intra-articular Atracurium Injection after Knee Arthroscopy: A Report of Medical Error. [Case Reports]
- We presented the case of a patient who experienced a loss of responsiveness shortly after the tourniquet was deflated following knee arthroscopy. Incorrect intra-articular drug administration was suspected, and upon investigation, a used ampule of atracurium, instead of tranexamic acid, was found in the safety box. The patient was promptly treated with neostigmine and received supportive respirat…
