Mental Health Disorders in Pregnancy
Mental health disorders are common during pregnancy, with perinatal depression effecting 10% to 15% of women during pregnancy and the postpartum period.[1] Mental health disorders during pregnancy are associated with poor prenatal care, substance abuse, poor obstetric and neonatal outcomes, and higher rate of postpartum psychiatric illness. Collaborative care models implemented in pregnancy improve long-term outcomes.[2] OB/GYN hospitalists are often in the position to diagnose and initiate treatment plans for pregnant women affected by mental health disorders and diseases of addiction.[3]
