RA is a systemic disease of unknown etiology that is characterized by a symmetric inflammatory polyarthritis, extra-articular manifestations (rheumatoid nodules, pulmonary fibrosis, serositis, scleritis, vasculitis), and serum rheumatoid factor (RF) in up to 80% of patients.
