Our Executive Team
Bill Detmer, MD, MSc
Chief Executive Officer
Bill entered medical school at UC-San Francisco the year the first Macintosh computer was launched and soon was using it to organize the reams of basic science and clinical knowledge he needed to learn. That led to a career-long pursuit to solve the "knowledge problem” in healthcare – despite the wide availability of high-quality medical information and advanced technologies for delivery, two-thirds of questions that arise in daily clinical practice are never answered.
Bill’s pursuit of knowledge solutions has traversed becoming a general internist and faculty member at UCSF, completing training at Stanford in the nascent field of medical informatics, developing the first web-based search interface to the world’s medical literature and commercializing it with Ovid Technologies, and starting Unbound Medicine 22 years ago.
Philip H. Peterson
“Philosophy is the leading edge of every science; sometimes science just takes a few years to catch up. It’s exciting to be a part of that process every day.”
Philip H. Peterson, chief technology officer, has been with Unbound Medicine since its inception and worked with Dr. Detmer at Ovid Technologies. Phil leads the direction of Unbound’s platform development and product offerings. A lifelong student of philosophy — with a special interest in artificial intelligence — Phil is passionate about emerging technologies. At work and at home, Phil enjoys puns, coffee, and black t-shirts.
"It is extremely satisfying to work with so many smart and driven people, all towards a common goal: to make the world a better place."
Karen Zimet, our chief financial officer, heads the finance and human resources departments from the Charlottesville office. She began her career as an auditor at Ernst & Young in Boston and went on to lead the accounting teams at Prince Michel Vineyards and Investure before joining Unbound Medicine in 2011. A Certified Public Accountant, Karen graduated from the McIntire School of Commerce at the University of Virginia. She also loves to sing, compete in triathlons, and travel the world with her family.
"Is it really work if you love what you do and the people you work with? It’s great to know that our products are being used to teach and support those who treat others."
Christopher Garriga heads the project management, quality assurance, documentation, and technical support teams as vice president of development. Also an Ovid grad, Chris has led many successful product launches in his 15 years at Unbound Medicine. A Brooklyn, NY native, Chris can often be found enjoying the outdoors, an egg cream, some Junior’s Cheesecake, and the NY Mets. And since he’s been in Philly for almost 20 years, he’ll also take one Jim’s Cheesesteak (Wiz with) and a soft pretzel.
Paul M. Stadter
“Knowledge can help improve people’s lives through better health as well as improve people’s lives by providing them with skills. I am excited to come to work every day to try to change the world for the better.”
Paul M. Stadter, vice president of sales, leads Unbound’s institutional sales team. Another Ovid alum, Paul spent 11 years building and managing sales and marketing teams before joining Unbound. In addition to closing the deal, Paul speaks French and Italian, enjoys the outdoors, the indoors, music, cooking, and golf.
"I am truly motivated by our users and the stories they share about their Unbound experiences. We make a difference in how they perform in school and on the job."
Brian is our vice president of marketing. With over 25 years of industry experience, including time with Progressive Business Publications and Wolters Kluwer, Brian is still excited about telling people what we do.
